Game Day Round 1 - Freo v WCE - 23/3 @ PS

I Just don't see us winning this match. I think Nic Nat is our most important player (Lycett's currently not to AFL standard) and no Kerr, however on the positive side if we do considering our outs it will really set up the start to the season.

1. Double team Pavlich. It was indeed a horrible reaming he gave Mackenzie last time who struggles with the more mobile big forwards. Other than Pavnose I can't see another big forward that will trouble us. Kepler Bradley? harhar.
Stopping Mayne is important too. But apart from Mayne and Pavlich, they have 0 aerial ability in their forward line, and they rely on Walters to crumb cheapies (presuming Ballantyne will be in the middle).

I would very much like someone to run through Fyfe and test his dicky shoulder out. Seems to have scares with it in every second match. Just destroy that shit

Ballantyne will not play in the middle. He does travel quite a way up the ground but he tends to rotate with Walters; one stays deep and the other moves up the ground. But, neither will play midfield as such.

Yeah and maybe someone for freo should test out LeCras knee... Squeezer
It will happen, and has happened in matches between the two clubs in the past. I'm sure if we look back over the threads there will be a similar comment made by a Freo supporter about Judd's shoulders back in the early 00s, no?

It's a lot harder to 'test out someone's knee', though. What will they do, jump into his legs? That's a reportable offense now, isn't it? A solid fair hip and shoulder, last time i checked, is not illegal (yet), and so I would expect our players to not give him a concession for playing whilst susceptible to injury. Squeezer.

Yeh true. Well with those four you have a pretty potent forward line, but shutting down Pav and Mayne remains super important to us.

It would appear from this post that you are of the opinion that the best way to win this game is by playing the man.

Well if west coast supporters think that the best way to beat freo is to intentionally injure players...well, says a lot about your confidence doesn't it.

No, John, he didn't say or imply such. "Test his dicky shoulder out" doesn't equate to "you are of the opinion that the best way to win this game is by playing the man". If Fyfe has a questionable shoulder and he takes to the field, he's fair game, for bumping his shoulder is within the rules.

Just go in hard for the ball. If Fyfe's shoulder isn't up to it we will find out. If it's that bad then he shouldn't be playing in the middle anyway.

We should aim to shut down Pav and try and break even in the midfield with what we have on the day. If we do that then I think we can win.

As I have stated previously I am bracing myself for a 45 point loss.
Great write up by the topic starter.
Gees our midfield looks vulnerable this time around.

I am also looking forwrd to the after match posts on this Eagles forum.
Should be colouful.

What happens if we start the season 0-4.

Mate, fyfe's shoulder is wedged in f*%king hard, it'll need a tractor to destroy his shoulder.

FFS, the shoulder surgeon cut a piece of bone from some where shaped like a door stop, and wedged the f*%ker in there.Granite.

PS: I see fyfe is listed (Player) as the 2013 brownlow favorite.

Not sure if you saw Walters huge mark on the back page of The West from the Bulldogs game? Is as least as aerial as Mayne.

A lot of players take a huge grab at some point in their career. Its about doing it consistently. Kerr took that screamer against Collingwood about a decade ago yet I wouldn't want him being the target in our forward line.

De boer who will probably go defensive on hurn, for his height (188cm) is extremely strong mark overhead.
There will be a resting ruck up forward,Clarke can clunk'em,just has to do it consistently.
So mix both of those in with Pav and mayne and there is aerial ability up front.

Any how we don't want to be bombing it in and give the eagles back six a chance to team spoil.
Precision passing into the forward 50 is the go don't you think?

reckon our team will be close to this. Lol'ed when I saw LeCras next to Spurr! I think given half a chance Lecca will have a blinder simply because he is out there again after 12 long months, so you are right to be worried IMO.

Pav and Walters are the only two in your forward line that worry me. Hopefully Pav is still short of a run and doesn't beat us off his own boot.

There are still a lot of plodders and spuds when I look at your team( no offence :p ) Unfortunately, Lyon seems to be able to turn theses players into footballers in a Sydneyesque fashion. If we were full strength, could not see us losing. Unfortunately we will just have to hope the players available can get it done.

It's interesting, i have the same feeling looking at your list. It always surprises me when Butler, Shepherd, A.Selwood get picked ahead of Brennan. The first 3 i'd classify as plodders but from what i've seen, Brennan is better yet doesn't get picked. I'd list Hams, Smith, Butler, Shepherd, McGinnity, A.Selwood as your plodders who get plenty of games. Even Embley is heading towards plodder status, but i guess thats more just slowing down with age.

I'm sure you look at Suban, Mzungu, Clarke, Ibbotson, Spurr and think the same thing.

If either team had no plodders we'd be the premiers, in reality even the premiers have plodders who are made to look like champions, but thats another discussion.
