If we're not allowing gold passes, then I hope that criteria gets applied to Sloane, Tex and Lynch, who have collectively done two fifths of fu** all since 2017.
Tom Lynch's only down year was 2020 when he had several injury interruptions, his form in 18 and 19 was around his career best averages.

I reckon too many are writing off Keays too quickly. I don't believe he'll ever be elite but he certainly still has room to develop into more than a fringe player. He and Laird were easily the best mids in the internal trial from my view. Last year was the first season he's been given significant mid minutes with any consistency and he played best when he did. he may not be particularly tall but at 89kg he has a fair bit on Sloane, Laird, and Crouch. His time at Brisbane also proved he can be useful up forward. And he's only just turned 24.

Spot on, think people are just excited by the shiny new toys and probably a bit biased in thinking that because the Crows are on a good path now, why would a discard be in the team. Perhaps in 2,3,4 years the Hatelys, Pedlars move right past him but you’d think a guy who came 5th in the b&f last year has a bit of breathing room as a starting mid for now no?

In 2019 Sloane was 2nd in the B&F, 1st on votes per game

In 2018 3rd on votes per game

Injury is the risk. If he’s genuinely injury free again he will be in our top 3 as usual.

I agree, I think Jones and McHenry have been badly coached, never seem sure of what to do and over thinking it. I also think Gooch and Poholke suffered this as well and it cost them an AFL career. Hopefully having the new coaching line up can save Jones and Neddy and the damage isn't too deep.

agree, but if rumours are to be believed Gooch & Poholke had other problems

Depends on definition, but he didn't finish last year as a starting mid.

Listening to King on Whately from yesterday saying how many more ball and quicker ball will come into the forward line has me worried about us keeping the score down against Geelong.

Pokies are a plague, and I'm very happy we don't have a club that profits from targeting the weak and preying on addiction.

What we need is a bar.
Government should never have allowed pokies in the pubs. I don't want them anywhere but if they are going to have them they should be in the casino.

The tall forward question is one of the hardest. Senior players Walker and Lynch... plus need a relief ruckman so Himmelberg (or Frampton I guess).

Which leaves no room for Fogarty or Thilthorpe unless we go with the ultra tall structure that has been so spectacularly bad in the past. Would we be prepared to leave Walker and/or Lynch out? Could Thilthorpe leapfrog both of Himmelberg and Frampton to do the relief ruck work?

There's two poor options for us to choose from. Let's hope we go with neither of these:
- four talls
- three talls but leave out both kids

What's Rahilly got in store for us?

The club is saying Lynch should be right for R1 but I'm not convinced. He's had an interuppted off-seawon and played a very small part last weekend. I don't think he trained today either.

I don't reckon they'll play RT as the 2nd this early on in his career either, so he either misses or plays as a forward only.

Personally I'd go with Walker, Berg and Fogarty for R1, however if Frampton actually shows something against opposition in the next 2 weeks and Berg doesn't, then that could switch. Thilthorpe will likely be eased into the year BUT we do like to throw our first pick out early on in the season.

As long as we have 3 small "pressure" types and the balance is right. McAdam, Murphy (I know I know) and a resting mid (Sloane/Scho).

Here is my 26

F McAdam Thilthorpe Rowe
HF Keays Walker Pedlar
C Milera Sloane Sholl
HB Smith Worrell McPherson
B Brown Butts Doedee
1R O'Brien Crouch Laird
INT Jones Schoenberg Hamill Lynch
EMERG Hately Himmelberg Fogarty (plus one)

'Big' calls
- Thilthorpe over Himmelberg
- Fogarty vs Lynch... I hope they go Fog but suspect we'll start with experience
- Pedlar gets a gig straight up. Caution to the wind!
- No Hately. Rough on the kid and he could probably come in for one of Pedlar/Schoenberg/Jones admittedly but I like the other three

Observations
We're too small/inexperienced down back. However... that's what we've got. Will need to cope with that until Talia is back.
Would prefer one more 'genuine' forward rather than a mid playing half froward but no Stengle, Davis maybe a stretch pick, Fog makes us too tall... no other options. Very inexperienced up forward too - Walker, Lynch and...? But again, that's what we've got.

Not selected
McAsey
Murphy
Kelly
Seedsman
Talia (injured)
Mackay
Cook
Hinge
Berry
Frampton
McHenry
Borlase
O'Connor
Davis
Newchurch
Gollant
Strachan

I don't think we'll ever see Worrell in a KPD post, has to be McAsey for mine. Mind you I'd try to find a spot for the former if we could.

Can't see Hately missing either but if it's for Pedlar I'd be happy enough.

I reckon McHenry will get a gig too but I just don't know where we're gonna squeeze him in. So many kids to play, only 22 spots in the side.

Lynch is supposedly playing more of a wing role this season

How do we fit all of Lynch, Seedsman, Mackay and Milera onto the wings let alone young players?

Seedsman and Mackay shouldn't be anywhere near the side, barring another hamstring injury epidemic.

Seed really should have sought a trade last year. He'd be useful in a side needing some run and carry like Melbourne or Carlton, but serves no use in a rebuilding side.

Sholl as the attacking wingman and Sloane/Keays/McHenry/Milera rotating on the other wing would be my choice.

I'm already on record as saying it will only be forced changes from our final game last season (plus Milera).
Well "forced" isn't quite right.

Players have left/been suspended, but no one forced them out. It's called list turnover.
