Wood, Jolly and Fraser in the same side? Bad idea I reckon. Put Dick in, one of Fraser or Wood out. Otherwise, looks solid.

Really Rate Buckley, if he can have a good pre season and get his body right will be a fantastic addition to our backline. 190cm 90kg and great turn of speed. With Buckley and O'Brien running out of defence, our capacity for quick turnovers and being able to move the ball inside 50 faster to catch defenders off guard has increased.

Our Midfield is now in the almost regarded as elite. A department we haven't had depth in for a long time.

Pendlebury, Swan, Ball with Didak, Davis and Beams/Sidebottom rotating through the middle, we should be able to match it with geelong and st kilda.

Jack Anthony is hopefully going to put on 5kg of muscle to contend with scarlett and lake. Should only see improvement with him and expect 60 goals from him next season.

Trav Cloke should be set for a big season, needs to improve his aerobic capacity even more so and needs the Riewoldt second efforts, the lead and then run back with the flight of the ball. Big Year for Trav.

Jolly, enough said. Will give first use to Swan, Pendlebury and Ball. Fantastic pick up.

With Reid, Dawes, Blight coming through we are looking at a bright future.

Side by Side 2010

Oh my God. Crack a fat.

Wouldn't change much here. On preference, not reality, I'd have Dick in for Fraser.

It's very tough: I reckon Buckley is close because we need more pace off half back. But our best 22 is:

B: Shaw, Presti, O'Brien
HB: Maxwell, N. Brown, Toovey
C: Thomas, Swan, Didak
HF: Davis, Cloke, Lockyer
F: Dick, Anthony, Medhurst

R: Jolly, Ball, Pendlebury

I: Fraser, O'Bree, Sidebottom, Ben Johnson

E: Buckley, Reid, Beams

Johnson makes it in purely as a tagger. But he is interchangeable.

The backline will be fine. Our back six was so settled for most of last year, and that was without Brown and Reid playing much, Goldsack played around half the year from memory, and now someone like Buckley who can join that group, that backline is a strength of ours.

The midfield and ruck look as good as they have for years. I thought our biggest weakness this year was winning taps, then winning clearances. Jolly and Ball respectively can arrest that somewhat, and Beams and Sidebottom will be a year better as well. And don't forget McCarthy either.

The forward line needs to be worked on. We've got some good moving parts down there, but its not as efficient as it can be. The sum of the parts last year was less than what the parts were actually putting out. I'm backing Bucks to get that right, besides, its not like we're dereft of talent to chose from.

Overall, it looks like we've improved, and I think we're not far away from, with a bit of luck, putting together a reasonable tilt at it. I think Mick's very well placed to snag a flag before handing the reigns over.

And most importantly, there's depth. I did a rough count of 34 players that I felt could play seniors round 1 and I'd be happy they're playing. That's fantastic.
