Review Round 1 vs Fremantle

I think the Wingard malaise is simply because we saw Wingodmode so many times early in his career setting unreasonably high expectations. We haven't seen a true Wingod performance in a long time but I guess we aren't relying on him to win matches for us anymore.
Could of been 23 and 4, he gave off one to Marshall and missed a sitter by his standards 45 out. Very very harsh critics on Wingards performance.

Early days of course but any comparison between Bonner and Pittard at the same stage of their careers is literally chalk and cheese, the younger player has a natural ability to be at the fall of the ball more often than not, and use it to advantage, plus there is none of the heart in mouth stuff when he is coming out of defence, or cutting through the lines, even when in heavy traffic.

As much as this may upset some, the Pitdawg has regularly given up goals even after 50 plus games, often from silly errors where he has hung onto the ball for too long or changed his mind midstream and got himself caught with the ball.

At the end of this season he could become one of the `potentially ' expendable players who would get us a very good draft pick, but there is obviously a lot of water to flow under the bridge before any decision is required either way. ;)

He could also reinvent himself as a hard running wingman, and I believe there are a number of Port supporters who would rather see him in that role than as a defender.

Flame away!

I tend to agree. In fact, I'm seeing a lot of parallels between Pittard's situation and the situation Trengove found himself in 12 months ago. Between the kicking and rebound offered by Hartlett, Pittard, DBJ and Bonner, where exactly does he fit in?

I’m predicting our games to be a hellavu lot more exciting in 2018
Contrary to a lot of the reports on the game and Freo’s “poor” performance, I was genuinely excited by the way we played for all but the first 10 min of the game and the last 8 min of the first half.

We played an intense, fast offensive and defensive style. The different lines linked well together, we hunted in numbers, got extra men to contests, tackled hard, ran in waves and used the ball well.

Ryder’s injury aside, that was a very pleasing round 1 effort.

Freo will not be terrible this year, and we played a composed, mature but exciting style of footy.

I agree : this year should see exciting football from Port.

People saying Boak was workmanlike is severely understating his performance imo. He was elite. His contested work was absolutely exceptional.

Marshall got a big wrap from Zaharakis on Game Day.

But the highlight was when Z brought up Dom Barry's roundabout AFL journey and went all KG about his time in the SANFL playing for "Ganelg."

Ganelg.

Did lol

The second l has gone the way of their roof.

He was good yesterday, but he was even better round 1 last year. Wait and see how the rest of his season pans out.

He was clearly injured last year after seeing yesterday's performance. Back to his explosive best around the contest. He ran hard all day and had pace.

I was really impressed with our positioning and support running. Our players always had options to kick or handball to. Contrast that to previous years, when you would see chains of running play break down because there was nobody to receive a handball, or players who took a mark having to spend ages looking for an option up field before having to just bomb the ball.

Did the L go the same way as the roof?

Riley Bonner is in the box seat to be R1 Rising Star

R1 Rising Star two years in a row would be awesome

cRowie and Kane on Footy S.A. just said he's too old to be nominated.

Bonner's D.O.B. is 7th March 1997, so he only turned 21 two weeks ago, plus he's only played five games prior to this year, so I believe he's elligible.

Had a great view of the game yesterday. i asked this glorified water boy campaigner to move, just 5 metres over so he was inline with an aisle and not blocking anyones view.. he refused...
Think i saw one ruck contest as he was always running back standing in front.. good thing i got there early to make sure i got a front row seat..

He heard the c word several times yesterday...

AFL website listed him as eligible earlier in the year as well.
