We have found a player in Jed Anderson, reminds a little of Joel Selwood with his attck on the ball. Clarko loves him aswell. Hill & Simpkin will both play round 1 id say also & Span is gonna provide good KP depth.

Clarko has all but confirmed it's an ACL. :(

Expect it opens up a spot for another mid.

FB: Gibbo - Lake - Guerra
HB: Stratts - Schoey - Birchall
Ce: Smith - Mitchell - Lewis
HF: Rioli - Franklin - Breust
FF: Burgers - Roughie - Gunston

Ru: Hale
RR: Shiels
Ro: Sewell

I/C: Simpkin, Savage, Hill and Pops

Emerg: Bailey, Cheney, Duryea.

That's how I see us lining up as well. It's still a very good line up even with a few key players out. I would rather Hill on the wing then Lewis just to inject us with some speed on the wing. I liked Lewis as that half forward/midfielder last year. I reckon he will play the same role again this year.

That's pretty much my thinking too, except for Shiels who has not played at all in NAB games so I do wonder about his match fitness.

Assuming that Hodge, Suckling, Whitecross, Osborne will be unavailable, I would bring in Ellis.

Has Spangher gone past Schoenmakers? He looked far better than Schoey today.

Are you kidding me!?!
Schoenmakers could hold his opponent to 0 possessions, and you'd still claim he was out of his depth!
He had 1 notable error, however, all defenders do

It's time people got off the schoey bagging

B: Guerra, Lake, Stratton
HB: Birchall, Gibson, Hodge
C: Hill, Burgoyne, Smith
HF: Lewis, Franklin, Breust
F: Gunston, Roughead, Rioli
Foll: Bailey, Sewell, Mitchell
Int: Shiels, Simpkin, Schoey or Spangher
Sub: Anderson
Emerg: Savage, Puopolo, Hale

This is probably how i see our best 22. Hodge probably isn't ready so he can be replaced by one of the Emergencies, and Whitecross comes in when he is right.

This is why i asked about Schoey & Spangher. I think we need one of them in the 22 for balance but i think Spangher's looked good, so it's a close race for that spot.

Spangher was one of our worst when he was playing in defence, and unless we're planning on playing Buddy, Rough/Hale, Gunston and Spangher up forward, then he doesn't beat Schoey for a spot for mine. Spangher's disposal isn't good enough to play down back, imo.

Schoey any day of the week over Spangher.

B: Gibbo Lake Guerra
CB: Hodge Schoey Birchall
C: Hill Burgers Smith
HF: Breust Buddy Lewis
F: Gunston Rough Rioli
R: Hale Mitchell Sewell
Int: Shiels Simpkin Stratton
Sub: Puopolo

Emg: Duryea Spangher Bailey

Hey guys,

Sorry to intrude. I've had a read through a couple of pages curious about the team you may put out against us in a couple of weeks.

You'll definitely be missing Whitecross and Suckling (terrible news about his injury today)... What's the status of Hodge, Rioli and Puopolo? Are you expecting all three to play?

We've got a short injury list at the moment but will be without Kelly and Johnson (suspended) which opens the door for Caddy and Horlin-Smith. We're also going to get smashed in the ruck - McIntosh is ruled out, West hasn't played NAB Cup and is in doubt, likewise Vardy. Looks like we'll be giving a debut to Mark Blicavs as our number one ruck - bit of a baptism of fire against you guys and in front of 80,000 people...

Puopolo played today, and barring any new setback will be available. Rioli should be available, and will hopefully play in our practice match next week. Hodge i don't think anyone is sure of. Clarko said he will be playing round 1, but that might be in the VFL, so watch this space.

It's funny how we all barrack for the same team and watch the same games, yet we all have a few differences in our line-ups.

Your team looks good. The surprise for me is probably Stratton riding the pine as i consider him one of our best defenders.

The Hale V Bailey one is interesting also. I hope Bailey has a massive year.
Haha, yeah I know :)

About Stratton, I consider him a walk up start yet I consider those players that are in my backline just as important as him and to have a good balance on the staring team I jsut put Starrts on the bench. But yeah, I believe Stratts is a fantastic player and vital to us.

Yeah, I was more leaning towards Bailey for round 1 yet he showed nothing today, absolutely nothing. Plus, as Geelong has no ruck I don't think we need a specialist ruck man like Bailey when Hale can hold his own out there plus add that extra target up forward that Bailey can't. Who the Hawks choose as our number 1 ruck will be really interesting, because I can't see Bails and Hale being in the same team. Rough is an automatic. Add Gunner and Buddy and we are way to tall.

Yeah, we can't go too tall because when you combine those talls with Sewell, Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne etc then it makes us too slow. I thought round 1 against a no-name ruckman would be a good way to get Bailey off to a confident start and build some momentum. Bailey appears to have a good footy brain but lacks mobility. You are right though, Hale & Bailey can't play together.

Good to see Burgoyne has still got it. He is still one of the most dangerous clearance midfielders in the competition, and it's good to see when the game is there to be won, he gets put in the middle, and usually has a massive impact.

Absolute class wherever he plays. I'd love to know our clearance rate when he starts in the square

Personally I was very pleased that he got up to play against the Tigers. I was a bit worried for a while that his recovery may be slow and he would go into HA season without any match practice. I reckon Burgers is one of the most important players and crucial to our chances this year. He can go forward and kick some goals, can play in the middle and win clearances and set up goals, and can play in defence and match up on different types of players as well as set up play.

Absolutely, if he was a few inches taller I'm sure he would have been a class ruck option too

I love these type of threads at this time of year. We all see the promise in every player on our list. My try is as follows:
Guerra Lake Gibson
Stratton Shoey Birchall
Burgoyne Mitchell Smith
Cyril Buddy Lewis
Gunston Roughead Breust
Bailey Hodge Sewell
I: Hale Shiels Ellis
S. Anderson (Could equally be Hill, Poppy, Simpkin, Savage)
Injured: Suckling, Whitecross, Osbourne

The major differences from mine to the average is my blind faith that Hodgey will be able to return as a midfielder and that I feel we can play Hale and Bailey in the same team. (Leaving Rough as a forward who can pinch hit in defence)

What are peoples thoughts on the ruck position. Surely both Bailey and Hale if fit are too talented for Box Hill?

Let's face it. We can match Geelong in the middle and have them covered up forward.

A well grilled defense will do wonders against them.
Move Shoey into half back. Less reliance on him will turn the game around. Even if that means we have Lake, Gibson, Rough, Goo & Stratts all down there at the same time.

Can't wait :D

After what happened to Suckers

Guerra - Lake - Stratton
Birchal - Schoe - Gibson
Hill - Mitchell - Shiels
Gunston - Roughead - Breust
Puopolo - Franklin - Lewis
Hale/Bailey - Sewell - Rioli
Burgoyne - Smith - Ellis - (Savage)

If any of Lake/Shiels/Rioli are unavailable then bring in Duryea/Simpkin/Anderson

I hope they are not over cooked. Your preference for schoey on a flank is interesting. Can you expand on why you think he is more suitable to a flank. Not being critical just asking the question.
