After a rough start to the year, West Coast seems to be back on track. The Eagles have regained star ruckman Nic Naitanui, and Beau Waters should finally be over his injury worries. The recent winning form of the Eagles is deceptive, however, as the quality of their opposition comes into question. Their only wins have been against Melbourne, the Bulldogs, Brisbane, North Melbourne, and GWS, who have a combined number of 9 wins between them for the season so far.

In contrast, Richmond has hit a rough patch in recent weeks. With significant losses against Collingwood, Geelong, and Essendon, as well as a narrow loss against Fremantle, the Tigers have been exposed on the big stage. Their inexperience showed in high-pressure situations, resulting in a slow, un-Richmond-like brand of football. With injuries to core players Dylan Grimes, Shane Tuck, Reece Conca, Brandon Ellis, and Chris Knights, the Tigers depth is being tested. So far, it has not held up. Ellis and Conca are likely to miss this coming week as well, in order to come back at 100% fitness following Richmond's round 11 bye.

The implications of this match are huge. In addition to Richmond and West Coast, there are three other sides (Carlton, North Melbourne, and Adelaide) fighting for a spot in the 8. As such, the contest on Monday looms as an "8-point game" for both clubs.

What will decide the win?

  • Experience in pressure situations
  • Ability to abuse the open spaces of Patersons Stadium
  • Centre clearances (for Richmond to have any chance, the influence of Cox and Naitanui must be nullified)
  • Players' confidence in their abilities, and their ability to back their team-mates in (a trait which Richmond has been missing for several weeks)

Will be tipping the Eagles this week, but our showing against the Dockers at Subi a few weeks back leaves me with some form of hope...

Final prediction: Crowd to be feral and the umpiring to be a biased disgrace.

Hadn't even thought about the umpires, what chance have we got?

For anyone considering INS this week....

Coburg coach, Tim Clarke, provides his exclusive summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at VFL level in last Saturday’s loss to Port Melbourne.

David Astbury
Was really good for three quarters in defence, playing on a range of opposition ‘talls’ and ‘smalls’. Used the ball better than in previous weeks.

Matt Arnot
Had a solid game offensively, generating a lot of run and carry for the team. Picked up 27 disposals and had a couple of shots for goal. Needs to do more defensively, however.

Ben Darrou
Produced another good performance in defence, on a quality opponent in Bonaddio. Had only two goals kicked on him and gathered 28 possessions. Continues to show solid improvement.

Matt Dea
Played a good game off half-back, picking up 28 touches and taking some really good chop-out marks. Was great to have his run back in the team.

Tom Derickx
Battled hard in the ruck, and competed well in contests around the round. But needs to get to more contests, to create more opportunities for the team.

Todd Elton
Had his best game in defence, playing on a dangerous opponent in Galea. Battled well right throughout the match. His defensive starting positions were much better this time.

Ben Griffiths
Spent the majority of the game in the forward line, with occasional stints down back. Created some really good contests and had two scoring opportunities, but kicked poorly.

Brad Helbig
Worked well offensively, racking up 31 disposals. Was good around stoppages and contests, but needs to provide more defensively.

Liam McBean
Was again very dangerous up forward. Presented well at marking contests, and his ground-level work also was good. Hit the scoreboard with three goals in another really impressive display.

Matt McDonough
Played a really solid game, starting forward and then moving into the midfield. Had 25 touches and used the ball extremely well. Stoppage and contested work again were features of his performance.

Kamdyn McIntosh
Started on a wing, but was moved on to a quality opponent in John Baird after half-time in a run-with role. Did a good job in negating his influence, while also learning from the experience.

Gideon Simon
Struggled up forward, but still managed to apply some pressure when the opposition had the ball.

Orren Stephenson
Showed some glimpses of his ability in the ruck, but was below his usual high standard.

Steve Verrier
Played a really good game on the opposition’s small forwards. Was tight defensively and provided good run and carry, but needs to use the ball better.

Match details
Coburg 1.0 4.2 6.4 8.9 (57)

and us back here wanting to put our fists through the box and into commentators faces when they fob off blatant frees that are called play on as yeah nahs and then a minute later tell all that the free 20ms out for the eagles was there because they slowed it down to frame by frame to see it, when no one apart from one ump did see it at full speed...;)

A dead set danger game this, WC will be walzing into this game thinking how far...bad move, its taken better sides than them to topple the tigers in 2013. Expect the tigers to rebound and win this one on the wide expanses of subiaco that has become a home away from home for RFC in recent years

wouldn't mind seeing McDonough in for robbie

Dude, i know where you are coming from but take it from me, they dont have the balls to risk it. Lets face it they didnt opt to introduce a newbie in the gimme game against the demons, so tipping introducing one in this one is 10000-1. As I suggested before, unfortunately for us and moreso Dimma, team selections have become as predictable under him as they were , dare i say it, in the last couple years of TW. Out (Nahas etc) in (Helbig, Dea)...FL will remain in tact even though it was and has been impotent. Players all over the ground and being rewarded for inconsistent performances and it basically comes down to not having the balls to drop names and bring in newbies in positions that need big time fixing.

I dont think they are going to go into this thinkng that Bo. They have dropped to many at home to entertain anything less than an on the job awareness for this one..

I was just going on the odds, given formline year to date we seem to be at long odds...last i saw, we both won 5 games...who is WC biggest scalp so far?
We've not taken any scalps.. just sat in the book depository and fired a silenced rifle; we actually turned the rifle on ourselves when we played Pooooort. Odds will come in I think.

Looking forward to the selection table ...although id love to see mcbean, i reckon Astbury is more likely...looks to be regaining touch and has some versatility to go forward or back. Edwards would have to be a chance also and may be a spark. Really hope we see arnot sooner rather than later , has the size to get in the thick of it. Dea is coming off a good game racking them up in the vfl, he could go back releasing Morris for a spell in midfield...although a job on Lecras beckons

agree! McDonough would have a real crack though and would offer more then Robbie, reckon he will be a real player, saw his state game when he kicked 6 or so last year and he was awesome

Out: Nahas, McGuane

In: McDonough, Helbig

need more guys running through the middle. helbig needs to play in the guts. mcdonough doesn't need many possessions to be kicking goals, is bigger than nahas too and much better contested and stoppage player. lonergan stays in for mine.

vickery needs to spend more time rucking as ivvy looks buggered. big O would have to be an option but unsure who would make way with structure becoming and issue. I think we'll gamble with white.

Out: Nahas, White, Lonergan
IN: McDonough, Astbury, Conca

I've been less harsh on robbie then most this year but really enough is enough, has been horrible, mentioned above why i'd like to see mcdonough, he goes into the sub position think he can have a good impact coming on in the second half.

McDo going to sub coupled with the fact hes probably about the 22nd best player means matty white goes, which is a shame because I think hes actually been alright. Astbury comes in to cover the Eagles gigantic forward line. Concs straight swap for lonergan, if he doesn't get up then lonergan stays, Helbig and co didnt do enough in my opinion.

Honestly McDo probably won't play, and wouldn't be surprised to see Dea007 play.

if we RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN then we can make a game of it, no more silly chipping around rubbish, we will get cut to pieces again

go tiges

Nah it's on Foxtel, they actually give the umpires a good grilling :thumbsu:

Danger game?
Danger of getting fisted....
Sorry boys, but we gonna get reamed!
West Coast at home.... hitting some form with confidence building....
Thank God it's on a Monday night away from the prime time spotlight.

Boy what a negative post! :(

Sometimes I think it's logical what Dimma says, but sometimes i just think he's making these stupid excuses and doesn't want to admit that we're deadset crap, and he doesn't want to admit that he doesn't have a plan B. He says that people need to earn their games. What does he think Nahas provides that maybe someone like McDonough can't? We know what we're going to get with Nahas, we're going to get a bad performance. He wasn't exactly ripping it up in the VFL consistently.

Danger game. I'll be livid if our blokes don't take the tiges seriously.. We've been terrible at Subi this year.. come to think of it, pretty ordinary all round.
Yer real danger game. Please bring lube and be gentle. I've already rung our club to bring a big bottle. Can you ring yours to make sure you have some on standby?
