i wouldn’t play Pearce unless we need him

Eg he plays every 2-3 weeks when we need his height for a matchup on king or Tom lynch - alternate weeks we can use hamling/Logue/Cox

A young full back should be on our draft agenda too.

There is a good 196cm ex Swan Districts/ex Guildford Grammar one at GWS who may be interested if Lobb still wants to go back there. Also would have played with Logue at school.

Probably not a bad loss to have at this time of year. Nobody wins a flag in May.
IMO this loss is all on the forwards. The backs did an OK job and the mids got plenty of the ball leading to nearly doubling the I50 of GC. Not one of our forwards was a danger to the opposition. Lobb and Treacy at times contesting the same mark. Schultz had a very off day. But 2 marks and 9 touches between Lobb/Treacy was the biggest issue. Lobb averages about a goal a game, he's bettered that over the past few weeks so statistically he's going to have games like this. His challenge is to not make it two weeks in a row.

Can anyone justify Luke Ryan staying in the team?

Walker Pearce Logue
Young Cox Clark

Int: Chapman
I'm on board with all 8 of those listed being defenders, not wing or midfield options.

Also agree that Walker and Clark probably need to be part of the 22, given they offer genuine leg speed.

If Mabior Chol can kick four against us then I suppose this week we need to be on Darcy Cameron alert.

Find a way to get Walker, Sturt and Amiss back into the side.

Banfield doesn't offer much because he plays all over the ground. Commit to him being a forward or give Sturt a run.
We cant play 2 talls upfront either when Lobb is the deep forward and Treacy still new to the AFL is the sole leading forward, when he leaves the 50m arc they will just flood Lobb. We play best with 3 key talls.

Walker just because our team benefits control and speed. He is improving with every game and you would love to have leg speed off both halfbacks.

Throwing everything at Melbourne will lower our chances of beating Brisbane and it’s more important to beat Brisbane if we want to finish top 2.

Don't think we are good enough for Top 2 personally, I'd settle for Top 4.
Got no chance of beating Melbourne at the G, lbh
If we cannot be competitive against GC at their home, then we aren't Top 2

If we could be a top two side by losing to St Kilda at our home ground then losing away in the wet to GC at theirs isn't changing anything to me.

We need 16/17 wins for a top two finish. I think we only need to finish top four to think ourselves a flag chance this season, which is more in the 14 to 16 wins.

Collingwood, Hawthorn, Port, Dogs, Eagles, Giants - We should beat these sides. (takes us to 13 wins/ let's put down two losses) - 11 wins
Melbourne, Melbourne, Brisbane, Carlton, St Kilda, Sydney, Richmond (I think we can win three of these at home) - 14 wins

In
Walters (hopefully was only close contact)
Swita - we missed his hard edge
Taberner - Hopefully over the inj.
Walker - Need his speed

Out
Banfield - Was not good on the weekend
Tracey - stays if Tabs is still out.
Tucker - Sub (Stays if Walters not ready)
Pearce - let him recover needs a week off. We don't need all the tall backs this week.

If Fyfe is ready bring him in for Erasmus

We didn't adapt to the conditions on the weekend. In many ways we needed bigger bodies and it was a terrible week to have Switta and Walters out.

Erasmus should stay. Was our only dangerous looking small/medium forward on a day when pure outside runners should have been left at home. Prefer him and switta in than Banfield and Colyer.

I'm glad you're not taking the criticisms you've received (and no doubt reserved for the likes of myself and others..) to heart - it feels like there's an ugly tussle, tug-of-war, internal struggle sometimes within the Freo fans' domains - the 'positive brigade' vs. 'the pessimistic brigade'. Personally, I get where both camps are coming from and I try to remain somewhere neutral to veering towards positive. It's frustrating to see people revert to an almost sneering cynicism when we lose, an almost default "we told you so" and anyone that bucks that seems to have to be put in their box. Of course not everyone does this - but it seems to be a prevailing mindset, which is sad - I know we haven't won dicksquit in our 27 years of existence but you can't seriously argue we're not on the right trajectory - with players so young and with monumental amounts of growth still to come for them...there's talent to burn on every line and we haven't even got close to what we could become yet, we still have 7 from 9 wins for this season and have played some blinding footy at times, notched up some impressive wins (Geelong, Carlton..) and defeated those we are clearly going past as we continue that growth (GWS, West Coast etc).

We're well and truly in the hunt for our maiden Premiership despite this loss, it ain't over til it's over and even if it's not this year, I'm convinced it's coming wayyyy sooner than not, we have serious talent on the list and a game style/plan that stacks up (except in wet weather!!). It isn't all doom & gloom, and yet it's not perfect as we saw evinced today by that scattershot performance. So we lost, let's see how we respond.....if we get to our bye with only one other loss, I'd argue we're tracking REALLY well.....let's see :)

Dicksquit lol.

I'm with estibador on this one. Was your typical classic old school shitful performance we seem to put in more often than we should. The past 6 weeks tells us more about our team than the past 4 quarters.

In: Walters, Switta
Out: Banfield, Tucker

And I want Walker back in the 22 rather than sub. I'm sure there'll be at least one injury to allow that to happen.

Walker had a poor two before his medisub dropping. Very fumbly and deserved to be dropped accordingly, most on here were calling for it before it happened, now he's our saviour 🤷‍♂️ I don't get you lot.

Also enough with the Logue bashing it's pathetic and uncalled for

Sorry but if people are going to have a go at Logue you need to do your homework. Of the 4 goals Chol
kicked the first one Logue was actually in front of him and attacked the ball only to see it be knocked back by Acres for Chol (who had sagged off) to get an easy one. The second one Logue was right in Chol but had to try and help spoil Ainsworth before Chol took a lucky crumb. The 3rd goal Logue was not even on the ground and Pearce was on Chol. Also for the 4th goal again Pearce is clearly on Chol. So Chol only kicked two on Logue. If you don’t believe me have a look at this clip.

Campbell Brown likes him, he has him in his team of the week. Logue is definitely best 22 every day of the week.

The commentary team was pumping up Rankine so hard. Gets caught holding the ball and is unlucky. Lays a tackle and look out he's applying pressure like a God.

Give me Tony Armstrong any day of the week over that mob.

Still better than Underwood.

Anyway, we lost. But it isn't the end of the world. Getting the pies at home is a good spot to get ourselves back into form. It won't be easy but with tabs, Switta and Walters to shore up the forward line, with fyfe potentially close, should be a very good game

oops, forgot what thread I was in thought I was in the GC autopsy one!

Changes...hmmmm

IN: Sturt, Walters, Amiss, Switta, Tabs
OUT: Tucker, Banfield, Treacy, Erasmus (back to medi-sub), Pearce (if injured)

Not actually sure who was subbed out in the end but Walker was on the field. I think the commentators said it was Pearce (?). Logue to cover if he is injured (again!).

Unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't mind seeing Crowden get a game to see if he can provide some bullet passes into the 50, but not sure who you'd drop him for, midfield wise?!
I just did the same thing haha
