Lol my new GF who is a Carlton supporter is a good luck charm...won every game we've watched together. "How long do I have to keep doing this she asked?" "Babe, I said, won't be long until we're premiers" fu** yeah🌽🍐.
Clearly the right answer there was 'Until death does us part'.

Confession: I didn't watch a single minute of that game live.

Just can't watch Ports at home. Get too worked up watching that shit. Seeing the inexplicable umpiring up close and listening to the mindless barracking/commentary just make it even more unbearable.

Ports putting on a clinic tops a pretty sexy weekend that's included the arrival of my OG Millennium Falcon & TIE Fighter and my last shift at work (eat mah nuts u soggy shitwaffles.) Losing my keys on the way home from work and having to break in through the kitchen window kinda sucked. But the way the weekend is tracking, I'm fully expecting Lea Seydoux to rock up at my door any minute now with my lost key.

Anyway, f@%k it, I'm all in now, more excited than Max Powa & his hawt gf, let's get dat flag farken...

To my mind we had 3 players today that didn’t pass the ( what it takes in big games test ) but I’ll leave that for the changes v Geelong thread .
The rest were great , perhaps McKenzie a bit down but he did a few nice things . It’s true what people are saying it was a very Port Adelaide traditional brand of footy tonight , direct, tough and uncompromising. It was like whatever it took was what we were going to do .
Ladhams and Woodcock look like keepers , some of the Lads marking was brilliant , if he can keep that up that’s a real weapon , he’s still slightly raw like Georgiades but is a delight to watch even though his ruckwork could improve .
Robbie Gray man he was back in a big way tonight , the spotlight was on tonight and he shone big time .
Team defence . Big tick . Rocky might’ve needed a wake up call being dropped and has come back with renewed focus and is now a tackling machine , he’s like the full back of the midfield setup and he’s gobbling up heaps of traffic when it comes through.
Jonas was immense I’m happy to see he’s going for his marks more because his positioning is great .
Dixon should’ve kicked 5 but he was still very good . Quality forward 25 ruckman , if he cant mark he brings it to ground , chooses good options when he has a ground ball .
Powell Pepper is becoming a very important player as well , like Butters get every ounce out of themselves to get the tap on or extra yard to make a difference, very selfless team oriented player and he’s giving away less frees and changers now so sign him up I say.
Hartlett is also consistently good nowadays .
Cant wait for Burton to be back .

You just can't do that and expect not to get suspended. Its only a matter of whether it is one or two and I would like to see two. One for each nut.

Riewolt clearly showing his frustration and the only satisfaction to be gained from this dog act is that it will hasten his slide out of AFL football.

2 rucks are better than one.

2 rucks will get the job done.

2 rucks are better than, better than, better than one.

And keep it that way for the rest of the year.

Anyone that saw Peter Ladhams play live in the flesh at SANFL last year knew he was good enough, and athletic enough to do stuff around the ground at AFL level.

What he did tonight especially on the wing and HF in the last quarter was a carbon copy of how he played against Centrals last year at Alberton especially in front of the Quinn stand for most of the game. The week before that he had a big game at Woodville Oval (both games he had almost quadruple doubles) and I bumped his thread after 2 years, and said that's 3 good games in a row, but after that Centrals game I said he was ready to play AFL.

You have the Primuseque brute strength of Lycett and the athleticism of Ladhams and if one gets injured you play Hayes. That makes them a dangerous combo like WCE and Saints are with 2 rucks.

Bugger having Westhoff play bits and pieces and being the shifter spanner. Let's use the precision spanner.

The Big Game-Ometer was at about 8 today and apart from set shot goal kicking we finally delivered. I believe.

Wow.

Just finished watching it. Goosebumps with the Power chant just at the beginning of the last quarter, the crowd again played a massive part, like I've never seen any other AFL crowd do at full capacity, let alone with 10k.

What a cracking game. Feared we could be left lamenting some missed opportunities and a few terrible umpiring decisions, but the boys just kept going, showing great mental resilience to go along with their ability. Ultimately they were superior to the reigning champs on every department.

Ladhams is a lot of fun to watch, I'm not used to seeing a ruckman who can kick the ball properly (see Lycett's attempt at goal) and Butters has that x-factor I used to think Wingard provided. He can change direction of a play with a quick handball or a clever kick.

Tells you how much I followed the league as a whole in the last couple years that I didn't know Lynch was playing for Richmond, I used to think he was brilliant for Gold Coast.

Just had a look at the ladder and both ends are looking beautiful right now. Mind the gap indeed.

In years to come when you think of the #18 guernsey during our AFL era the first player you’re going to think of is Zak Butters.

He’s our next Robbie Gray that’s already performing like elite level Robbie Gray.
18=Robbie*2

I seem to remember certain comments about Ladhams during and after the loss to the Saints, that he shouldn't be in the side - I may even have read he should never be given another chance. Safe to say the doubters have been silenced.

Can't recall too many comments saying he shouldn't be given another chance. He was terrible that night and needs to be better and has been better. Lycett in obviously helps enormously. The big test comes when Lycett is out, but he did OK enough against Gawn to suggest he can be competitive as sole ruckman.

Watching the replay now. How good is that 10k crowd.
The fans gave everything they had on this one. No arms were crossed during the filming of this football game.

Richmond are such a tough team to play against because their pressure is manic and they break and score in transition like nothing else. To beat them you've gotta match their pressure, win a few unfavourable contests, but most importantly you have to beat them in the middle and be very, very clean moving the ball because turnovers are probably goals.

The Port Adelaide forward 50 used to be a wasteland. A pit of despair. But with the 3 tall setup, we create space, we take marks in the open and in packs, and if the ball hits the deck we have some of the cleanest and most creative hands in the league getting the ball out and generating a shot on goal. The chemistry in our forward line hasn't been better, maybe ever at AFL level, and it's only growing. Butters and Gray are obviously superhuman freaks, but the ability for someone like Woodcock to come in and slot in like he's played all year was absolutely brilliant, especially in a game where being clean against a manic pressure side is so important.

Pete Ladhams giving a huge green light to a 2 ruck setup with that performance is massive for us moving forward. Just massive. I can't see a situation where we don't play 3 talls now, with Marshall hopefully not far away and Westhoff next man up. There is huge competition for spots and our forward line around Dixon is absolutely thriving.

Zak Butters could legitimately be our Luke Hodge, culturally. Just a win at all costs player who at 19 years old is shifting the culture of the entire club through sheer force of will. We're so much more brave, we're so much more bold, we back each other in, and we believe, and he is the talisman. I wouldn't trade him for any player in the league.

Tonight... don't sack Hinkley. He's still got a lot to do to earn his credits back, but if you'd told me that we'd put in a performance like that against an in form reigning premier, who a round earlier had smashed the 2nd place side off the park like that I wouldn't have believed you for a second. The strategy is right. The selections are right. The players stand up and win games when the going gets tough. They believe. This year is, right now, different.

Can't recall too many comments saying he shouldn't be given another chance. He was terrible that night and needs to be better and has been better. Lycett in obviously helps enormously. The big test comes when Lycett is out, but he did OK enough against Gawn to suggest he can be competitive as sole ruckman.

Having him succeed as a ruck/fwd is massive for his development, because now he'll get to ruck against AFL level gun rucks week in week out without the pressure of leading the line.

I know he's nearing the end but it still feels kind of weird watching Port play without Justin Westhoff in the team. Only the 4th time we've put a team on the park without him since 2011.
Did we win the other 3 games?
