Autopsy Round 11, 2023: St.Kilda v Hawthorn

Better than watching half the side stand in front of the Hawks players and give them time and space to make good decisions. At least Hill put pressure on the players.

How many times do we have to see an opposition player get the ball in a circle of 4 flat footed saints players, stop, look around, run past a couple and then nail a teammate

This game today showed why the Hawks have won so many more premierships than us since we both had won just one premiership back in the 60s.

Even with them having a much less talented team on paper than us, they outworked us and had more desire to win, they showed us up as pretenders.

I could handle losing to the Hawks back when they had a much more talented team than us but for us to lose to this Hawks team today is unforgiveable

need to make a statement and drop those who aren’t performing. ross, paton or even Higgins need a reality check. you cannot dish up that heartless performance week in, week out, and retain your spot

Been some embarrassingly world-class dummy spits here today.

Off to talkback with you… or the Carlton membership hotline.

You’ll all be back next week. You can’t help yourselves. Nor can I. We’re hopeless.

My 6 year old has a new name for Dougal Howard - Doodle Coward. I'm having trouble disagreeing.

Speaking of tough decisions, we probably need to have a very hard and very honest conversation with Steele over the break.

Is still trying (9 tackles) but is very clearly playing hurt. Of course I admire his heart coming back after that injury, but he is just a shell of the player he was.

At what stage do we just call his year, put him in for surgery and have him ready to go for 2024?

Im sure he will want to play through, so maybe give him 1 or 2 after the bye to see. But it is not doing anyone any good having him run around like this.

Maybe in the long run the team is better with a fit and rested captain, and 11 games of Windy or Owens as a starting mid
All a coaching issue IMO. Ranting and raving about picking 22 that are 'flint hard' and then rolling out a clearly injured Steele.

Extraordinary game by Sicily.

42 disposals (@90% DE)
21 intercept possessions 😳
17 contested possessions
16 marks
11 score involvements
5 contested marks
628m-gained
163 AFL fantasy points

One of the all-time great defensive games you’d think.

Last quarter he had 16 touches, 6 marks, 9 intercept possessions. Ridiculous performance.

Thats hot. Love a good defensive game.

Lol we lost to a side battling for the wooden spoon, what do people expect?

Starting to nag a bit in the back of my mind that our good start was just due to being flogged in pre-season and having a short lived fitness advantage over other teams early doors.

Now the rest of the comp has gotten match-fit, we are back in the pack fitness wise.

Tactics wise, teams are moving the ball through our zone with ease for a few weeks now.

Coaches will earn their money over the bye. Just being fitter for a few weeks isn’t good coaching.

Stopping teams moving the ball against you is. Time for Ross and co. - who’ve gotten plenty of praise so far this year - to do something about it, and quick.

Should have let him fully heal imo.

Get him ready for 2024.

That is a howler of a loss.
Absolute stinker from everyone. Struggling to find a single winner on the day.
Crouch, Marshall, Sincs, Nas... Maybe.

Overall effort was putrid.
Absolutely torched in the midfield and just repeatedly let them do what they wanted across the board.

Such a shit way to go into the bye.

When we won our only VFL premiership it was the year that decimal currency was introduced in Australia. Those shiny 1c and 2c coins were an amazing sight for a 6 year old. Now in our 150th year as a football club it is anyone's guess when we will win our first AFL premiership.

Next week is bye week.

I don't think we can beat them
