“I used the phrase at one stage last week that it's a form of tanking, what they're going down the path of, and I'm not backing away from that”

:drunk::drunk::drunk:

Clearly not the best form.

We've been trumped by one team's decision to recruit the likes of Darcy Tucker and Griffin Logue and another continuing to employ the worst medical team in AFL history.

I was absolutely rapt for Kosi - after the St Kilda game I said I'd be happy with a 10 disposal game from him each week and people said he didn't do enough for their liking.

Again today he played his role as the second tall well - he took some big marks, led well, was good defensively and kicked goals. His confidence has risen massively and he is an excellent foil for Mitch Lewis.

6 disposals, 3 marks and 3 goals - he also got the ball rolling in the 3rd quarter with a tap on that ended in Breust kicking the opener of the 3rd and building the teams confidence.

Said in the gameday thread, a lot of early contests Lewis refused to commit. Lewis joins the contests and he brings the ball to ground, and kozi gets an easy touch.

Despite the goals, it was a thankless game from kozi

I thought Scrimshaw player really well today. It wasn’t a “Scrimshaw” sort of game but his intent on winning the footy seemed to be really good today. Could he keep his spot over Frost and play that role? I certainly hope so

He was excellent. Should keep his spot regardless of Frost (or hopefully DGB) coming back into the side.

Kosi's been a different player these last couple of weeks. The hands aren't quite so concrete, the set shot is reliable...that goal in the Saints game seems to have turned him around, and potential is becoming performance.

3 contested marks (all in F50) = 3 goals. Glad he kept putting the work in and the club showed faith in him.

Jai Newcombe had 9 inside 50s for the day - 3 of those ended up being direct goal assists due to him lowering his eyes and hitting a leading or free target.

I was told by a former player that some in the AFL who were working at other clubs believed that his 2022 season was a flash in the pan and that he had met his ceiling. Games like today prove how impressive and valuable his football brain is to our young team.

Reckon the turning point for him was the Eagles game - he kicked 2 early goals and then was used as a decoy so Lewis could get more one on ones.

Definitely a confidence player and am glad he's getting some recognition from supporters now

Whoever they were, they shouldn't be involved in footy. Anyone who thought, or thinks. Jai Newcombe has reached his ceiling are absolutely pure and utter clowns.

He is a star, and he's only getting better, he'll be a top player in the competition soon enough.

Guys that work as hard as he does don't have a ceiling.

A short, fat, slow player like Mitchell should have been a below average AFL player/star VFL level player on face value. It's just when you're as diligent and committed to your craft like Sam/Jai you can consistently break those preconceived barriers.

Those self motivated types are rare in footy and the world in general.

We've got a special one here.

Even if it was his ceiling we'd still have a gun on our hands. But to assume he's not going to improve in any way in his third season and beyond is laughable.

The midfield split we have going on between our young star midfielders is perfect at the moment. Everyone's getting touches and having an impact. Newcombe turned the game on its head in the third quarter. He isn't just a young star anymore. He is well and truly emerging as one of the best midfielders in the AFL.

Day's right on his heels. A heart and soul performance from him today. He was everywhere. SSSSSS said it above and I've said it many times in the past, but the way he presents himself is reminiscent of Hodgey. I hope he can gain a bit more of Hodgey's muscle.

Connor MacDonald went into the midfield today, and he easily had his best performance to date. He just provides a bit of class and arrogance that you want. 28 disposals at 75% disposal efficiency, 2 goals, 444 MG, and 12 score involvements. That's the type of statline you would want from Dustin Martin in his prime, not necessarily a 20-year-old in his 31st game, so it's great to see the trajectory he is on. How he went pick 26 in a draft, we will never know.

Nash and Worpel once again did what they do best. It's amazing to see the turnarounds in their careers, which is evidence of why you can never count somebody out. Mackenzie once again provided the spark as the substitute. Josh Ward had a good performance for Box Hill today as well, so this midfield is well and truly on its way to the top. We just have to make sure it keeps rocking and rolling on its way there. Well done to all of them today.

There is a ridiculous value people attach to kids based on where they were taken in the draft, and promising kids taken in alternative ways just don't get it. If a 20 year old former top 5 pick had Jai's year last year, pundits would be asking if he was potentially the next big thing midfielder.

Can't understate this point - Jai had the highest player rating of any Rising Star eligible player ever, higher than Bont, higher than Jaeger, higher even than Daicos. Any judgement on his ceiling was boiling exclusively down to his being a mid season draft pick up.
