The Hawks had last weekend off to rest and recover after beating the Tigers by 37 points at Punt Road Oval as the curtain-raiser to the AFL game between Hawthorn and Richmond. Having had the bye, the Hawks remain in fifth position on the VFL ladder at the moment, in a log-jam with three other clubs for that last spot in the top four. The Hawks are tied with Geelong, the Lions and Williamstown on eight wins for the season so far, while they all are chasing the Werribee Tigers and Southport who each have nine wins for the season (Southport has three losses having played a game more than most of the other clubs in the top 10).
For their part, one of the independent clubs in the competition are not in finals contention at the moment, sitting in 15th position with four wins and eight losses from their 12 games, and will need to get a wriggle on if they are to figure in finals football at the end of the season. Port Melbourne, however, did enjoy a two point win over Geelong last weekend. The Borough led for most of the game but the Cats were able to peg Port Melbourne back on occasions during the third and last quarters, with a goal to the Cats' Phoenix Foster in the 31st minute of the final quarter making it a two point margin at the end of the game. Lachlan Rankin and Tom Hird each had 22 disposals for Port Melbourne, while Jimmy Miller, Harvey Hooper and Billy Gowers
each kicked two goals.
The game will be streamed on the AFL website and 3WBC 94.1FM will have live radio broadcast. Teams to come.
