Wow. What a game. Just finished watching then.

That last quarter better be the way we want to play football for the rest of the year.
Attacking, using the corridor, play on % through the roof, our GOOD ball users had the footy most (Maynard, Quaynor, Pendles, Crisp, Adams, Moore etc), we were PREDICTABLE to the forwards, and because we went fast our forwards got separation and there were so many more 1 on 1 opportunities. And the best thing to see was the LOWERING of the eyes moving past the centre circle. And this was all still able to be done with the team first approach to defence and attacking from our back half.

Buckley, great job after half time but I would love to see us play that way more. We have so many weapons and match winners whose instinct is to play this way but the slow brand of footy brings us back to the pack and it's not our brand. That last quarter was our 2018 brand. We have constantly owned the forward half in so many of our games this year but the slow build up kills any forward opportunities we have and let's the opposition roll back extra numbers which kills us. More of the fast pace from now on.

Adams has our B&F wrapped up by a long way and he single handedly carried us back into it in the 3rd. 17 contested touches and 7 clearances. Staggering.
Daicos is going to be sooooo special if he already isn't. Moves like Pendlebury and has class written all over him. Can't wait for his younger brother.
Moore is AA CHB, his offensive game is something to behold. Defensively fantastic again. Don't want to hear the trial him forward stuff again.
Quaynor built into it but thought that he, Maynard and Crisp owned the defensive half after half time. Awesome to watch them change the angles and just take the game on, not afraid to make a mistake.
Grundy won the ruck battle. Consistently great again.

Noble, Stephenson, JT (he looked quick today!!), Mihocek, Elliott, T Brown, Philips were all very good.

The rest all had their moments. Thought the Cox/Checkers/Cameron trio worked today given the big talls Carlton had. Whilst Cameron's stats won't show much what he did was take one of the big KPD's away from the ball and hopefully that can be Kelly playing that role from next year onwards.

Great win but can't get complacent now. Still need to bank another win or 2 to make finals.

Look, I'm not the biggest Callum Brown fan. I don't think he can kick further than 30m. But he was directly responsible for two goals today.
1) He took on four Carlton defenders and got the hard ball out to Thomas who got it to Pendles, to Tyler and then to Stevenson on the lead. It was one of the most incredible hard ball gets I've seen.
2) He smothered the ball in the last and it went forward to Stevenson I believe.

The thing about Cal is, he is very good at winning a contested ball. I just don't think he's a forward. Would anyone entertain the idea of playing him elsewhere? Daicos improved greatly when moved to the wing.
Have said before that he could make a good back pocket to specifically play on dynamic small forwards who traditionally rip us a new one.

The end of Bucks presser on the 'empty' article:

And he took the opportunity to hit back at a media column that this week suggested Buckley would feel empty until he caps a long playing and coaching career with a flag.
"I want to put on record that my life is very far from empty; I don't have a flag, I'll be working towards it, but it won't define me," he said.
"My life is very full."

So he'll work towards it but it won't define him.

1/ I may be reading into it too much but is anyone else concerned it wouldn't be the end of the world for him if he didn't flag? In other words 'it's ok if I don't'

2/ I know he was responding to reports specifically about him, however my mind would've been better at rest if he stated something to the effect that 'it's about the club and not just about me'

3/ If he would've gone with number two instead what he responded with then you can't deny his end game is flag, but now it seems it is the end game but it's not the 'end of the world if I don't'. Well if that's the case then why are you wasting the clubs time?

I posted this in the news and media thread because it is a concern for me.

I think he spoke really well as he always does. He said he wants a flag and I’m sure he’s doing everything he can to achieve it but it’s not fair to say it defines him.
Bucks nearly single handedly dragged us over the line as a player against the Brisbane Lions in 2002 and only a few seconds of unbelievable play By the Eagles in 2018 prevented him being a premiership coach.
Your standing in history can be a game of inches But who you are as a person is totally different.

You don't need to tell me, the line 'it won't define me (if I don't)' concerns me. It says 'I may not', personally I don't want a coach at the club with an 'if' point of view, I want a coach with a 'when' mentality.

The thing I loved, not sure if anyone else noticed, Carlton came out laughing and joking after half time, all in a very merry mood, a la Richmond. I was actually a bit concerned but couldn't be happier how it all panned out. They know we're coming ... we were waiting, Scum.

I haven't seen the game, I'm on night shift on site - so I'll savour this replay when I get back to Perth.

The vibe I get from the media and this board is positive for me in the way the team looked to deliberately move away from 'keepings off' - something Bucks has said is our best way forward 'score from system' is what he said in a recent presser. So they're on the same page (the panel and the group).

That solely right there is the best reason for optimism, all the others positives are outweighed by this. OK it may have taken 3 qtrs to get there but the intent to play the way intended is there. There is my reason for optimism.

Can't wait to watch the replay and the acid test against Bris at the MC Gabba!

The decision to recruit Noble deserves some credit ... so much crap about Garlett for Richmond, but if you've seen him play this year, he's vastly underwhelming. I think I could've had 28 touches and kicked a goal in that Grand Final farce last year. Noble is a smart, fast and skilled player who always tries to attack, I like him more and more.

Their fans are starting to turn on Eddie for things like this. Sick of his lack of second efforts and laughing about making mistakes. Love to see it

Some of us are total realists and realize that the universe is a perverse bitch.
But that doesn't for a second mean I don't believe I can't succeed at any task I set myself.
I have always been of the Buckley mentality - totally prepared for success but not defined by it.
My perception of myself has always been 'a work in progress' - success for me isn't defined by anything else than being a better person in every way possible than I am today.
Believing that anything else defines me is sheer masochism.

None of that makes Bucks an if or when person. Just stated that I'd prefer a when type coaching the club . A person who within themselves is convinced they'll succeed at their goal.

He gave a hint that he might not be.

If you think a flag should be the one thing that defines a persons life and they shouldn’t be a coach otherwise then you’re the one with issues. Not Buckley.

Well I vehemently disagree so lets move on.
We are far too brainwashed by the American belief that the ultimate success in everything is simply a matter of hard work and the desire for it.
Utter bullshite.

Just watched bucks presser. That man is as well spoken and proud as they get. I didn't like him early on through his playing career but grown to (almost) love the way he goes about things for the club he loves. What a man.

Fwiw I hope he does get a flag. As long as it doesn't cost my club ours.

Im happy with Madges progress, he has certainly looked more at home at AFL level in the last few games. He will still have his cringe moments but he is well on the positive side of the ledger.

I love JT as well, but he has been putrid this year! Today was a good performance, but he needs to back it up with more of the same next game before I’ll really get back on board.
Id take Madgen over roughhead every day

I love both. Both no-nonsense defenders who simply do their job. Hard to believe Roughy is only 2.5 years older than Madge!

Not sure about Madge's ability to play on the genuine full-forwards like Roughy can, but he's proving to be quite the diamond in the rough

Everyone always complains "Bucks has no Plan B". What if our keepings off style we were playing the first half of the year is our "plan B" and we were working to get good at it, make it reliable, and get through the season? And what if the run and gun style we saw in the 2nd half is our plan A all along, and we are starting to flick the switch in a run up to finals?
