You don't though. You get a few lottery tickets. This draft isn't even a good draft for mids. We'd probably end up turning a generational tall forward into Newnes and Acres.

King is a marquee player and worth more than just output alone. In a close final those types are often the difference too. I agree everything starts in the midfield but more gun midfielders come up than generational KPFs.

You'd get Hollands for a second round pick if you went to do that trade. Humphrey is pretty settled up there, he has to want to be traded too.

I get Marshall being put on the table. That's an argument. He's amazing but you can use his capital on a midfielder and play a more rudimentary ruckman instead and probably not go backwards longer term. King would be one of the few untouchables on our list IMO.
be crazy to trade Marshall

Need to pry out some young mids from other clubs. Can't see the draft doing it for us this year.

We Do have Pou, Windhager and Owens who will all start to play midfield more and more in the coming years.

Chase Flanders, Hollands types I guess. Guys not getting a run and top up the depth with Dow and Crouch types while our kids develop

I actually agree with you but he’s an RFA and all reports are he’s looking.

I strongly suspect someone will pay overs for him and if that’s the case I’d let him walk. If he wants to stay on commensurate wage and play a role instead of trying to be a superstar then I’d happily keep him.

As it stands it seems he thinks he’s worth more than I’d be willing to pay for him.
Flashy version of Dunnie

He's had 3 injury interrupted season and for half of last year looked like he was on track to be what his potential looks like. He was one of 3 players on 25 possessions and over 1 goal a game along with DeGoey before injury. To me a second round pick is cashing out on a bet. If he can be signed on a decent wage without going overboard you'd sign him up. If someone is going to go nuts and give him $900k over 5 you'd be crazy to match.
Yeh I think we’re saying the same thing.

I’m happy for him to stay for a reasonable salary and work into a role, I just wouldn’t pay him overs.

Only the idiots that brought Hill and Hannebery to StKilda could possibly countenance Gresham at 800-900k!
Have they found employment elsewhere?
I mean Zac Williams and Jack Martin got the bag going to Carlton. Tom De Koenig might get 900-1m.

If people are paying on potential then he’ll get more than we should pay him

💯 with you
It’s just what we always do
Kick ourselves out of it in the first ✅

Ridiculous run of injuries when we’ve actually shown up to play for once ✅

Repeat the same brain dead mistake of the past two months with dump kicks and rushed bombs directly to the oppo defenders ✅

etc etc.

Core kids are so exciting, most important off season in my memory coming up. Strapped in.

Yeah get people are happy with our effort last night under difficult circumstances but effort is is just a given at AFL level our skills and decision making are putrid and not AFL. Level

Really concerned for King. As someone who’s had a full shoulder reco, the surgeon’s normally remake the joint super tight. For his shoulder to pop out as easily as it did it’s a real worry.
My tip is he’ll need it done gain.

I can barely remember what I had for brekky but I always thought Roo won the rising star at CHB. I’m sure someone will set us both straight.

Hah I remembered that both Roo and Kosi played CHB in their Rising Star years! Doesn't look like it from Roo's stats though, he kicked 21 goals that year. I guess 2002 was a long time ago.

I think we are at the point with Gresham that we are frustrated and only focusing on the mistakes.

Outside of a couple of poor mistakes he was good last night. 8 score involvements is quite impressive. You'd take that every week.

Unfortunately his disposal is quite frustrating though. I've been saying this for years, how a player can get away with dump kicking mongrel punts is beyond me, it seems like such a coachable aspect of the game.
Really not fussed whether he stays or goes
He's defending more in the last few weeks. I think he's starting to get into the Lyon game plan more now. He couldn't get the balance right early on.

He's like bitch-Stewie DeGoey IMO. He's a less polished but he has similar impact at his best. I'd happily pay him $650ish if he plays like he did yesterday. You'd have to pay JDG a lot more to get an upgrade.
I hear you - just not convinced- his disposal by foot (rarely handballs) is just so poor it can kill you in the midfield - can get away with a bit more forward. I can also tell you it is no better at training than what you see under match pressure.

On a more positive note Rowan Marshall take a bow! Towelled up both Gawn & Grundy - doubt he has ever played a better game given the quality he was up against. I suggested they get Campbell to help him yesterday - I was wrong (though maybe now there needs to be a bit of a rethink given our injury list).

Midfield of Marshall, Steele (best game all year?), Crouch (Mr Reliable), Sincs (quality) & Jones (something different) looked a lot better than anything we have dished up for 2 months.

He's less than a year older that Hunter Clark and about a year older than Coffield. He's marked harder because he's shown more.

He had a mixed bag, did some great intercepts but as you said cost some goals. I thought they held Wilkie well which meant that Howard had to do more covering of players that weren't his.

Stocker made a few critical errors too but he's held in high regard so gets a let off. His disposal is all all or nothing IMO. He looks clean or terrible and nothing in-between. I wouldn't mind trying him in the midfield and pushing someone else back in his spot.

Stocker brushed off Trac like a child at one point last night.

If Paton returns to form or we get Coff back I’d love Stocker to take a midfield rotation
Agree
Stocker and windy rotating thru

I know what you are saying but he is 26 soon and played 128 games. Should be in his prime - at this stage of his career hard to break bad habits (particularly poor disposal) - not impossible but hard.

As I said, happy to keep him, and at his best offers a point of difference, but no way paying over the odds. If he goes he goes.

Tbh the main impact from these injuries will be King.
We have good players to come back - Battle,Hill, Higgins - not sure where Membrey is at.
Jones was very good and Billings was ok and will be better for the run.
I agree King will be a loss for us.
However we started the season off without him and did pretty well, with him being out it makes us more unpredictable.
I wish Membrey was available as I feel we could do with a senior player in the forward line to guide the young ones.
