What's the point of reviews anymore?

Nearly every game we play against anyone of quality is always the same. Bottom 5 or 6 players actually make it near impossible for us to win unless our better players play supurb games and the lesser ones don't have the ball come near them much at all.

Our zoming is putird - has been for ages now. Just another complete weakness of coach and coaching staff to not see this as when we win it's rarely if ever because of coaching nous and more so one or more of very best players burn it up. Just another thing that's been happening for years to cover for Hinkley's country footy nous. Gray, Wines, Boak Dixon etc have had more to do with us being anything other than a mid table side than Hinkley ever has.

Whose ****ing bright idea is it to have guys like Clurey and Jonas play 15-20m in front of their direct opponents? How many times do we need to see opposition sides break through and have an easy run to score? If you're going to play that far in front you need 2 things to happen - you need to have some level of pace and an ability to read the game. Both those guys have none of that. Stupid, stupid, stupid and it's been happening for years.

Our zone or 'team defense" has bred a long list of guys that hide when it matters most. Finger pointing, the looks of anguish on their face when someobody pops up all alone, a total lack of responsibility and it goes a long way to explaining where we are as a footy club.

We are soft, front runners that can't handle any reasonable level of physiciality or expectation. That is on you Ken, and you alone.

Our list is nowhere near what many think and once Hinkley has finally departed I hope the broom is very wide. Medical and List Management both need a refresh urgently.

But we all know having a person with almost complete control over the Club, with a board he has basically hand-picked, and having no idea whatsoever about anything footy is going to be our biggest battle. As long as Koch is about we'll never really move forward. Koch lives in a pretend, elite world where honesty and doing what's right trails a long way behind spin, percepetion and ego.

34 tackles on a day we were playing for possibly making a go of this nightmare of a season. 34.

142 fumbles, 78 broken or missed tackles, 50 odd times of physical avoidance and 1268 looks of anguish.

WTF have we become. It's embarrassing.

And yeah, Melbourne were fairly poor all day too, but that just goes to show how hopeless we are.

Superficially the 1st placed team beat the 12th placed team by 14 points. I guess you could say that is a reasonable effort.

However when you consider that we had more inside 50s, more clearances, more contested possessions etc. it really just comes back to the inability of the club to win entirely winnable games. Melbourne played mostly like s**t but still won. That is what good teams do.

Our forward line is a massive problem. So many players who have very little forward craft and talent. Or guys like Georgiades who are talented but horrifically out of form.

I think you have to play Williams for the rest of the year and see what happens. Fantasia ain't coming back this season and might never come back. We need to attempt to unearth some sort of small/medium forwards.

Agree. It was a complete lack of small forwards that killed us today, and seeing what Pickett did at the other end really put an exclamation mark on that reality. Can we persist with Pepper in that role when he’s never going to covert at better than about 50%? Can Burgoyne play small forward? I’d prefer him in the team than Mead.

Strangely, it wasn’t the ruck that killed us. It was a lack of composure and polish, defensive accountability and a bottom six who left us comprehensively outnumbered for most of the game.

Few positives at all and numerous big headaches.

Bergman, Drew and Rozee were the pluses.

Butters’ unreliability, Georgiades’ worsening levels of incompetence, Mead’s inability to rise to the required level and Farrell’s distinct lack of effort or energy killed us. Then we have three of the worst performing tall defenders in the competition.

Drew was average.

He’s currently a poor mans Port version of Tom Rockliff. Nil hurt factor

Pickett 6 goals from small forward, game set and match. My kingdom for a decent small forward and dont say Fantasia ffs.

The problem with our small forwards is other coaches don’t know what they are doing and they will put a defender on them. Thus making it harder for our forwards to kick goals. Idiots.

Exactly - he was impactful with nearly every possession and attack on the ball in 2020. Since his big injury, he does the occasional party trick with a 60cm over the head handball, and then resorts to 15m chip kicks to uncontested teammates.

Compare his current level of impact to Rozee’s and they are poles apart.
