One of the biggest improvements across the side has to be the transitional ball movement from defence to forward. We were able to soak up their dominance in clearances, pluck off everything from half back and catapult to the forward line with such pace that our forwards were able constantly catch them out of position. There were periods where it felt every time we’d go forward, we’d give ourselves a chance to score.

Gunston and Sicily back make us look so much better, but the biggest improvement is the one we were most concerned about and that’s the movement from back to forward. And that’s where we’ve thrived with guys like Newk, Morrison, Nash, Ward, McDonald etc all killing it in this regard. It’s really exciting to watch.

What an amazing game. To see that level of efficiency, pressure, total team commitment. To see so many players step up, new, developing and senior players. They were in sync and it was beautiful to watch. LOVED it.
My husband was out last night (I politely declined - had to watch the Hawks!) He deliberately didn't tune in and last quarter texts to say he's coming home, can I pause it. I reply sure but I'll just rewind to the beginning - I'm happy to watch the recording again with you. I don't mind.

Hehe.

Our field kicking was 100% better then the north game also hope this is the base and just continues to get better and better one thing along with our goal kicking that has just got worse and worse since our 3peat.
First game in years where our players didn't go long to a hotspot. Every kick was in front of a teammate. Much easier to then wheel and go when the players don't have to stop

I wasn't able to watch this one because of other commitments. Quite shocked when I saw the score - even more so when I read the stats.

Reading the autopsy comments helped make some sense of it - but it is highly unusual to lose all the key stats and win in a canter. Still feels a bit unreal.

Looking forward to next week - Carlton will not be pushovers. If we can get their measure, we could be playing finals as early as this year.

One thing that’s noticeable is our spacing is really good, we play an open style of footy and don’t get in each others way.

It’s a pleasure to watch our forwards who know when to lead, to the space that we are creating as we are predictable in the sense that we will move the ball as quickly as possible.

We are a fun team to watch again.

Far out. What a win. That was so much fun. Only could get there half way through the second but that was just so much fun.
Section 543 in the eastern stand, the Hawks allocated area. So so good. Got offered to sit in a corporate box right near our coaches box but was just loving sitting with Hawks fans and actually feeling the energy of the goals rather than the flatness of the Port fans.

Lewis is coming of age. Gunston hasn't missed a step. There was just so much good shit to talk about last night I don't even know where to start. Ward and MacDonald are definitely works in progress but they are contributing nicely at the moment and can't see them slipping out of the team for a while.

Moore works so ****ing hard, he is an absolute jet. It's so crazy to think that he wouldn't be anywhere near an AFL list if that Gold Coast game never happened.

I'm excited now. I just wanted us to be competitive last night but to smash these blokes is an unreal effort. I understand they were missing players but wow. This was just so good. Love this bloody club so much.

I'll say again, this style of game, despite being great to watch, puts enormous heat on the oppo. We're always looking to score and get into dangerous positions. Our ball movement is always asking questions of the oppo defence. We can easily look to reply to a goal, rather than go into our shell.

It's the modern game. And we are playing it as well as anyone.

Strap in for the ride.

This. When we do get it in deep and high the smalls are staying down and the big lads are blocking for each other and not competing for the same ball. It's the best synergy our forward line has had in 6-7 years. Everyone is on the same page.

Watch the first ten seconds. Mitchell gets hit by Powell-Cueball. Nash running after the ball turns his head ad has a very good look to see a) if Mitchell is OK (possible) or b) to see who got him so he can line him up for later. (probable)

A young team made up mostly of non-first round selections. The funny thing is, they ALL had a say in the result.
