Autopsy Round 2, 2022: Hawks disconnect the power

Just seeing Mitch Lewis kick 5 straight fills me with pride - lost my grandad Graham Arthur at the start of 2021- he wore the number 2- man it bloody hurt like hell. But the one thing he passed onto me was the pride and joy in family and to cherish it… to savour every chance you have…

To see the jumper worn with such joy by Mitchy- man I love it, I love this club, it means everything to me - it’s been my whole life and now I feel like we’re building to a new era…

What a great win we had tonight in hostile conditions - really great night for the club - bleeding brown and gold right now… the Hawks mean more to me now than ever- it’s such a privilege to be a part of it …I wouldn’t trade it for anything..

Dunno what else to say- really love this club… and looking forward to what’s to come!

Although Port were a bit insipid and missed a lot early, I'm struck by how much how our dynamic has changed with the addition of Sicily, Gunston and the new mids. We haven't even seen much of Wingard in the midfield but it looks a bit less predictable.

No more high numbers by one or two mids which is GOOD!! Sharing the load with our half frwds and half backs coming in and playing closer to our midfield group but then spreading out wide to open up the ground once we get possession of the ball!!! We will lose games and have players look sluggish at times but there's a lot to be excited about. Having Gunston and bruest next to Lewis is perfect balance as Mac and Moore go about their business as quality high half frwds/pseudo mids to help worps, Tom , Jaeger and newk by spreading the oppo mids wide to force them to man up away from congestion which port lazily did NOT do, hence why they ended up with high numbers but with a added extra A-hole by the end of the third term!!

Still think Carlton as so far ahead of us? I told you a week was a long time in footy 🤪
Perhaps, but the Blues have beaten a Tiger outfit falling off a cliff and a disorganized Bulldogs team, still good wins admittedly but they are not suddenly finals lock-ins and/or sure things to give our boys a thumping..?

Geez what did I just watch, I’m putting the replay on now just in case it didn’t happen.
I like every expert at the start of the year picking the hawks for the spoon

Suggest those watching a match replay, watch this first. Nathan Brown's prediction was spot on; "I think it's gonna be a blowout!"...

Which of our B grade, not good, shithouse youngsters would Kane Cornes like the most at PA?
Probably loves Marshall because he's a 1st rounder and doesn't rate Lewis because he was the 2nd last pick in the draft. That's how it works right?

While our youth is getting the attention tonight. I thought out senior players were also outstanding. McEvoy, Mitchell, O'Meara, Gunston and Breust were all great it shows the value of having awesome established players to help bring on the next generation

I know he cops it for his decision making, but I thought Frost had a very good game. In fact, I would go as far to say that was just about the best game he's played for Hawthorn.

His domination of Buddy late last season was his best work imo

Gunston has now moved into 10th spot on the Hawks All-time leading Goal-kicking list.

7. John Peck 475
8. Luke Breust 444
9. Dermott Brereton 427
10. Jack Gunston 384
11. Alec Albiston 383

Lovely man Graham Arthur. He was the person who signed me up as a member back in the 1980s. His father coached my SANFL club Norwood back in 1938-39.

I'm trying to think which flag it was, I think it was 1989 when I met up with a couple of mates at the Hawthorn club and we were going to walk over to the celebrations in the Town Hall. At that precise moment, out walked Graham Arthur, Michael Tuck and Gary Ayres, so the six of us became a walking group.

There had been a rumour about a parade down Glenferrie Road but nobody knew anything about it. As we walked along, some council workers recognised Tucky and said "Hey, where's the parade?". Tucky in his usual manner just said, "This is it", and we kept walking. I smile to myself every time I think of it.

Was very saddened to hear of Graham's passing.

Not his best game, but I thought he also played well against North last week.

Newk, Moore and Connor Mac were absolute weapons at half forward.

Connor loves trying to find a player's advantage side and lead them to dangerous spots with the ball. He's going to embarrass guys in the middle in a few years.

Frost super solid as a true fullback.

Bring on Will Day.

Bloody awesome win.

TheFourPillars have you noticed how well we're spacing in stoppage situations and clearances? Infinitely better than all our midfielders collapsing in and getting exploited on the outside.
We got beaten at the contested stuff and clearances this week but our defence really stood up and after a long time our transition football looked great. We executed so well on transition not just with our skills but with players being able to find space. We ran hard all game. The physical pre season which included lots of one on one wrestling generally after a 2 to 2 and a half hour session has meant we r running out qtrs and the game really well. Our skills and connection this game was 100 fold better than last week. Exciting stuff. Having Gunston back leading that forward line has made a difference they are working well together. Looking forward to next. Bring it

Thanks Hawks - my first game since last season's loss to Port & took the whole family. Sat in section 543 with a heap of Hawk's fans & we made some noise!

best thing is went with good friends who sat in their members seats for Port - they weren't happy after the game but boy we were

we go into the Oval Hotel for a brewsky & my 14yo lad gets a photo with Platts

Happy times & thank you Dad for being a Hawks supporter - I hope my sons look on me fondly down the track for the same reason :)

The pleasing thing to take away from this game was that Ward, MacDonald, Newcombe and Nash all kicked a goal.

Ward: 20 disposals - 5 marks - 2 tackles - 4 clearances - 1 goal
MacDonald: 18 disposals - 2 marks - 2 tackles - 5 inside 50s - 1 goal

For anyone who missed it because Fox Sports sucks - absolute pleasure to listen to this man talk about footy
