Brisbane were ultra impressive tonight, and we'll have to be at our absolute best to beat them on Thursday night. Sherman was awesome in the second half, with his run and drive off the wing. We'll have to keep him under control. Black was Black, and all we can hope for is we can keep him reasonably quiet. Perhaps Gibbs backing up from his game on Deledio might be the way to go. I'd actually think about sticking a tag on Sherman as well, maybe Walker could go with him on the wing.

The positive for us was that the game was played in very humid conditions, and Brisbane had a heap of players going down with cramp. With Carlton having an extra 48 hours to recover, this could be telling.

Brisbane were hurting after tonight's game. A lot of players cramping in the third and final quarters. Given that we have an extra 2 days to recover for Thursday's showdown at the GABBA, I would expect us to run the game out easier than the Lions.

With this in mind, I'm predicting a 22 point victory to the Blues.

Our back 6 will guard the fort while our midfield provide sufficient supply to our forwards. Jamo takes Fev, Waite takes Brown, Bower takes Brennan and Thornton takes Staker.

The boys need to seize the opportunity to set our season up given the tough run we have between round 4 and round 9.

Make it happen boys!

Brisbane are certainly not looking that flash but it also shows me WC have improved substantially (except the crab Priddis)
We certainly can run with them. Just need to control that rebound from their backline and stop easy entries into their fwd 50.
**** knows what Wet Toast see in him. Soft as butter, shocking disposal and decision making.

The Lions now don't really have a good small forward. Joseph should be able to go into the midfield and may well take Rich or Sherman.

Adcock went off on crutches, Drummond sore, McGuire with a Hammy (according to 10 but ?cramp?), Buchannon dislocated a thumb early.

Some injury concerns for the Lions, and they had to run very hard to get over the line. The short turn around should help us.

Jammo will beat Fev. Thornton should be able to stop Brown from running amok and Bower can peel off to help.

Our small forward can really cause them some headaches. I don't see them (many teams in fact) having two quick lock down defenders that can go with Betts and Yarran.

It will be tough but I think if we hit our targets early as well as we did on Thursday, they won't be chasing down a 5 goal lead in the last after a 5 day break.

Blues by 6 points.:thumbsu:

Fev was very very good tonight.

8.8 from Brown and Fev and one out on the full.

You'd wanna hope Jammo is playing

it'll be a ripper game.

Brisbane got on top tonight because the Eagles lacked enough quality rotations in the midfield. The Eagles could have put the game away if they had another couple of quality mids. This is where we will be able to match Brisbane & if they start as slowly as they did tonight, we will be more likely to put them away.

If we can hold sway in the midfield, Fev & Brown won't be a factor (Brown & Bradshaw kicked 9 between them in Round 2 last season & we still won comfortably). As mentioned by another poster, Waite to Brennan looks like a good match-up. Brennan was so good for them tonight. Russell gets Johnstone & should worry him out of the game (Johnstone was also very good tonight, as he was in Round 1 last season, but we shut him down in Round 2).

Should be good seeing Kreuzer & Warnock taking on Leuey & Clark. I thought Clark looked out of sorts tonight, not sure if he was carrying an injury, but he didn't seem to have the same mobility as we saw from him last season.

It is a winnable game if we come out of the blocks like we did on Thursday night & put some early scoreboard pressure on.

?? You post that like its impressive?
Lions supporters starting to realise Fev's radar isn't always "on".

3.5 is good.........not very very good........Bradshaw would have kicked 5.3.;)

If Jammo doesn't play then Waite will take Fev. Any defender that can match Fev for pace off the lead tends to beat him. Despite the reco I have all faith that Waite could beat Fev if Jammo doesn't come up.

......and yes, I agree, I think it will be a ripper.:thumbsu:

Any word on your injured players?

Brown's smashed Waite enough times for me not to see that match-up. Besides with Fev now playing for the opposition Waite needs to be forward. Happier sending Henderson back.

So you'd have one of our club's most inexperienced players on the competition's premier CHF? Surely you jest!

Does Bower ever get a run in the middle? I honestly have no idea, from what I've seen I'd say no but... this seems to suggest he does? Because Brennan will be in the middle.

Interesting the see "lack of quality in midfield". If you watched our game tonight, you would've seen you've got more to worry about the old Blacky and Power.

Fev and Brown had 18 shots on goal between them, so it'll be very interesting to see how you guys cope with them. You haven't got a defender as good as Glass, though your 2nd best and 3rd best defenders would be better than West Coasts.

Lots of cramps late in the game, unfortunately our bench was cut down something fierce.

Hopefully doesn't combine nastily with our 5 day break, I assume the players will get a VERY light week in regards to training.

Should be a good game.

Clark had a very late fitness test, and was vomiting A LOT before the game. Shouldn't have been played, and was definitely no where near 100%.

As fast as you came out of the block on Thursday, you were playing Richmond. If we put up as weak a resistance as them, I will be severely disappointed.;)

yer don't see bower taking brennan. should be

bower/thornton - brown/staker
jamo - fev
waite/walker head to head with brennan
gibbs head to head with black
russell - power?
army - sherman
AJ - rich

sorry about bad layout, typed on my phone :)

Waite on Brennan, Bower on Brown I meant to type.

Brennan was by far BOG tonight. His run and carry is damaging. But it's your rebounding backs that worry me more than your midfield.

Don't worry, we will be primed for this game.

Interesting to note that in all 3 Carlton/Brisbane games last season, Carlton opened up a handy lead & were pegged back by the Lions (with the Lions getting across the line in the EF). I hope the pattern continues, because I am confident we will run out the game better than all 3 games last year, with our younger mids having another pre-season under their belts.

Murph vs Power I'd assume... Provided Power plays in the centre and not on the flank...

Fev had a lazy 11 shots at goal today without dominating.

Had Glass on him all day as well.

Although every single Brisbane player went down with cramp. Fev included. Had a few injuries as well so small interchange and some very tired legs. Tough game.

The short turnaround might be a pretty big factor.

Didn't see Power in the midfield much at all tonight, although I only saw the second half of the game. We need to cross our fingers and really hope that Jamo comes up for Thursdays game. We need him very badly to play on Fev.

Most of Brisbanes players were out on their feet tonight, and cramping very badly. If the game is close going into the last quarter, Carlton will most certainly have the fresher legs.

noted no WCE cramped whilst you still ran over the top of them, bit strange!

Sherman always slips under our guard, and plays pretty well against us. I'd be assigning someone to him. Maybe JR, or even a Carrazzo.

i think he's too crash and bash for a Carazzo type, needs someone just as fast to stop him getting quick burst goals like he always does.

Simmo and Tex need to blow the cobwebs out and play at 100% if we're to win the midfield battle

I don't see the turn around as a major factor as Carlton still have to travel.
I think the ruck is the most vital battle of the game. If you guys can get on top there, it will take away what I feel is our biggest advantage, in our back line being a lot better than your forward line
