Do you think coaches won't quickly figure out how to create more stoppages once they realise that run and gun is not sustainable with fewer rotations over a full season and matches 20% longer again? There's going to be a lot of hammy & calf injuries this year if they don't.
Hope you're right and they do. Quickly.

Yuk. Why?

You wanna see Richmond win the next 20 GFs?

I hate the constant rule changes but anything that opens up the game is good IMO

He has. The problem is that the game has sped up.

Cripps is a contested stoppage beast, but with fewer stoppages the ball just seems to be going past him and he can't keep up. Combine that with him being parked up forward and it's hard to see any improvement in his scores happening.

Cripps is amazing (probably the best in the comp) at one thing, but one thing only. He's just not versatile the way that the Danger, Fyfe and Martin types are, or the Hodge, Swan and Ablett types were.

He's a conundrum for Carlton. He's their best player and will want franchise player wages this year. Other clubs will offer those wages too, but then you have to build your club around him. As good as he is, and he really is THAT good, he maybe just isn't THAT player. Carlton have realised that too, which is why they have him playing different roles. Unfortunately, they're going to get the most out of him by simply inserting him into every contest and letting him do his thing, but this could be a problem in and of itself because as you said, there are fewer contests now. It also makes them somewhat predictable.

Walsh, on the other hand, seems like the package.

*Checks liquor cabinet for Drambuie
I’m a Bourbon guy ... not a fan of Whisky, but have so many bottles as presents .... Drambui was recommended as a mixer .... hey man, it’s the Bomb

Ive had it before but I mostly smash beer/homebrew and drink a lot of neat scotch whisky. Single malt. No blends. No ice.

Let’s say Cripps is looking for his payday with the next Contract .... could any club risk more than a 3 year Contract, with the battering Cripps body’s taken

I’d say he’s looking for more than 3 years though

 one I dont have 🤔

This must be rectified
One of the all time favourite Cocktails of the 60’s .... the “Rusty Nail” was a favourite IIRC of Frank Sinatra

Staying on topic .... Frankie was also a keen SuperCoacher too :)

Another couple of Pints of these Rusty Nails and i’ll probably trade him in tonight ..... I’m going to regret today, tomorrow

I reckon they got the Birth Certificates mixed up and the wrong player retired. Kade Simpson is only 26 and it's Cripps that is 56

Combine the fact his best years he averaged

28 touches, 6+ tackles, 4+ marks, 17 CP's and 8 clearances

Through two games this year he's averaging 25 possies, 2.5 marks, 4.5 tackles, 11.5 CP's and 5 clearances

Now getting fewer touches, way less tackles, he's spreading less from the contest because the ball is moving much too fast, and his huge CP numbers just can't be a valid option anymore with the amount of stoppages decreasing immensely. His clearance numbers will always stay quite high but I'm not sure it's a metric that CD use for point scoring, CP's is 100% though.

Add in the fact that he's gone from a one man show in 2018-19 with absolutely no help to now having Walsh ZWill Setterfield (last year) among others helping him do the heavy lifting, the man we once knew isn't required anymore. If you look at some of those teams he played with a few years ago, Carlton were incredibly bad, blokes like O'Shea, Polson, Mullett, Rowe, LOB, Dow, Jed Lamb were shoe ins week in week out because they were garbage. As a whole the Blues depth has increased which means less points to go around for Cripps.

I've also said this a few times but he doesn't have that pig mode in him that when you watch him he chases kicks or possessions like a Neale Titch or Zerrett, he knows his limitations and he knows the ball is better off in other blokes hands like Saad Walsh ZWill or Doc overlapping so he's happy to float about and do what's necessary for the team.

I think he may also be a target of his own greatness for what he was able to achieve a few years ago. As you stated he's not a forward or guy who clunks marks but with limited rotations he needs to go up there for a breather.

I think what you can expect from Cripps moving forward is Luke Shuey type numbers, great player who can excel on his day and go huge but will net you an average anywhere from 95-105. Sad but true.
