IMO McAndrew has to be the sub.

We are already gonna have only two talls in McLean & McDonald. If Ladhams was to go down in the ruck, and say McLean had to take over rucking (which is already an incredibly dire situation), we'd be up against two ruck-men (Reeves & Meek) and we'd have only one tall inside 50 (McDonald.)

We'll likely already have Roberts in as an extra mid/small forward, so we will be covered for run. So we need to cover for talls.

Agreed - with McLean and McDonald on the ground, having McAndrew is a prudent sub.

No, the concerns I used were that the structure on both lines turns to s**t.

The concern isn't McLean being the back-up. If Ladhams went down, McLean wouldn't be back-up then. He'd be the main ruck, against two Hawthorn rucks.

And if McLean is the main ruck, then he's not forward, so the concern isn't the 2-tall forward line, because there wouldn't be two talls. There would be McDonald as the only tall.

So it would have a negative knock-on effect to our entire forward half. Why not take the option to combat that if it's there for us to use? Why use it on a mid or a runner when we're already bringing an extra one into the team anyway?

You're still going with the assumption that we'll only have 2 talls up forward, which only happens if you don't pick McAndrew (or someone else) to begin with. That's fine, I just don't see the point in doing that and having McAndrew as the sub. If it's a significant concern, you just don't let that scenario play out.

You said earlier that McAndrew could also be used if Ladhams and 2 KPFs just wasn't working structurally, that's what I was referring to. Again, if you have concerns, you just don't let that play out. You just name McAndrew.

I just don't see a reason to try and be cute with the sub, when it can backfire.

Edit: I'm over discussing this anyway, we could probably take all our tall forwards out and replace them with mids, and still win this game.

After having watched some of the GWS-Adelaide match I don't think we can make the least peep about the conditions we played in. If GWS were playing almost anyone apart from the Weagles this week I wouldn't rate them too much of a chance. They were cooked, almost literally.

Yesterday I was working out on a concrete slab installing a 100kg umbrella. Full sun.
