Round 2 The Sydney Swans vs The Hawthorn Hawks

Meh, I'm talking in terms of concistent, 4-quarter footy, which a lot of people have been saying was a concern. I can't remember the last time we dominated a relatively strong opposition team for essentially 4 quarters.

White should get Rising Star nomination this week.

Gonna rip the bay apart with a thread bagging hawthorn now u got the ammo costanza?

I did it once their are so many bandwagoners ready to bite

Yeah I know mals gun kicking is back.

But I'm being realistic can't get to carried away after one round win

Then lemme remind you:

- Last year we won one match against a top 8 side (St Kilda) in the H&A season.
- We haven't beaten a reigning premier in the H&A season in more than 4 years.
- We haven't played this consistently, with essentially everyone chipping in, for 3 years.
- We haven't had that sort of play from youngsters, as well as older players, in a long time.
- I think that's our highest score since 2006 (It was 142 last year against port, not sure of '07).

I'm thinking that $5.50 at the start of the season for odds of us making the finals is looking mighty tempting right now.

Brisbane, Carlton, Freo in the next three weeks are more than winnable after the way we played tonight.

West Coast, coming back from 40-odd down at half-time for Bolton to kick one in the dying seconds?

Trumped the Freo one for me.

+ The Malceski Golden Foot is creeping back (hopefully).

Yup, that West Coast game was brillianbt.

Gee that Malceski, i did not realise how much swing he likes to put on the ball when he kicks it. But he brings it back beaaaaaaaautifly. :D

Would liked to have gone to the game toinght, but i had a migraine last night and was throwing up. Spewin' (excuse the pun.)

LRT has really been showing something so far this season. Who agrees?

Caught the hawks at a very good time. Set an AFL record tonight apparently for most hitouts in a game. Renouf was well beaten by the experience in Jolly and White looks like he could complete a very strong duo.

Love the way White goes about it. Not afraid to get stuck in and he reminds me a lot like Cox with his agility.

Kirk was great on Mitchell. Didn't get much of the ball himself, but i think Mitchell had 5 or 6 touches early on and only finished on 11 shows the fighting spirit within Kirk. Top stuff.

LRT always had it!!!, it just that not everyone can see pass his wavy blonde hair and his style of play. I'm really glad more people are noticing his contribution to the swans back line defence.

He trys his best all the time, puts his body on the line, cops heaps of beating from opponents, doesn't make a big fuss over it, and just keeps going hard at the ball.

His kicking has greatly improved and his awareness of the play is getting even better. I'm glad we have him on our team, he is sometimes underrated and bagged alot, but he is awesome.

Agreed, i was always nervvy when he had the ball in the backline, at times he looked like a deer in front of headlights, but this season, he looks very confident, direct and a lot more stable at the back.

Loved that bit in the game when he ducked his head between 2 Hawks. It was magic!

Bit hard on Moore here.If you look at his stats you will see he got 100 SC points. He is very quick with his hands and I think you need to watch the replay,as I have just done,to realise what he does!
I was wrapped with LRT.He was fantastic in his 100th game.
I don"t think we had many passengers on the night .Jack really needs to work on his kicking.
White was great. We should play him every week as he's only going to get better.
GREAT RESULT FOR US AND YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR HAT OFF TO ROOSY & CO !!!!!!

Bloody hell, that was an amazing game. The atmosphere at the ground was fantastic, and the boys put on a stellar performance.

Jolly - what more can anyone say? He was fantastic and kicked 3 goals to boot. Great, strong hands and a lovely kick. 190 SuperCoach points! Amazing!
C Bolts, well, we all know that I have wraps on him :D Spanked Franklin, 12 marks and 25 touches. Heart!
Everybody also knows that I am not exactly LRT's biggest fan :p but after last night's performance I may be forced to change my opinion!
Getting more excited each week about Shaw.

Just a fantastic team performance all round. Go Swannies :D

One of the most enjoyable games to watch for long a while!

Made even better by a few beers with Hooley & MalceskiFan afterwards. Thanks for the invite:thumbsu:

The most pleasing aspect so far in 09 is the obvious massive development of the young brigade over the pre-season. Many have stepped up to gain max benefit from playing alongside the premiership big guns!

(PS Bedford there is now no such player as McHack!;))

Idd like to take the time and thank Rhyce Shaw...who when he gets the ball doesnt stop...doesnt kick it backwards or doesnt kick it to someone whos being held by the opposition...he gets the ball and runs and RUNS FAST i am soooo happy we have him hes a quality player and when he settles into the club more he will benefit from his games more so...im glad roosy has let him run let him play like he did at the pies...I may start falling for Rhyce over Heath

We all now i love my littles ones and im sooo proud of Craig and Jesse...craig took a massive bump to the head and hurt his knee...and a quick rest on the sidelines and a clean up and he was back out...kicked a very nice goal and just goes about his game...getting the ball and getting it out...took a few nice marks aswell...this kid has had so much pressure on him...but now a year under his belt he is getting better and better im getting excited to see how he will be playing at the end of the year

Jesse still has a few things to learn but WOW did he look amazing paired up with Jolls last night hes got such a strong body...as show when he bumbed that hawks player last night...i had a big cheer...and if all else fails and Jess doesnt need 2 be in the ruck...forward line is where he can go...what a nice little set shot on goal after the siren the type of goals Jesse loves...i had some people sitting next to me saying he wont be able 2 kick it and i turned to them and said "You dont know Jess" he kicked the goal and i said "Know you know Jess" I screamed the 1st game british boys next to me loved that i was so passionate

JOLLY I LOVE YOU ENOUGH SAID

Defence last night was top class...there was one bit in the last last quarter i think LRT and maybe it was McVeigh (though i have no idea why he would be down there) hand balled and tippy toed their way around 3 hawks players and got the ball out nice and quickly i was so excited

Was a really nice game 2 go to had lots of fun...nice to hear the crowd so vocal...

SEXY SMITH HE SIMPLY IS JUST THE SWEETEST BOY EVER
and Currie is learning to love his banner

SYDNEY SWANS FTW

Ended up getting my sister and a friend into the members with me, but they sat there rather oblivious to who was playing, so I had to be constantly telling them who was what number and so on... But my sister kept asking who number 2 was because she thought he was REALLY good, and remembered Davis in the number 2.

That's the thing, it seems like such a sudden improvement....I'm not complaining, I'm just so used to being nervous whenever he gets the ball!

Just on Moore.....he certainly wasn't a passenger, but I don't know that you get the consistent effort out of him that you do from a few of the other young guys, e.g. Jack, Bird, Bevan. I was really surprised to see he had 100 SC points in the game because I thought he didn't really impact the game apart from that stretch where he kicked a goal and did some nice in close work to set up another one or two. I just don't think he's done enough since he got in the team last year to be an automatic selection.

Can we get Jesse White more involved in games? He has a bit of an x-factor about him....and some much needed height, which not many of our young guys have.

Corps, i admitted in the off season that there is no more McHack, it now could be McBarlow or McMoore.
As hard as i was on the team and coaching panel last week this is only one win for the season. The most pleasing thing was the style of play it was like 2003 with attacking footy and we actually played play on footy and didn't hold the ball up and the forwards actually stayed at home. The only worry is BBBH in that we go to him too often and if we don't he cracks the shits.
Great game by the swans, lets hope they keep playing this brand of footy and keep the tackling up to last nights level.

It warmed my heart to see Kirk celebrating his rare goal, (first goal for 09!)
The LOUD cheer when O Loughlin was caught on the big screen,
Jesse White being congratulated by what looked like the whole team on his first,
Everyone running to Meredith (my love) after his goal assist to Malceski.

God I love my footy.

I worked late yesterday and forgot to set my vcr to record the game, and caught only the second half. If anyone has a recording of it, or knows where I can get a hold of it, please, please, let me know.

Thanks!

I predicted it before you ;)

One negative from the game would be our sloppy disposal. Against a Geelong or an Adelaide or a Carlton (shudder) we would've been constantly shown up.

Other than that, no negatives! Great game.

Agreed, disposal out of the back-half was poor, and only our clearances saved us because of our ruck domination, so let's not get too ahead of ourselves, buuuut with Lions, Blues, Dockers and Tigers in the next four weeks we SHOULD be able to get four more wins on the board, before our next big task against Geelong, who may be without Ottens for that match, which would be rather spiffy. What a way to take out the competition eh? Just dominate in the ruck when they happen to have their big men out. :p

Id laugh if we got into the finals and hawthorn and geelong had no rucks and we went on to win the premiership!

Well a girl can hope.....
