For those bagging the GHS omission. He had 4 possessions on the weekend. His final one was a wild handball that didnt hit any of the 3 team mates he had near by. He was under minimal pressure. The truth is - and the coaching staff see this daily on the track - his decision making and also his disposal is not good enough right now. He lacks leg speed. He doesnt have a big bull body like Caddy or Selwood. So what you have, is a slow midfielder who often sprays it. Against a RED HOT fierce tackling, very quick side in Hawthorn - a side that you need to be super quick and full on against due to their amazing foot skills and their pace all over the ground -on a huge ground like the MCG - you cant carry a plodding smaller bodied midfielder who doesnt absolutely hurt you with his disposal. Thats why he's not in the side. But heck - maybe highly paid and experienced coaching staff who see his abilities and skills every day dont actually know what theyre doing...
He played how many minutes?

Ok great.

Then going into next year Cockatoo has 5 games under his belt and no real experience in high pressure matches instead of having 10 or so games with some big matches and perhaps a final or two. We've also got the freedom to teach him a few things about his game like giving him some experience in defence knowing that it's not going to cost us a premiership. Next year he works his way into the team in a year where we think we can win it (hello Dangerfield, Henderson, etc). Early in the year he fumbles in some big moments costing us a game.

Is he more likely or less likely to make those fumbles during game 6 or game 15? Will he be better off next time he's 1 on 1 in defence for his experience last week (when you can guarantee a few players would've talked to him about it at half time and during the game about how he approached the contest with Heeney).

All we're doing right now is fast-tracking development of our youngest players so they're up to speed when we're competing again. GHS has already had a few years to learn those things and there's much less to be gained by giving him games now than Cockatoo.
I understand your logic, but at some point there's got to be a limit where you just have to play the guy who's clearly in better form than the other. Perhaps you don't agree that GHS has been that much better than, say, Cockatoo or even Stokes to warrant playing him. I say he has been performing well enough in the VFL that he deserves more than a 15 minute run as a sub before he's dropped. What mire can the guy do? I don't think he deserves to be the sacrificial lamb, at least on this occasion.

Is there any chance of us playing an almighty tight tag on Mitchell?
I can't remember the last time he didn't have an influence on these games
It's possible that GHS could do this. I seem to remember he did a reasonable job on Kennedy against Sydney a year or two back. He could at least keep up with Mitchell.
Plus I feel that GHS is a little direcectionless ATM. Perhaps run-with could be his go?

My feeling is that it can't be too serious. He was named in the side on Thursday evening, so at that point he was still a chance. So it's quite likely that he was close but didn't quite come up.
Alternatively, he could have done something today....
I was wondering why they didn't leave him into the 'late change' tomorrow. What difference would it make- well, apart from releasing the news early gives Clucko another 24 hours to get his homework done.

You may or may not be aware of this SC, but H-S is now in the team to play the Hawks on Saturday night.

I'm not sure how many minutes but it was 14% game time.
Okay. Multiply that percentage of game time by six, you get 84 percent. If you multiply his four posessions by six you get 24 posessions. If he played 84 percent game time, which I'd guess would be average for an AFL mid, with an output of mid-20s then people would be saying that he had a reasonable match.
