Autopsy Round 23, 2021: Hawks draw with Tigers - end of an era!

I doubt the players and coaches will be as scathing or as emotional as some of the posters here.

They put the cue in the rack after a pretty difficult month of footy. Might have been inevitable that we fell away at some point.
We've had last quarter fade outs in both the Brisbane and Collingwood game.

We need to move on from tob, has too many of these games where he is a complete liability. It’s billy hartung all over again. We’ve got a few young keys on the list, give them a go, couldn’t possibly be as disappointing as tob has been for the last 10 years
DGB Jiath and Sicily will be ahead of TOB next year, and he’s days playing forward are over

They weren't playing for 4 points, they were playing for their brothers and champions of our club.

Yeah, it's pretty damn disappointing result from where we were positioned with 5 minutes to go.
Exactly, and I saw a few guys that were clearly thinking more of themselves, imagine giving the umpire a spray and the opposition a free goal after you randomly run like 30 metres for example, this wasn't about the individual. That was the disappointing part for me, I've rarely seen signs that the team is really dedicated to each other.

It just feels so awkward watching Burgoyne and Clarko be the ones walking away from the game after that, it would have been a struggle to pull 4 guys together that deserved to chair them off. Just my opinion. I didn't give a shit about the 4 points or about our draft position, this isn't Melbourne.

Don’t read too much into the result. Obviously frustrating we didn’t get the win for Clarko and Silk, but we simply had an off day. Last few weeks have shown we are capable of shooting up the ladder next season.

Don’t wanna hear any BS about Richmond fielding their B side either, just simply take a look at our injury list…

Frustrated yes, but very excited for next season and the draft.

Can we retire O’Brien too?

Interesting to see if O'Brien is around next year with the emergence of Jiath and Denver; with Sicily and Impey to return down back?

Up forward you have Kos and Lewis starting to gel and Callow to come hopefully.

Sadly for O'B I think he may have played his last game for the Hawks, as takes the odd specky every five games and does a couple of nice things but just not consistent enough.

TOB has had a brilliant block of footy in defense but boy he was bad today.

Astbury and Houli seem like really great blokes. Disappointed we didn't get the job done but this was a momentous game symbolically. Two eras ending and a draw does seem fitting.

Onwards to 2022 and Sam's HFC. Exciting off-season ahead!

I genuinely think TOB and Scrim played their worst games for the club today- both had many actions that lead directly to richmond goals. Hopefully it's a big learning experience

Yep Scrim was dreadful too, but it is what it is. Plenty to work with and plenty to learn

I Couldn't think of a more fitting way to finish the most putrid of seasons.
From the top (rebuild on hold week after week, poor team selection) to the bottom (senior players picked over kids) sending off two hawk legends with an almighty choke.

Hopefully Sam disagrees with the majority on here, trades out the has-beens and actually commits and sticks to the rebuild.

We're going to lose a draft pick for what happened here. That was a blinking red light to the AFL integrity unit to come down hard on us.
So what you’re suggesting is every Hawk player out there suddenly agreed to shaft two of the most celebrated, legendary names in our club history – all for the possibility of jumping ahead one spot in the draft.

After a month of football where we’ve shown huge heart and played ourselves out of the first four picks.

We’ve got a flat earth to sell you next, TP86.

100% , thought we looked tired and a bit listless most of the match .
I think the effort physically and mentally over a month took a bit of a toll.

Disappointing end to the game ,Clarko and Burgoyne deserved better. Thought the game was very sloppy we just couldn't link together today...too much stop and go. TOB didn't help himself today after a few good games and bang back to his usual that cost us goals.

Once again thanks and all the best for Alistair and Shaun in their next chapter of life.
