Autopsy Round 23, 2021: Hawks draw with Tigers - end of an era!

People are complaining about the midfield and the mix. We get in 2 mids this draft, lets say it's Erasmus, Goater or whoever with Clarke or whatever. Just class to go with Worps, Jaeger, Mitch and Wingers.

We did really well last week no doubt but our mids this week weren't even bad, yes the Tigers had a shocking midfield but we still comfortably beat them and were basically running mostly in 2nd gear all day barring 1st gear patches.

Biggest issue i saw today was merely our intensity.

Titch had 36 disposals 14 kicks 22 handballs
10 contested at 83% DE
5 score involvements
6 marks 300 metres gained
4 clearances
5 tackles
3 inside 50s

Had a good game.

Jaeger 36 disposals 20 kicks 16 handballs
15 contested at 75% DE
2 behind 6 score involvements
7 marks 425 metres gained
6 clearances
5 inside 50s

Worpel 25 disposals 14 kicks 11 handballs
7 contested at 60% (only 5 turnovers and 2 clangers)
5 score involvements
7 marks
377 metres gained
3 inside 50s

And Wingard
30 disposals 15 kicks 15 handballs
11 contested at 63% DE 4 turnovers and 4 clangers
2 goals 2 goal assists and 8 score involvements
377 metres gained
6 clearances
5 tackles
4 inside 50s

They all i thought used the ball well, played well but my main issue was just intensity through tackling and overall pressure. Don't think our defense was good at all but they'll be improved heaps with returning Sicily, Impey, Jiath and Day.

Move some up the ground replace some plodders etc

And then forward like Breust, Moore and Gunston all to come back.

Brocky had a good game his best so far and i was impressed. Thought Lewis was good too.

Plenty to look forward to and personally it's all looking up. Get keen for the draft and off season and into 2022 lads :D
I think today we saw again why Titch, JOM, Wings and Worps doesn’t work. Adding class would be good. But it’s the defensive pressure is so lacking from those guys.

They’ve tried to rectify it with Worps tagging. But we saw at the end when a team gets a run on we just have no defensive pressure around the ball from those guys that teams are able to get a run on against us easily. Especially with the 6-6-6 rule. It’s why we look a lot better with Nash and Duke in the team.

The last centre bounce had Mitch, wings and JOM it was our worst set up for trying to hold a 6 point lead.

Yeah, but 2 of those 7 are unattainable.

Darcy and Daicos may as well be Michael Jordan and Joe DiMaggio, they’re not available to anyone other than Dogs and Pies. Not worth even mentioning them.

We get the 5th best kid ‘in the draft’.

I don't think Darcy factors too much into this given we won't be looking at a KPF - though as both Darcy and Daicos are going to their aligned teams this will likely force a team ahead of us to take a midfielder/player we are keen on.

Last season we were very lucky with landing DGB. That may not happen again.

North last on the ladder but only get the 3rd best player :drunk:

You‘re right it’s all relative
You beat me to it.

All those who wanted us to finish last...why?

Oh noes, we only get the 3rd best player if we finish last!

Those two players, Daicos and Darcy have not once entered my thinking about who might take...ever. I dare say they have never entered the heads of anyone here as players we might end up with. It has always been Callaghan, Horne, Sinn, Sonsie, Hobbs, Erasmus, etc etc

Why they have now become a reason to mope about our pick 5 is beyond me.

I think Sam is going to make some changes - and it wouldn’t surprise me if we go backwards to move forwards next season. There’s a few players who’ve been around long enough that we know what we’re going to get, and while some of them will stay, the Cousins of the world you’d think would be in trouble.

Also Brockman kicked 3 goals, but his defensive efforts were terrible. It’s been the knock on him at Box Hill and I can see him taking a while to get another game next year, especially when Breust/Gunston are back.

Some were, but one goal was directly because of a fantastic tackle and dispossession.

Nash, Newcombe and Chad would have been better.
We have been surprisingly good on the spread when we have had that type of defensive pressure in close. Hopefully next year we put the names aside and pick players positions on balance.

Sad to see Clarkson go. In a perfect world he would coach in another sport for a few years and come back in a support position when Sam has the team humming.

Hope Burgoyne stays on as suggested when he sign this last contract.

His last game coaching our club and you still have to crap on him.
Yep.
There's a lot of stuff that reporters are sitting on that the board also leaked, but told them to hold off on reporting. It's a case of if you knew what it was, then your point of view will be different. There's a reason the board leaked when they've almost always remained tight-lipped. Tid bits of it have been subtlety mentioned in the media and on BF if you know where to look.

All I'll say is, the PR department have had one of their hardest weeks of work this week.

Shiels should be moved on, like we did with, Lewis, Birchall, Hodge and our new coach, Nash and Howe have gone past him, (which I had my doubts on both) with Worpel, Mitchell and O’Meara, don’t see a spot for him
with Impey back next year, like to see Bramble in the Midfield rotations as well as our first pick. Wingard needs to spend more time in the Midfield as well
