Round 24 Team

Rest Marshall & Phillipou, long season for them both for differing reasons & chuck in Hill with a dodgy knee.

I think if there are any players that are genuinely sore or carrying minor injuries eg Hill, rest them. But if players are 95% plus, don't see why you would rest them a week before a week off. That would give someone like Marshall 3 weeks between his last game and the first final. I think that has been shown in the past it is a week too long.

The way to beat lions is with pace and fast ball movement which we have atm look at hawkes and GC and how they beat them

Very different playing with pace and fast ball movement against Cats and Tigers under cover versus Brisbane. Don't think Lions will give Saints anywhere near the room on turnover that we have been getting so will be interesting to see how Saints fast break game and nerve holds up against one of the real contenders.

After watching the full game reply last night which obviously had heaps of positives, we’re not winning anything unless our set shot kicking improves big time. Was incredibly frustrating to see the easy shots missed - again.

We’re not playing the Cats again. Lions will capitalise if we give them that out. Hope there’s plenty goal kicking practice this week.

They have no incentive to win they'll have to play Brisbane at the Gabba if they win.
And if they lose they will likely have to play Lions at the GABBA in a preliminary finals where they won’t get a second chance.

Makes much more sense to go up their first week than it does in a preliminary final

Yeah, not many coaches drop games to manipulate the fixture. You can't flirt with form. Especially with a week bye going into finals.

On goalkicking - we had a bad day. It's been much better this year than in previous years.

It's a funny thing, Melbourne had the best conversion rate, then the worst, then back up to one of the best again. So much has to do with confidence more than anything. We have just played one of our best games and should get a massive boost out of it.

Robert Eddy anyone? I'd be very surprised if RTB rested anyone this week unless they absolutely needed it, IE they're actually injured. You don't flirt with form and team continuity like that, nor should the propest of the momentum a win would give us be discounted. Hoping Hill and Sharman get up, Hunter in for Seb the obvious with Billings sub perhaps. The likes of Hayes and Coffield it's great to have as backup, but at this stage of the year, heading into the last game of regular season with a home final up for grabs and just finding some form, spark and cohesion -- backups is all they are I'm afraid!

Got banned for several weeks for trolling on the Blues board btw, you kind of go into 'reading not posting' mode after a stint on the sidelines... Absolutely stoked (but not overly surprised) we've turned the corner though, and it's been a lot of little tweaks and a huge focus on the midfield output which has done it.

Other musings, there's no chance Pou gets dropped at all, they've clearly backed the kid in. That goal of his vs Geelong was pure clutch and not to mention he ran the field. Roma is our talisman. NAS, Windy, Sharman, things are looking up! Cordy replacing Howard = significantly pleasing.

Huh, is that true?

If Melbourne win and Sydney stay on 50 points, GWS could win and beat us on percentage right?

Therefore we’d finish 7th and not have a home final.

Maybe I’m missing something, I’m not used to being in finals

Correct. We could miss a home final as you have suggested if the Giants jump us on percentage. Think the biggest chance of that happening is if we get smashed by Brisbane. Can't see the Giants beating Carlton easily, if at all.

As a hypothetical, If you keep it under 2 goals against Brisbane, GWS would need to beat Carlton by 7 goals to jump us.

For context, our losses this season have been by 6, 7, 52, 10, 20, 28, 21, 26 and 19. Something more than 5 goals would appear unlikely.

Jack Hayes could be the Jimmy Gwilt of this years finals series for us.

Played a ripping first final against Adelaide in 2005. After debuting against Brisbane in the final round….

Melb won’t win they already making up story’s of how the team is all sick, they will lose on purpose to play pies at mcg book mark it

If Seb Ross is the only out this week, & they want like for like. Paton played inside mid & went alright for Sandy. Whereas Byrnes & Bytel were quiet.
So Clark comes into the 22 & Paton gets super sub.
