It's funny with Hayes. I didn't think he was that brilliant but just knows where to be at just the right time. I guess that's a talent in itself. I do like him though. He's got real finals experience in a side that doesn't have much of it on the books. He was a leader in his SANFL sides and a big game player. He's still firing on three cylinders at the moment.

If we can get him in for some finals games he could be a real wildcard for us. he won the Oatley (SANFL Norm Smith) in a landslide in a GF with 26 possessions, 7 clearances and 1.2 playing with a fractured leg that stopped him training before the match. He's the type of fairytale player like a Stewie Dew who comes in and makes history.
Yeah I’m with you. Knowing what to do and where to be is massive in any side let alone an RTB side. He has very strong hands and a straight kick for goal and can fill the 2nd ruck spot perfectly. If fit (but perhaps he doesn’t even need to be), he’s a very likely type to come in.

Could you play a forward line of:?

Phillipou Hayes Butler
Membrey King Higgins

Int: Sharman Owens Gresham

Probably.

Would love to see Billings still with his I50 kicks and don’t see many paths in for him except for Gresham or Phillipou who you would think hold their spots now.

I wouldn't mind seeing these outs:
Ross - injured
Hill - knee rest
Wood - shoulder/general rest
Owens - goes hard, don't want him hurting himself this week

The Hayes ship has sailed for this year IMO. There’s no way you’re messing with King-Membrey-Sharman ATM when our attack is looking the best it has since the early rounds. Not the time for experimenting.

In: Clark

Out: Ross

Byrnes sub.

No resting. We’ve got a bye next week.

I don't know if what I'm suggesting would work at all. Just throwing out ideas, but just for s*it's and giggles here we go 🤔
We've proven that our forward line can function okay without Max. Hayes has a presence up forward...and I'd like to see him have a run in a real game.
Ro is obviously much harder to cover, and is in great touch, but it would be great to have him fresh and rested for finals. Campbell is capable without being brilliant.
Wood, I'm reluctant to rest at all...but was just spitballing, in a similar position to Ro in that I think a game out might make him better for finals. I don't think we have any cover for him though.
I want to win every game, because I want to win...but want to win finals more.
Unless a player is so sore they cant get out of bed i wouldn't be giving guys two weeks off , we have seen a lot of teams who struggle after a bye to get going let alone two weeks off

My only issue with bringing Hayes in - given Brisbane’s speed and nature if the Gabba - I think we’d want to balance off with some more speed / run elsewhere.

Do agree on Billings. Watching him in the VFL on the weekend, he’s just so far above the level. Just lacking that same hurt factor that he possessed early. While it was “only” 24 touches, he was playing the HF role and not on ball, so he’s pretty influential.

I like Byrnes for this game. Maybe even straight in for his tank and run. Horses for courses. Just not sure who would go out.

Good man!! Anyone hobbling, no-showing or being obviously nursed through a light week on the track?
No players yet, Van Es in a Moonboot.
Will let you know

Being entertained by Tame Impala blasting from the Cafe though.

Hey Joffaboy - any chance that out late mid-season "slump" was a result of a training "load up" during that period ?
They are looking much fitter and fresher now than they were 6 - 10 weeks ago.
Didn't see training mid season, can say biggest group in full training I have see all year. I think personnel has a lot to do with it.
Very very vocal. Last time I saw them this vocal was before the Carlton game

Ross running laps with Jones, would confirm minor hammy.

Doogs in full training with fluoro cap on.

DMAC in full training

Good news about Ross - I had a feeling it wasn't too bad. His body language when he iced it on the bench suggested he wasn't too concerned.

He and Jones were with the trainer on the far side at the end of their session. Trainer talking up Jones, as he must have been sore, saying he will have some medication, and a couple of days rest, telling him he has plenty of time. Seb chimed in with encouragement as well.
We forget how disappointed and desperate these players are to get on the field, especially someone like Jones who has been dogged by injury.
