52 points on ladder and we miss
Unbelievable

Yeah incredibly frustrating

When you eyeball the “coulda woulda shoulda” results we could have easily been Top 4

  • Beat Essendon (first game)
  • Beat Freo
  • Beat St.Kilda
  • Beat Gold Coast
  • Beat Dogs
  • Beat Sydney

  • Lose to North
  • Lose to Carlton (2nd game)

16 wins. 64 points and comfortable Top 4

Painful to think about

Sydney loss was especially costly in the end. Had them and let it go.

Biggest issue was the 4 losses in a row after the bye. Just never seemed likely after that. We’ve actually exceeded my expectations to beat Carlton, Brisbane and Melbourne out of the last 4 games.
Should've beaten Sydney too

The Good

3 votes- N.Daicos
Ed Allan looks really good, pump as much centre bounce minutes as possible.
Richards so clean
Josh's best game
Cameron solidifying top 2 Copeland finish.
Lippa great finishing, still treacle slow

The Bad

Should of won by more
Schultz returned to a potato
Realisation we ****ed ourselves coughing up that 5 goal lead to Swans
Having to listen to Hodge commentate our last game

Well, that’s that. Good to close the season with a win, but all in all, a disappointing year.

We’ve got some solid building blocks and hopefully an orderly transition from the old guard into our up and coming talent. Bring on 2025, go Pies!

Actually shocked that Dixon and Brereton are talking sense about the Pickett incident.

They're spot on. Moore goes for the ball and Pickett deliberately bumps. It's irrelevant if Moore lowers his body.

Nice to end season with a Win but Felt more like a Exhibition/Practise Game

The 2 big positives where Allan and Parker as played main part in our win and both have very Bright Future at Collinwood

Nice to finish off with a win. Magpie Army are amazing. Allan and Parker showed a lot. Reckon we’ll be super motivated to hit back hard next year. A bit bizarre that we may have a couple of teams that lost more games than us finishing above us.
Best wishes to all you people here and look forward to the trade/draft/pre season.
Shout out to Jen1234 and the other training watchers and Ponsford Magpie and all the mods for their contributions.
Go Pies 2025!!!!

I said at the start of this season that I hoped we’d start to manage the older player transition and we kinda didn’t.

We really need to next year

I wish we’d start using the invaluable knowledge and experience they have to start guiding the kids in the VFL and it adds the side benefit of managing the older players through the season

He's the fittest bloke at our club.
A few on here have said Ed hasn’t developed and will be a bust.
Tonight put those fears to rest.
I’m excited about how good he could become.
It was expected that West Coast would draft him but they overlooked him and we snapped him up. It may end up a big mistake for the Weagles.

Anti climactic. Was a blue moon shot game was a dead rubber and played like one. But a wins a win.
Those 2 slumps (3 and 4 row losses only 2 others in 16 games) very costly. Just couldn't snap them quick enough.
Best footy was as good as anyone. Unlucky in a couple of games but lucky in others.
Unlucky as 52 points usually nails a spot but not to be.
Still a enjoyable year roll on 2025

I really can't abide Gawn automatically being named All Australian ruck. Darcy has had such a the consistent, top notch season and he won the points over Max tonight with 2 goals. -

I guess Gawn's reputation over many seasons winss out with the commentators.

Anyway, for what it's worth, surely Darcy will finish top 5 in the Copeland 😉

I feel strangely contented.
Our season has ended, but we have been cruelled by the vagaries of an injury crisis

Yet we have demonstrated in the last few weeks that the passion still burns, and the will to win still dominates our team's mindset - we never lost it, in the final analysis. It was the disruption of never ending injuries to key players at the same time which proved in the end too difficult a barrier for maintaining cohesion and continuity.

This game also established that our development and training of our young players is where it should be.
Ed Allan came into this game looking like he was primed for success.
Will Parker also looked like he was fully ready for the occasion. Will has been eased in slowly, first as sub, and then - as our coaches have seen fit - given the opportunity for full games. I think his game tonight is testimony to the accuracy of the process linking our VFL development program to AFL readiness.

Sidey has demonstrated over the last few games that he will be a great asset for us in 2025. His preseason will be focussed on the tagging role that he can clearly offer now.

As others have said, it has been a season without finals, but a season still to be remembered for the fighting spirit and the ability to deal with adversity that we have shown throughout the year

Go Pies.!!

Ah well, that's all she wrote.

Been a frustrating season but still had some fun highlights. At least I can sit back, relax and enjoy watching the finals now (as long as Carlton don't get anywhere near the GF).

All the best fellow Pies fans. See you all in 2025!
I won’t watch Finals

Watch AFLW instead

Good end to a season unlike anything we've seen in our 127 year history for us.

From winning a flag to the Schultz trade, Opening Round, 0-3 start, draws vs Essendon and Freo, 2 wins over Carlton, Brisbane and Melbourne, Wrighty leaves ending with a lightning delayed win over Melbourne.

The good …

  • The win. Good way to finish off the season.
  • Kudos to the Collingwood fans who stuck around. Even got the chant up after resumption of play.
  • The Daicoses were in everything
  • Ed Allan’s game - 10 Contested possessions, 21 disposals, 1 goal, 1 mark, 6 tackles. Played a full game.
  • Will Parker’s game - 9 Contested possessions, 17 disposals, 1 goal, 4 marks, 5 tackles. Played a full game.
  • Richards did OK. I really hope he stays. But if he doesn’t I hope we get something decent for him.
  • We’ll go into the off-season in decent health.

The bad …

  • Kicking for goal. In retrospect we should have easily won that by 100+
  • The commentary was dreadful.

The ugly …

* Pickett will get pinged.

I still think we can beat anybody at our best.
Yes, I do too.
The issue for us this year was that it was impossible to achieve our best consistently enough due to the massive injury crisis that engulfed us during a significant slab of the season.

Despite what anyone says (the mantra that one soldier comes in to replace another in the same role), it has to be acknowledged that one soldier mechanically replacing another is totally untrue.

Otherwise, why would you bother about trying to get top talent into your team?

Our structure and mindset stood up well in the injury crisis, but in the end, the tidal wave of key players out simultaneously who could not simply be replaced, overcame us.

Go forward to 2025 with hope, and confidence.

Think our coaches did very well this year.

Easy relaxing win. Disappointment kinda hit after the siren that we won’t be playing finals even though I really had accepted that we won’t make it after the hawks lost. Will feel a bit empty watching the finals but at least we have last year to remember.

Also fair play to the fans in a dead rubber game. Don’t blame anybody that left with the rain delay however fair credit to those that stayed. Atmosphere was really good until the end.

Well Done to Melbourne fans as well, once again getting drowned out with the booes. Enjoy the snow😂
