Does he? He averages .6 more marks per game than Reeves, Reeves who was coming back from a shoulder injury which restricted his marking.

Lynch average a whooping .3% one percenters last year compared to Reeves 4, I just don't see this Lynch is better round the ground.

Are those Reeves stats from this year or last year? 2022 Reeves vs 2023 Reeves just look like two completely different players at the moment.

I'm also not saying the swap has to be made. But I understand why some fans are suggesting it.

I know LDU has been tearing it up but he is a centre-square inside ball-winning machine and Finn (when tagging) usually starts off half-forward and runs to his man after the CB. This would seem to be a bit of a waste for a player like LDU who torches you with centre clearances.

Call me crazy but I think there is a chance that Sam could send Finn to the 3rd gamer! Mess up their transition ball movement game and make sure it is in the hands of blokes like Howe who can just kick it back to us.

Exactly what I was thinking. LDU is awesome, but he does his best work around stoppages and the way Mitchell is using Finn means LDU will get plenty of chances to hurt us.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Love a great fence sitting post. ;)

I'm all for leaving Reeves in. This will be game number 20 for him, also the 3rd game back after injury ended his 2022 season. (i think)

He's a 19 game player in a bottom team. Patience required.

B Sicily Blancke Impey
HB Jiath DGB Scrimshaw
C Day Worpel Amon
HF Moore Kozi McDonald
F Bruest Greene Brockman
FOLL- Meek Ward Newcombe
I/C- McKenzie, Magginness, Bramble, Lynch
Sub- Long
Hardwick, Morrison and Wingard prob all play this week… get the feeling Reeves is playing sore.. so Lynch a chance…

Reckon Brockman is close but misses - Bramble, Impey and Finn all in the gun

Frost for DGB
Impey for Morrison
Nash for Wingard
Bramble for Scrimshaw

Reeves if sore for Lynch
Finn survives to tag LDU

Has to be some personnel changes after Sunday. For mine, Finn either tags or doesn’t play and we can’t really afford him in that role at the moment. Meek plays as the solo ruck with Frost giving a chop out. Bramble probably just did enough in the second to stay but not sure I’d have both CJ and Impey in

DGB Blanck Dimma
Amon Sicily Scrim
Day Worpel Ward
Moore Frost CMac
Butler Greene Bruest
Meek Nash Newk
Bramble Frenchie Impey Brockman
Sub: Morrison

Ins: Morrison Brockman DGB Scrim
Outs: Kosi CJ Finn Reeves

I doubt this will resemble the final side but I’d like to see Frost up forward. At least he will hit some bodies and chase and tackle.

As much as I'd like to see some changes, our problem right now is just a pure disconnect from each line with each other. Our forwards are currently a mess, there's little structure and often they are getting in each other's way or pushing up the ground way too far so the hack kick forward just floats over our head and then rebounded easily.

Having seen a bit of the vision in the preseason, Lewis being part of our forward line would fix a lot of these problems as he has really stood up as a vocal leader which we are lacking. Breust is trying to help organise the forwards but the key position players are usually a better leader as they are not often on the move and more central on he ground.

Brockman and Long should be at the front of the queue for game time this week, Long would take Finn's spot if we opt to drop the idea of a tag, not sure on who goes out for Brocky.

Scrimshaw could come back in which would free up Hardwick to start forward if we wanted to try that more permanently.

We've got a solid young team of talent.
I expect us to get wins at some point but it's not coming together yet for whatever reason.
Need a good showing or morale could be difficult to recover.

I often see Ben Cunningham when I do my kids school pick up (his kids go to the same school) and I am always struck by how much he looks like an old fashioned country footy player, the dude is as wide as he is tall!

Still he has a habit of giving the Hawks a right old touch up, maybe I should tell him to go easy on us this weekend 😉

Haven't caught up on the autopsy but was at the SCG - Day, Moore and Nash can hold their heads high. CJ looked lost and we are absolutely crying out for on field leadership. It was quiet out there (...could hear my tears).
Yeah you're right.. Moorey and Day cracked in hard. I was still a bit sore after the loss

I think the question with Finn is whether a team at our stage of development actually needs a tagger?

Or whether its more a case of all hands on deck in the middle with players that can win the ball and provide some offense (which we are sadly lacking).

I see Finn as a final piece in a jigsaw in a contending team that has specific opponents in mind that they need to overcome to win a flag.

Whereas we are just trying to win full stop!
Maybe the more he locks down a ball winner for them it opens up opportunity for our blokes via clearance or turnover. If he creates space for Duke, Daysy or worps to have first crack at the footy and build confidence, I'm all for Finn playing every week

Interesting stat from last weekend , North the 8th most experienced side .
Clarko really using the experienced big bodies he has bought in as expected

North spinning their wheels

It's so hard to know who goes out this week. A lot of senior players out of form, a disfunctional forward line and a structure that doesn't seem to be working.

Based on the VFL write up across Hawks socials, Brockman, DGB, Long, Mitchell and even Ramsden are in line.
I feel Ramsden plays VFL until he can debut with Lewis in the side. Mitchell probably needs to string it together for 2-3 weeks.

Taking everything into consideration, I wouldn't mind seeing us line up as follows;

FB: DGB - Blanck - Hardwick
HB: Jiath - Sicily - Impey

MID: Reeves - Ward - Worpel
MID: Day - Newcombe - Amon

HF: Moore - Greene - Wingard
FF: Breust - Kozchitske - Brockman

INT: Meek - Mackenzie - Macdonald - Maginness
SUB: Nash (think he's the ideal sub as he can play anywhere on the ground and has the physicality to make an impact)

That means;
Wingard + DGB + Brockman
Bramble + Frost + Butler

Jiath and Impey both very lucky, and if form continues they'll both be out for Morrison and Scrimshaw.

The majority of our list are young kids, but there's definitely a couple very experienced guys at the top;

Todd Goldstein; 34 years old, 296 games
Jack Ziebell; 32 years old, 260 games
Liam Shiels; 31 years old, 257 games
Ben Cunnington; 31 years old, 231 games

Fully acknowledge this is a pointless 'captain obvious' statement to make, but you take those 4 guys out and our list would be one of the least experienced in the this year.

Absolutely . Was just an interesting stat but makes sense with how Clarko coaches .

And its so good seeing Cunnington out there as an aside . Great story and fella .

We have a few structural issues to fix

1. Our defensive structure and our team defense is weak as shit, if the opposition have a decent tall forw they can either find a mile of space or out wrestle any of our defenders especially if Jiath or Impey find themselves on someone because ******* Frost is trying to get a cheapy somewhere, btw the last person you want the ball in their hands is FROST

2. We are going backwards and sideways again, how have we devolved into going backwards and sideways again? Come the fk on

3. We're not playing on which kept us competitive last year, even though our pressure and defense went to shit, we were I think the number 1 play on team, now we chip around, mostly backwards and sideways because they have no confidence in the game plan or each other

4. Turnover or loose poss from going backwards and putting each other under pressure or just shit kicking from the same culprits

5. We need forwards who can keep the ball from rebounding out of our forwardline so fast it seems like it's never in our i50

Fix these issues pronto ffs, remove thumbs out of arse because this is getting embarrassing

If we continue to train soft footy, we're going to continue playing soft footy, this is bullshit

I don't care who plays it's irrelevant, this team has many structural issues that no one seems to be doing anything about, 3/4 games this year so far have been terrible, get better ffs
