No we shouldn't. Campbell offers nothing other than a tap ruckman. He's slow, can't transition on the fast plays and would be a liability at AFL level.

Wonderful 2s player and coach. Not an AFL player
Yep and Goldy is lining up for the Stawell Gift tomorrow.

Marshall was overwhelmed by the physicality of contesting against both Goldstein and Draper.

And Owens was totally ineffective in his stints in the ruck.

Doesn't matter - if he wasn't selected for yesterday's game, the only time he will get a game is when Marshall is injured.

Campbell is absolutely not the answer but its a significant list hole the club needs to address ASAP. If Hayes ever gets going he will help, but Im hoping the club can scout a player to bring in at the MSD or trade in later in the year. Marshall was brilliant in the first half, but competing against two big bodies wore him down in the second half.

Its just another example of how poor our list management had been before the latest list management team. Yes they tried to get other ruckman out of clubs eg Draper, De Koning, Xerri etc but when they didnt they should have drafted a couple of decent kids who could be nearly ready now. Instead they just buried their head in the sand and prayed Ryder could play forever.

THE TIPPING POINT?

Yesterday we played 7 young players who we had picked up in the last 3 years. That is a lot of youth. On the plus side that is good for the future.

On the negative side history suggests that teams with a lot of younger players struggle to wins games, and also tend to run very hot and cold. That is bad for this season's fortunes if it continues. And our current spate of injuries do not seem to to be abating. Players return, but then other go. We may have again lost a player or two after yesterday's game.

Compounding this is that a number of our established players have come back into the team after pre-seasons with no match play, or even enough competitive work, to hone their skills. ie Sinclair, Butler and Jones. Sincs is getting better, but at present is not the silky player that we are used to.

Injuries and suspensions have combined to create this situation. Henry in particular was a cruel loss as he had added a dimension to our team that we lacked.

This all came to a head yesterday when make no bones about it, we lost to an ordinary team. And we played terribly in many aspects of the game. When players have other good players around them, the standard tends to go up. Confidence increases and the little things get done well. But when your core is too thin, the reverse happens.

This week I think we just reached that Tipping Point when the above factors just combined to allow cracks to open, that got wider as the game progressed.

The worry is now is that not much is likely to change for another 4- 8 weeks or so as core of players are still out for that long, and then they will need to find match touch.

In that period there are games that are must wins, and they now will be a harder task. Other games you also need if you want to play finals. The upcoming 6-8 weeks will determine whether we have a hance of making finals or not. At 1;3 it is certainly not over yet, but in this upcoming period we will be fielding teams well off our best.

We will be taking on all of GWS, Dogs and Port with still very undermanned teams. Dogs was a game preseason I would have been confident about. The other two games could get ugly for us.

It is backs to the wall time. Now yes Sincs and Butler will get better. But we are in the main only going to slowly be able to re-introduce good players into the team, and the majority are going to be underdone when they come back in. King the exception.

PS Yesterday we were truly horrid. I don't expect that in most games we will overall be that poor again. But geeze against GWS it could be grim.

To all the injectors shadow liking posts in here enjoy year 21

I don't think there was really a lot of joy for Dons in their win yesterday. . The reality is they barely scraped in against a very young and undermanned St Kilda, who then also played very poorly.

Wins are always nice, but that game indicates that they will struggle this year. As will we if we stay this way.

TC absolutely murdered Goldie in the practice game so it's a reasonable idea that he might have offered us something.

Nah not really. The popular vote for captain means very little - 80% of the players will just vote for the incumbent because they don’t want to rock the boat, and most of them have never been captained by anyone except Jack and Gears.

I love Jack and he clearly means well but it’s not clear to me that he’s a great captain.
This is exactly what I think is one of the main issues. Gears, was a guy that carved out a career on pure effort in a very mediocre and unsuccessful side. Without wanting to be rude, how many of us have given one thought about him since he retired? Now, contrast that with Roo & guys like Lenny or Goddard? .these guys had TRUE standards. Yes, two of them are now coaches, but as another poster said, coaches can't run out there on the park. This is why the captain is important. Steele is good, and was by far our best player during that god awful period where we couldn't do a damn thing right (that was until Sinc's stepped up) unfortunately he represents a time where it was easy to be a bit of a passenger and get away with it. I don't mean to be disparaging, but I just don't think the killer instinct is there. We need someone that wants to win good, bad, and ugly, and drag the kids through the shite in order to get it. This is what a true leader brings to the table.
I am yet to see this in Steele.

IIRC we were the youngest side in roumd 1.
Since then we've lost
Crouch 30,
Maso 30,
King 23,
Henry 22,

Replaced by

Jones 29,
Sincs, 29
Butts 27,
Hammer 20,

So were we also the youngest team to play this round??

Close to it - norf, freo and west coast had younger squads.

Probably not a good time to start eating our own. This will be a tough time ahead

The judgement of good captaincy and leadership is perhaps one of the most overrated , irrelevant and impossible to quantify things.

It’s so subjective, no way to ever know if it’s the club culture or the leader.

All this focus on Bonner's 17 turnovers. He actually made 6 critical errors (Marshall team high with 14). Ok, so not Bonner's best game perhaps, but if everyone else is saying "here, you kick it", especially when Bonner himself is under pressure and there is nothing on, that might be expected.

Sent from my SM-S711B using Tapatalk
but there were things on. things were on!

Less Bonner exiting the defensive 50 and more Sinclair existing the defensive 50 please.
I have no idea what happened with Windy today he just couldn’t get near it.
Really missed the extra grunt Crouch would’ve provided he’s a big loss.
Super impressed with Seb Ross today best game he’s played for a long time.
Keep pumping the games into the kids, sure there will be frustrating times but we will get better.
I would be a much happier person if I could stop watching football but I can’t so here I am disappointed again and living in hope that next week will be a better result.
So Right Saints4ever i just care too much the last 3 quaters were like being in footy torture chamber

Agree. Hate sinking the boots in but, shite that’s ununacceptable
Perhaps we believed in our publicity too much & too soon after the Collingwood game.

This St Kilda team has done virtually NOTHING of note yet!

Yes we are faster.
Where was the run & carry however in the last quarter when we needed it?

It breaks my heart to support this club sometimes.
💔
