Good post.
I am going to look at some negatives however.
St Kilda FC has been around since 1873. Eleven years before my grandfather was born, in 1884.
This was before the invention of the motor vehicle and aeroplane.
It was many years before the Boer War, the Great War and Second World Wars.
The list goes on and on.

Sadly we have won one day premiership only since our inception, by one point only.

From a personal point of view I have watched the saints live on well over 500, perhaps 600 occasions. I have never once seen a premiership live as I was unable to attend in 1966.

On this Easter day I reflect on many false dawns. We have often looked promising but never seem to really deliver.

Is this current crop of players likely to be as good as Gehrig, Riewoldt, Kosi, Harvey, Milney, Max Hughton, Hamill, Goddard, Dal Santo, Clarke, Goose and the like?

How many premierships did these players enjoy, or countless other guns such as Plugger, Nicky W, Burke, Loewe etc?

None sadly...
I of course hope that a new generation of stars delivers us a much needed second flag.

Unfortunately many of us will not see this if history is to guide us.

Mate we all feel the pain. We all live it. We all know the story and history, the good and obviously the bad.

But it’s still the best and greatest club in Footy and I’m sure as hell hanging around as long as it takes to be apart of the greatest premiership the game has ever seen.

Can’t see how windy can get off that. Lucky its only a week to be fair. Whether you like it or not, he bumped a person with their head over the ball and caused a concussion.

Looked more like bracing for contact than going for a bump. But since the MRP literally just make it up as they go along I wonder whether we bother to challenge at this point in time.

Need to see a different angle and whether or not he changed his line. If he stays straight at Durham then yeah its a week. But if he genuinely tries to avoid contact, after getting nudged in that direction, you have to appeal.

Totally agree.

I reckon it's normal to be angry with someone / something that you love deeply.
I am truly happy that younger supporters express this passion and anger too.

I have felt far more angry in the past than I am now with the saints. Being defeated by the bombers for example, always hurts.

I have also felt angry on many occasions with my missus over the decades but we are still together and strangely in love I guess.

Strength through loyalty!

Despite the pain and anger that comes with the territory, you are right. For us it will be the greatest premiership the game has ever seen...

You can see at the point of the slight push that Windy kinda half steps, it obviously unbalances him and he "hops" kinda, so I don't see how it's anything but trying to avoid and not an actual bump in the sense they think it is. How they can cite that as careless assuming it's not reasonable for him to contest that ball or turn to avoid contact is kinda bullshit.

The example in the '23 doc is with a mark but cites slowing momentum as much as reasonably possible to avoid contact, so in MC grading this as careless he's essentially saying Windy breached his duty of care, when in reality, loose ball get, 2nd to, got a little push from behind, turned to try and avoid a collision front on.

I really only see it as his only options being;
  • Not to contest in the beginning.
  • Stand tall and have a head lined up with his groin.
  • Get low, cause a head clash.
  • Actually bump and do not arrest momentum.
So I don't see what else he could have done really without screwing over multiple people including himself. I mean, what's reasonable in that case with two players approaching a loose ball from different directions?

It's Long v Darcy all over again where someone is standing coming in on a loose ball and someone leads with their face and gets collected.

Did he cause a concussion?

He stayed on the field for about 30 more minutes and the Essendon doctors didn't assess him. Just as likely Seb's tackled his head hitting Sharman knee on the way through caused it.

Obviously the doctors didn’t feel it necessary to assess him after they looked at the vision.
How can he then possibly be cited, when they weren’t even concerned?

Windy 1 week … unfortunately hip to head no matter the circumstances would be the lightest penalty.

Slowed the video & got this, a bit blurry but more of a brace by Windhager instead of going for the ball.

Probably already posted but Bonner's turnovers was the most by an individual player since 2012.

Genuine curiosity, what was the talk around why the club brought Bonner in?

From what I've seen of him at Port he's just a very average player...his kicking can look good in a highlight compilation but isn't consistent, not the best decision maker and isn't exactly the toughest type of player.

Just backup imo. RTB said in the press conference this week that they were conscious they let a bit of experience go last year, so I imagine they were thinking "we better have someone used to AFL level just in case". Unfortunately "just in case" has popped up a lot earlier than any of us hoped.

I’ve watched this in slow mo, and to me it looks like Windy pivots to protect the drop zone of the ball, there’s incidental contact as he does. I just don’t know there’s much else he can do, besides pulling out all together which really isn’t a realistic option for players at real time, with alternatives being:

- hit him straight on and shirtfront (likely to cause injury/whiplash, if not more head contact)

- slide in below the knees and give away a free kick (potential for injury)

- dive over the ball head first, knock himself out in the process

It’s also a little odd Essendon player plays on, querying their duty of care and whether this even caused the concussion in the first place. All of this said, I think Windy gets the 1 week.

Do we even want to appeal with our legal council of Dennis Denuto?

Well you see, we got rid of Gresh so we obviously needed another legit turnover shanker.
