Your style will stack up in September as it did us for years, Geelong will not. That last quarter was kids being tired. Once the fitness comes, you close out those games.
The way we play is like Richmond on steroids, it's just not a sustainable way to play no matter the fitness levels. McRae needs to add more layers to his coaching, forward at all costs isn't always the right way to play in every situation.

I dont think I ever witnessed Buckley's Collingwood lose after being 36 points up in the 4th, I also don't think its happened in the AFL for a very long time. That was just a deplorable effort imo.

Edit: A lot of other posters are pointing out the same thing, we play too kamikaze to sustain for 4 quarters.

It was won.

Inconceivable result.

Frenetic/get it forward at all costs football is great fun until you need to slow the game down.

The problem was that we could barely even get out hands on the ball.

They were throwing themselves at every contest and running on top of the ground. Our lads looked cooked and when we did get it we just had no time = fumble

I’ll take our current coach‘s game plan over the previous any day of the week.

Our youngsters lost their composure in Q4 and our experienced leaders didn’t do enough to steady the ship. We over-ran and fumbled the ball, got in each other’s way and our defenders pushed too high up the ground. All the 50-50’s suddenly fell the Cats’ way. It was painful viewing.

A heartbreaking loss for sure but gee we are fun to watch again for the first time in years. Young, fast, skilful and high-scoring - very much like our 2008-2011 era side.

Tonight’s loss will be the making of this team. They’ll take great confidence from it and the coaching panel will highlight and teach them so much from the painful last quarter.

The future is way brighter than I dared to dream a month ago.

Disappointing result but very encouraging signs. I felt we fell apart at the stoppages at the end and stopped daring to go forward. Probably not helped but running out of legs and losing a hard running rotation. We were also wasteful early on. It could so easily have been a different result.
Let me see , who is the main baby giraffe at the stoppages ? He is such a ******* , we got sucked in by his philosophy of false hope , said it at the time , he is a big piece of merda If only Wrighty was there at the time , or my good self

"Take the game on boys" yeah I don't think that's smart with a big lead Fly. Way too aggressive at the start of the 4th which gave Geelong momentum.

We play such a taxing style of footy that you could see it coming, the players were spent. McRae needs to coach far better than that, he looks a one trick pony Richmond copycat at this stage.
Calm down.

Well that was great and devastating at the same time. Thought Geelong just won more of those 50/50s in the last and we couldn't hold up. Had a few calls go against as well at bad times but overall much happier watching this brand of footy.
Biggest mistake to me was not subbing Tyler for sidey in the last. Could of used the fresh legs in the contest.

Pissed with the loss. But almost kicked a ton again, should be a bottom 8 side, Cats a top 4, hardened and experienced team/players. Pies still young and ran out of puff, trying to play totally new game plan and ran them to 13 points (loss).

Looking forward to Cats making top 4 to get pounded out of the Finals again.

Of course it’s disappointing but it’s important to remember we are largely a very young team and put up a good fight against a team that finished 3rd last year and has played finals for the most of the last decade. We have lots of room for improvement but I think (and hope) we have much to look forward to with this team.
It’s definitely not all doom and gloom. We played three quarters of excellent footy tonight with a young side and with the change from the slow paced zombie footy we were playing previously with one of the youngest and least experienced playing groups in the comp, it shouldn’t be a surprise that we were spent in the final term.

Ultimately what you want to see from this Pies side is mental resilience and a tougher approach towards defending leads against good sides. We have a great group of talent on this list, and we’ll be better for the run 👍🏼
