Round 3 Trades

Hey mate what are your thoughts on Taranto with Hopper coming in for Scully. Do they rotate? Noticed he is named in the forward pocket. I traded him in for Sicily a few days ago, which is obviously sideways, and just reversed it to get Sicily back in. Griffen back soon too. Is Taranto worth trading in do you think? I don't have the option of putting Sicily into defense and want to keep him forward anyhow. I very rarely sideways trade and I'm really stuck on this one!

Taranto has alot of the right qualities in his game to be a tasty SC prospect, the injury to Scully only enhances that. However as you highlighted and has been mentioned, the issue is that he can play other roles that aren't as friendly (pressure forward, half forward) better than others around him (Hopper, Griffen). I believe if forced into these roles, that he will average in that 85-95 bracket which is good but not outstanding come seasons end. He is no monty to be amongst the top forwards and is purely role dependent in my opinion, if he stays in the same role though he could achieve far better results, make of that what you will. Risk/Reward

Looking to do Single Trade this week

Side-ways

Armitage>Taranto

just give me a yay or nay guys
I'd say no .....what are you trying to achieve from the trade ? .....more points or $$?

I'd generally say downgrade Armitage to a rookie ...and upgrade another player to a keeper premo, with the savings

Been thinking all week of going Brayshaw to Holman and either ZGL to Ryan or ZGL to Fisher
but now thinking Brayshaw to Holman and Kelly to Titch.
have $124,400 in the kitty and any help would be appreciated :)

I'd be going O'Meara to Holman, Lobb to Taranto. Brayshaw will get to $380k + (eventually) and is worth holding.

JOM ain't going to be the potential keeper we thought he might and will take forever to generate $150k. Grab $250k now and do an upgrade in 2-3 weeks time.

Lobb was a shit selection but you can sideways him to Taranto who looks on target for a 90-95+ season. He'll generate cash & points and be a cheap upgrade if he doesn't make keeper status.

Why does he need to average 110 for the season? Because you paid 109.2 for him?

Only about a fifth of mids in that price range return averages equivalent to or better than what they're priced at (i.e. their previous season's average). In truth, about half return 95%+ of their value, and half return less than 95% of their value.

If Merrett goes at 109-110 for the remaining 20 rounds then he will average about 104-105, or roughly 95-96% of his dollar value. Not ideal, but still within that 50th percentile. Effectively you will have overpaid for Merrett by about $28k.

The question is whether you use a trade moving sideways to another premium for the sake of $28k. Would you sideways a rookie to another to generate a further $28k only?

Also, the other premium you're considering is $12.2k dearer than Merrett. So that $28k you're "saving" by trading him is offset by the further $12k you spend to go to the other bloke.

Use a trade for the sake of $16k? LDU will make more than that this week alone, and he's a bust.

The precedent for this scenario was in 2011 when 22-year-old Joel Selwood ($630.5k) got knocked out by Farren Ray in the opening round and scored 24. Slightly different in that he missed Rd 2, but he only missed the one match and was back by Rd 3. As it turns out Selwood ended up averaging 111.5 for the year (95% of his value), which made him the 12th-best mid by average. The player in that price range who started best that year was Marc Murphy, who went 107 and 133 over the first two rounds.

Murphy's 2011 average from Rd 3 on? 117.9
Selwood's 2011 average from Rd 3 on? 117.0

Hold Merrett.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I don’t care about his price, only points.
I brought him in because Watson retired, so I hoped he would go from the 109-110 avg to maybe 115.
So far he has been ko’d and then tagged.
Oliver on the other hand has improved from last year.

So my worry is that with the concussion and tagging issues, zerrett won’t even reach 110, where Oliver could easily average 115-120.

Also, will Oliver be a top 8 mid? Will zerrett?

Tricky.

You are getting Ryan but cutting JOM to get him who is on the park and still has a decent upside to his scoring and cash making potential as he builds fitness.
I politely disagree.
Langdon will be a perfect downgrade in 5/6 weeks. On the bubble, known quantity, basement price. Leon says best 22.
This is not a regular situation and trading him out for another cash generator makes sense. Anyone who doesnt have him will be well ahead.
After a night of thinking it over...with the help of AssassinAndy & Buttox, it does makes sense to move Langdon on.
whilst I don't like the idea of trading the same rookie 3 times, i can justify it now as a rookie correction trade, and tell myself I'm only using 2 on him later....only 2 possible Langdon loop games as well has swayed me.
I have dodged the injuries so far, got right rooks and can part with 1 trade.
Thanks for the discussion guys!..always good to get different views on things.:thumbsu:

in Bank only wanting 1 trade this week

Hmmm sort of puts you in a tough spot because it definitely isn't anything screaming out pick me that you can afford above Taranto, another option is swap Finlayson into the MIDS and pick up Bonner if you like him as an option, other than that you may have to downgrade and hold a bit of extra cash for a while (maybe Venables as an option?)

Or hold Armitage and back him in to improve

Is Naughty > Murphy worth a trade?

If you have no other corrective trades that need to be done then yeah it might be worth it. The crows rate Murphy and seems to have filled the void left by Cameron, still not sold he is 100% safe but he can score well enough to make us some reasonable money!

For what it is worth I think Naughton will improve with every game and it only takes a couple of decent games for him to start earning cash. But yeah I would look to get Murphy in personally

Can I summarise for a second?

1. Naughton > Murphy is worth the trade. There is noone breathing down Murphys neck atm and his 2 goals last week (and 5 goals this week against our mob) will keep him in for a while.

2. ZGL > Ryan might be worthwhile doing, but really trading him to any other bottom priced forward rook appears fraught with danger, whether its JS (Waterman) or scoring potential (Rioli, Venables, Gowers). None of them scream pick me and I would just see it as somewhat of a waste of a trade (Higgins might solve this in 3 weeks time).

3. Bonner/Fisher are good cash cows but don't think they will be keepers. Their upside is their point scoring ability, which is why I am getting Bonner in for Naughton this week, but don't think you can pick them to keep in your side all year round. Really should have started with them.

4. Trading uninjured premos is a good idea if rookies are alright, particularly if you can justify the reasons for their slump (i.e. Hibberd and Menegola impacted by teammates, Bont still situated forward) or vice versa (Simpson and Shaw being freed up more, Libba injury helping McLean, etc.).

5. If you don't have Finlayson, Doedee, Kelly, Holman, Ryan and Fritsch - get them in! I would almost throw Ryan, Murray, Banfield and English in that conversation also.

I had Byrne to L Murphy locked in. Now that he's out I see Brandon Ellis on the extended bench, and with his poor form is it worth going Ellis > Murphy instead and bank the cash?

Wait for Sunday teams to be finalised, but yeah it is an option if he is dropped or sideways Ellis to a premo and down Byrne to Murphy if you can use both trades
