Any thoughts here would be much appreciated!

Option 1:
Crouch > Clayton
T Langdon > Laird
(L Ryan & Fritsch both on field)

Option 2:
Crouch > Clayton
ZGL > Fisher
(Pushes one of ryan/Fritsch to bench)

I think I'm going to trade Naughton to Bonner, and ZGL out for Venables. Naughton is a SC spud right now, might not even make his breakeven, and Bonner seems a very safe pick even if he is a bit pricier.. And ZGL is self explanatory, to another rookie around the same price. Still will have $135K in the kitty after leaving a bunch of cash with my starting team to fix mistakes.

Are these good trades? Or should I hold fire on Naughton - Bonner and maybe go for someone else somewhere else?

My team at the moment is:
Laird, McGovern, Savage, Doedee, Finlayson, Murray (Coffield, Naughton)
Martin, Titch, Fyfe, Bont, Parker, Cripps, Holman, Kelly (Brayshaw, Banfield, Barry)
Naitanui, Gawn (Olango)
Heeney, McLean, J Martin, Christensen, Fritsch, Ryan (ZGL, Fogarty)
Exactly what I am doing but I can only do one and to fund it its either Hibberd to Simpson (with Venables) or Shaw (with Bonner).

Thoughts on the following trades:
Hibberd to Finlayson.
Brodie to Coniglio.

Backs:
Hurley, Laird, Lloyd, Doedee, Finlayson, Murray (Sicily, Naughton).

Midfield:
Martin, Mitchell, Fyfe, Coniglio, Zorko, T.Kelly, Brayshaw, Holeman (Barry, Constable, Dow).

Rucks:
Gawn, Natanui (Cameron).

Forwards:
Walters, McLean, Smith, Petracca, Ryan, Fritsch (Keefe, ZG-L).

Which leaves me 260k in the bank.

struggling to choose bn Fisher and Taranto - what are your thoughts on why Taranto drop in scoring? I also have fears from having Fisher stuck in team last year!
Cheers
if you have to pick 1...I'd go Toranto.
plays for a winning team and should see more of it. a slim chance of being a fwd keeper, Fischer i don't see maintaining his average.

^What ROO said
I don't think Taranto will be a keeper so I'd go down to Ryan and bank some coin for your first upgrade

I reckon Taranto is a keeper.

Day off work so I have done some research. Here are my findings.

He very well could be this years Oliver.
Oliver was drafted #4 in 2015, Taranto #2 in 2016
Debut seasons
Oliver (2016) - 13 games, average 70
Taranto (2017) - 12 games, average 66
2nd season
Oliver (2017) - 22 games, average 111
Taranto (2018*) - 2 games*, average 106*

According to the AFL stats, after the first two rounds, Taranto is ELITE (top 10%) in the following categories:
- Clearances (both stoppage and centre bounce)
- Tackles
- Total disposals
- Kicks
- Handballs
- Inside 50's
- Effective disposals
- Effective kicks
- Contested possessions
- Uncontested possessions
Now I know that it is only over 2 rounds, so there is some risk.

But the Giants rate him highly, and he is playing predominantly in the midfield this year.
He's averaging more disposals (27.5) than Shiel, Kelly & Ward, and is 3rd behind only Whitfield and Coniglio.
Only Coniglio has had more contested possessions.

His efficiency is questioned, going at under 70%, but as he is a contested ball winner, and these kind of players tend to score less in this area.
Also hasn't had a shot on goal yet. This indicates that while he is not increasing his SC score this way, he is playing more midfield minutes, belying his FWD status.

Playing for the GWS also helps. Teams that win have more SC points to share, and GWS will win many games this year.
GWS also don't have anyone else to come in and take his spot (perhaps only Hopper), and with Scully missing, will have even more time in the guts.

In 2017, the 6th ranked FWD for the year on averages was Chad Wingard at 93 (excluded Townsend's 97.5 as he played only 2 games).
I think Taranto will go 95+ this year, with the potential to remain over 100.
22 games (if he stays fit) at 95 avg would have placed him 2nd in total points last year for a FWD, behind Lance Franklin.

He's locked in for me. A good POD at only $365k. Get him while he's cheap!

Nor do I with fisher.
I think he will do 80 odd though.
Few hundreds thrown in he has shown he is capable.
I think Whe is a good comparison.

Good Analysis.

Taranto may have similar trajectory to Joel Selwood in his second year.

Hibberd -> Simpson
ZGL -> Coniglio via Garlett

Leaves me with:

DEF: Laird, Simpson, Lloyd, Doedee, Finlayson, Murray (Muprhy, Naughton)
MID: Dusty, Titch, J Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, T Kelly, Holman (Brayshaw, LDU. Banfield)
RUCK: Gawn, Martin (Cameron)
FWD: Heeney, Billings, D Smith. Venables, Fritsch, Ryan (Sicily, Garlett)

Fisher and Taranto are 2 different picks.

Fisher you would be picking up now, hoping he can keep a reasonable pattern of scoring and make you 100k-150k before upgrading him to a real premo. I think there is less risk and more upside in going with Ryan.

Taranto you would be picking up as a potential keeper for 365k, not cash generation. If you think this will be his break out year and that he can sustain his scoring, then sure. At his price you are banking on him to sit in your side all year. Bear in mind a 2 game sample is not very indicative considering GWS won both of these games against much lesser competition and round 1 was an absolute flogging of the Bulldogs.

I don't disagree with any of what you are saying and there is definitely a lot of potential now with scully out. If you have a good feeling about it, back yourself. It's just not a pick for me based on the two game sample with much lesser opposition. I think there are options for cash generation now and making 'safer' trades later in the season. But that's just the way I like to play. :rainbow:

I cant make up my mind.

My original trades included Hibberd > Simpson

Now I'm thinking I will just do Zorko > Dusty and hold the rest as I already used 2 trades last week. I thought of trading in Waterman for Olango via English but I'm not sure about his JS.

Thoughts?

If fisher can average 80 then he would be a good trade out at his bye at around $400K (+$135K).
Taranto at 95 avg will be $480K (+ $115K +extra pts each game), though if he is avg 95 then I'd be keeping him.

Is it sustainable though to average more disposals than Shiel, Kelly, and Ward? I'm not convinced.

Also, Clayton stepped up and was immediately Melbourne's #1 Mid, both from a stats and SC perspective. He pretty much had no competition, nobody stealing points.

Then consider that ZGL is injured, which will likely push Taranto forward given their lack of small forward options (esp. with Greene out), and also Hopper into the side for his first game. Hopper could take away his mid-time and send him forward.

Finally, they have played Bulldogs (90 point win) and Pies (unaccountable midfield) - with so many guns ahead of him I'm thinking he's a trap.
