Autopsy Round 4, 2024: Richmond v St.Kilda

I actually stopped watching at half time. NFI how we won, that first half was beyond putrid.

I reckon we have the potential to be decent next year. We will be middle of the road and no finals this year. Take it to bank.

Currently in horrible form. Have GWS, Dogs, and Port away. Almost guaranteed to lose all those. We are going to be 2-5, and unfortunately there are a lot of good sides. That's season over in terms of finals.

FFS just need a good run with injuries next year.

Great to walk away with the 4 points but a fairly uninspiring performance.

  • Transition out of defence looks great but the connection with the forwards needs a lot of work. We consistently kick inside 50 from 80m from goal, which gives the defenders a real chance to intercept.
  • The forward line looks too top heavy (but likely exacerbated by the delivery). Owen’s role is very confusing and doesn’t give him a chance to succeed and develop. Not sure Caminitti is required in the current setup.
  • The backline looked great after the 1st quarter when we managed to stifle their transition and put some pressure on the ball. I thought Battle was BOG and played his best game for the club.
  • Steele was huge. His best game in a long time.
  • Sinclair looks like he’s gradually getting his game back.
  • Hill was excellent. Ran hard, tried his heart and put his body on the line.
  • As always the midfield needs work but Pou is showing some signs.

If you win one of those 3 (doggies) we are 3-4 with:

North
Hawthorn
Freo (marvel)
Melbourne (G)
Eagles (Perth)
Suns (Marvel)

And Dow Clark Howard Henry Webster Paton Hayes Windhager Wood & Crouch all back by the eagles game

I didn't say read me the stats, which particular part of his game did you see with your eyes that WoWed you.

The Ross presser a classic. Admonished himself for waffling at one point…..and he was right to do so. A lot of humour and stream of consciousness.

A big wrap for Stocker. That was interesting. Thought he was good, but will watch the replay closely. Given I watched most of the game from behind the sofa.

I thought stocker has been the one showing the most improvement since last season.

Very VERY good.

Yes it may be a bit hard on Hastie only coming on in the last 5 minutes, however the way the game was balanced in the second half made it difficult to sub him in.

An elusive, electric small forward such as Collard could’ve been brought in when we were trying to kick goals. But a player like Hastie is not expected to come in a provide scoring opportunities. So without any injuries he was left hanging on the bench.

Anyway,

Negatives of the Hastie sub:
  • DIDN’T really get a chance to contribute,

Positives of the Hastie sub:
  • DIDN’T miss a chance to play in the VFL
  • DID get a chance to play in a St Kilda win and sing the song.

No doubt fixture gets easier, but spirit will be in the gutter if we start 2-5. Have to find a way to win 1 of the next 3.

Dogs is the most likely, but they looked very good against Cats. Need to find some form in a hurry.

We have 2 losses by a combined 12 points.

With an injury list as damaging as any out there right now.

I get the first half today was brutal to watch. But we sit 2-2 and face what is expected to be a Toby Greene less giants

Carlton made us give up future picks to the equivalent of pick 50 or something.

So yeah, not delisted. Just not kept on their list.

Because he requested a trade. They wanted to keep him.

If you’re trying to build a case to pot a bloke then at least be on top of the details of how he came to be at our club.

I wasn’t enamoured with going after Dow but once Flanders re-signed, he was the best cheap option available with the skill set that we need. He can spray the pill when he gets it but he finds it for fun.

Just to add.

Hastie has been a very quick learner when it comes to preparation.

Got to the Christmas break. Changed his entire diet. Started picking up extras in his training plan.

Really impressed the coaches - hence the almost out of nowhere debut.

2 games around the afl side and some small tastes will do wonders for him making that jump to the next level

Agree - if Dow can improve like Stocker has under RTB we will have a decent midfielder.

I thought Stocker was no good - I was wrong.
Dow was condemned by Diesel after his 2nd season and after that they never really put the time into him.

After his first 2 seasons he was hardly played the next 4 seasons - the games he did play he for instance.

Last year he played 10 games - 5 as a sub and the 5 games he played he played less than 75% TOG and still racked up over 20 possessions a game.

That is pretty bloody good - if he brings that he is going to be very good knowing he is going to have a point to prove and at 24 he is no boy now.
"I thought just watching him, he's just not desperate enough, not going hard enough and I'm pretty blunt, but I think you get what you deserve." Williams, who has recently coached Dow on a personal level, told SEN.

That was a tough watch.

But as others have said, that is not an AFL standard ground.
I don't give a damn about gather round. We should not be sent to that greyhound track backwater for an AFL game for premiership points ever again.

Steel good. Sinc's improving. Nas.

Anyone noticed Wilson watches the bounce of the ball a bit much at times. Half a second too slow instead of just getting it?
Wilson has been good but he’s had a lot of “scared of contact” moments so far. At some point he might need some midfield time in the VFL so he doesn’t spend all his time marking the ball in 20m of space while he’s developing.

Plus it seems Steele has grown on him as captain ( or maybe Steele is displaying the behaviours he wants).

At best he was luke warm on Steele last year & I thought he was probably gone as Captain

Lol imagine Harvey or Lenny just coming out and saying that about Pou.

Stoked to see Steele back to his best. He hadn’t been anywhere near it for the last two years and he was a watch for me this year but he looks like he’s back to 2020-2021 form. What the hell are we going to do without him because he turns 29 at the end of the year. Hopefully we can build a midfield around him while he’s still at his peak.
