You are going to be in a world of hurt towards the end of the season.

Remember it is a marathon not a sprint.

I have never seen a season like this where the vast majority are chasing points.

Coaches see the 5 extra trades and think 'you beauty, we have 5 lavish trades to burn' but don't see the issue in doing that. Those 5 trades on top of normal are of course for COVID protocols but you could potentially make a case that it SHOULD get you the top on each line if you are careful with depth / trades later in the year. How many teams do we see every year 'finished' with 3/4 guys at D6/M8/F6 averaging 85/100/85. Burning through the trades chasing points is gonna see them all finish similarly to most years and I'm all for it.

If you are Gawndy in the rucks are you behind the 8 ball

Ehh at a loss right now but still means other coaches have to find the cash necessary to upgrade to G&G who will both hover over 550k all year. They will both finish top 3, you could put your house on it. Gonna burn through some trades to get there imo, whereas other coaches will get the luxury of fallen premos on other lines at 450-500k like we see every year that coaches who've gone slim in the rucks won't have the luxury of doing as they have spent their coin on those lines already.

What five extra trades are you referring to?

I've started with 30 and still on 30 trades left :p

We also have a far higher number than usual of 200-400k players who look like borderline keepers so that's trades saved there as well, I don't think you should be too worried about burning through some early to set up your team long-term.

Out of curiosity and if money was no object which 6 players would be your starting players come finals

Hewett - Lloyd - Short
Docherty - Stewart - Hall / Sicily

looking like what i might be targeting

Dawson another good option, and I wouldn't be surprised if players like Crisp and Ridley bounce back from slow starts and outscore some of those six from here on out, the Carlton duo especially I don't think will keep it up.

Zorko if/when he gets DEF DPP is another one to consider.

If you've had to trade Gawndy for cash to facilitate missing out on players you should have started, you're probably 'behind the 8 ball' as well.

The only ones who are really ahead are the ones who haven't spent any trades on their rucks and started with English, which is a minor % of the population.

Short, Crisp, Whitfield
Pendlebury, Hall, Stewart

Is what I'll be targeting. First three I have.
However, if cheap bottomed out keepers arise I won't be saying no.

Not interested in the the Gull?, Sydney will play finals.

Despite their good start Collingwood might not be, so Pendles a chance to get managed in the second half of the year?

Nope. Lloyd took 11 kick ins (+44) and only scored 104. I think as the season wears on, Blakey continues to take more and more kick ins (6), and they continue to play faster footy with limited stop start through the back half.

Lloyd's floor is quite good as a result, but his ceiling is gone imo, Sydney moving away from the chip gull style type footy. Wouldn't be surprised if Lloyd drops to a 95-100 average this year which is fine but I'd have to wait to buy him.

With Skinner potentially looking like a dead rookie, I’m thinking of making my sole trade of the week Skinner > Dow. Think he has good JS?

It'll be interesting to see how early or how late coaches trade the higher scoring mid-pricers. They're a quick and cheap jump to a SP but they're also great backup for short term injuries, concussion/covid protocols.
