IMHO

Safe: Hickey, Carlisle, Gresham, Ross, Acres, Steele, Montagna, Riewoldt, Lonie, Geary, Billings, Newnes, Roberton, Armitage (if fit), Brown, Bruce, Membrey, Webster, Weller.

Possible outs: Dunstan, Long, Gilbert.

Possible ins: Steven, Minchington, Savage, McCartin.

I think Lonie is safe - his repeat pressure acts are elite. Dunstan's numbers are low, but I'm willing to concede the coaching staff see something I don't see. Either way he also kicks goals.

I liked what I saw from Long - he's a little bit too unselfish, but he has class. But did he really do enough to get carried for another game? Certainly not ahead of a fit Jack Steven. He'll be very good, but he needs to build a tank.

Gilbert continues to confound. Hasn't made too many mistakes yet, but someone needs to be pushed out.

At the moment I would think it'll be Steven for Long and that's it.
I'd say Armo will be out for Steven. About Long, they didn't take long to rush him into the side, they must be VERY keen on him. If that's as it seems, I find it hard to imagine he'll be dropped after just one crack at it. "Saints Footy" is about pressure, and Dunstan & Armo are big parts of that even when their other numbers are down. Unfortunately Dunstan seems to have taken over from Farren Ray as our professional kicker of points when we need a goal, but I don't think that'll be enough to cost him his spot, but they'll HAVE to give Koby a run sooner or later. I'd love to know what they've told Koby as far as their expectations of him this season. Sincs too.

A bit stunned at suggestions to drop Gilbert. He's been excellent. Would be Top 8 in our B&F count right now I reckon. He stays in the team just for that desperate, last quarter defensive 50 smother on the weekend, when they had momentum and were threatening to be within 2 kicks!!

Dunstan has points in the bank for mine. That's all I have to say about that.

Gringo makes a solid point about Lonie. As someone firmly in the non-Lonie camp pre-season, he's surprised me. I've found myself on many occasions being glad he was there, cheering him providing the pressure // getting to a contest that nobody else could. He can be a clever playmaker too.

Lonie has however dropped off. Not so much that I'd have him dropped. The question I think is:

Do the coaching staff think we need both Long and Lonie in the team? If not, who gets the nod? Mav comes into this equation. If they're not confident Mav (who won't be dropped) can get to // influence enough contests (pressure-wise) with his current form or niggle, then I'd suggest both Long and Lonie continue to play. If one of those two is dropped, the onus goes back onto Mav somewhat to step up his forward-defensive game.

Savage is going to find this team hard to get back into! For mine, Savage has the tricks but just doesn't seem to have the desperation or indeed football smarts on gameday.

FWIW, I would like to see (assuming Armo hasn't pulled up, not saying I'd like that, fit he's best 22 no doubt):

OUT: Armo (inj), Lonie
IN: J Steven, K Stevens

This because I feel like we can cover the FWD pressure, I prefer to see the midfield bolstered another step, see what happens. Whether it makes us too slow or vulnerable on the rebound -- one way to find out!

No to Paddy. I think it's hard enough to slot Steven in, but he simply must come in.

If I'm the MC, I'm almost hoping Armo doesn't get up to make their life easier.

Out: Armo (inj)
In: Steven

Otherwise, one of Long, Dunstan or Lonie out, in that order.

Long won't be dropped. He wasn't rushed into the side because the coaches think he might be best 22, it's because he is best 22.
It was his first game and he'll be cut some slack for that. The most you can hope for on debut is he just plays his role and plays saints footy, both of which he did. He didn't cost us defensively and that's what comes first. His offensive stuff will come in future as his confidence grows.

100% Sinclair comes in before Minchington. For one, Sinclair's exposed form in the AFL is much better than what Michington has shown and they play the same role. Plus, one is named Jack, so he gets bonus points for that.
Would like all 6 Jacks and Steven and Stevens in the team.

Next season get Sheil from GWS and Sheils from Hawthorn and play them also.

It will be interesting to see how Geelong go in the MRP this week. Menegola could get a week for his tackle, Parsons is gone for sure. Danger pulled up a bit sore at one stage too. Coming off a longer break, this is a massive opportunity for our club to grab a big win.

Why is minchinton in before Sinclair? I haven't paid too much attention to the Vfl side but by all reports Sinclair has been best player over the last month. Granted Minchinton is a good player and had a great game but he hasn't even been mentioned up until this week? Sinclair didn't play poorly either. I'd rather sincs over meatball because he's been more consistent with his good form
Minch had 35p 7t 4g BOG

Geelong's results after Easter Monday v Hawthorn:

2016: Loss to GWS by 13 pts
2015: Loss to Fremantle by 44 pts
2014: Loss to PA by 40 pts
2013: Win against NM by 4 pts
2012: Loss to NM by 17 pts
2011: Bye
2010: Loss to Fremantle by 7 pts

I think on form we win this game and then look forward to burying the hawks next.

Ive been watching Geelong. They been winning but havnt played very well. They fade in and out of games and Hawkins is not in great frorm.
Brown and Carlisle should win the backline. They dont have cover for our tall forwards and Ross has been super good this year at taking out top mids and playing off them well too.
We came out on top against some pretty tight pies mid pressure. Think we'll feel freed up this week after that and should run ontop of them.
Looking forward to this.
Not sure u could drop players from last week on form. Expect no forced changed except Armo and maybe Robbo if hes injured? Or was that a hoax.

Menegola gone, Parsons gone, Ruggles couldn't walk without looking like he had been on the piss for 24 hours straight and Danger was sore but I would think he plays, regardless even with those blokes I see us at least taking it right to the line against them. They are not unbeatable we can beat the cats 100%.

Your opinion or is this from the MRP? Can't seem to find the results from this game.

Parsons played a good game yesterday. Doubtful ruggles doesn't get a rest. How is geelongs depth?

It has been years since we've had a good match-up for Hawkins so having an in-form Nathan Brown get first crack at him with big Jake to help out gives me lot of confidence. It is a nice feeling that we finally have an answer to the gorilla forwards in the league.
