I get what your saying, but is his intent in singling out a player focused at sending a message to martin himself or the team as a whole. As to me, this: is directed purely at martin, not the team. Which would be purely to give him a reality check and tell him that he expects better of him and if he doesn't fix it, he will find himself in the reserves. If it was aimed at sending a message to the team as a whole, that no player is exempt from the game plan then he will be dropped like you said. Which is what the second bit sounds like. My view is it was meant for him therefore he won't be dropped but i could be wrong.
Then he does that in the rooms not in front of the camera followed up a minute later with we will find players in the VFL prepared to put their hand up and play the Richmond way. He is telling everyone one thing but then going the other way. Clearly a mistake on his behalf so he needs to correct that in his next opportunity to speak to the media. How will Mackintosh feel next week playing VFL whilst Martin who goes against team rules as named by the coach plays AFL?

I am all for bringing in the VFL players that PERFORM. Arnot and Mcdonough were stand outs today by all reports as were McBean who was nailing his set shots. Vickery bagged three so if griff doesnt come up i hope they bring both guys in. I think Taylor Hunt needs a week back in the two's and wouldnt mind sending Vlaustin back down there to earn his spot, I remember two years ago in a game against West Coast I got very excited about him and his run and use... since then he just seems like another player.

This side to side shit is frustrating, when Martin, Cotchin, Grigg and Miles all have 25 plus touches you should win games!

Hardwick said in his presser that his kicks acros the ground were not part of what he was supposed to do. He either backs that up with non selection or comes out and apologises. You can't name players for going outside your game plan and then pick them.
I think it's okay to name players and still play them. Martin wouldn't be so precious after a loss like this today, would he? Kick some arses!

He followed that "Richmond way" comment with "we will still back our players in". He contradicts himself with every line, by saying that second quote he partially already corrected it. Honestly if Mcintosh is dropped, then we have greater problems. Especially after saying that we will look at the tape of the VFL to "find players that are capable of taking us forward".

Im still trying to figure out how Dimma can single out Dusty for a couple of turn overs when he has never singled out any of Gordon, Llyod, Morris, Grigg or Newman for there piss poor vfl standard performances this year!

This so called coach is a ****en disgrace...cue the token soft easy changes for next week.

out: Griff (inj) Newman (inj)

Also I generally back Cotchin but his disposal
Is really starting to piss me right off. Little dinky kicks that hardly go 15m or little chip passes at the ankles...

One more thing...if Rance does want to retire he would know by now. So if he has decided to retire, now is the time for him to go. We cant have blokes that aren't in it for the long haul taking spots off other players.

Perhaps he should think before he speaks then?

As for mackintosh a break wouldn't hurt him as he has tapered off in recent weeks. He and the other 21 need to know that they will be selected if their form and output warrants it not what pick you were or how much coin you are on. Trouble is we can't drop them all

Just illustrates how innefective 20m kicks and rapid hand balls are doesn't it? The stats after the match would have indicated that we won. The stat that mattered is score, we lost that by some margin :(

You sure Cotch had 25?

Couldn't agree more. With Mcintosh, i'd give him a run off half back for a few weeks before sending him back to VFL to find form, if he doesn't find it there.

This stuff is the least of Richmond's problems (a side issue). The players just need to start playing to a standard acceptable at AFL level. Heck, they're paid enough!
We have been through a period of players effectively being gifted games but this needs to stop pronto. Everybody should play by the same rules. You perform at VFL level and someone in the AFL is struggling you get a run. Ala Newman, gets games because of experience whilst Lennon, Arnott, McDonough that keep putting their hand up in the VFL get a run as sub then back to VFL. Newman injured today will be straight back in when he is fit. He won't play a VFL match. Even Goodes is happy to play in the second tiered comp.

Other clubs know that all the just have to flood the forward 50 and we can't score. They can then get us on the counter. The way things are I can't see us beating anyone.

Frankly, I've had enough of Dimma. The 3-10 last year should have seen him off. All the people in charge of our recruitment and list management should be gotten rid of too. This club needs cultural change from the ground up. There is a lack of professionalism and an acceptance of mediocrity that is a cancer at this club.

How this club can take the money of 60,000 members and giant crowds and deliver exactly bugger all for 33 years astounds me. Cometti is right. RFC is a ponzi scheme.

Players have been coming and going from the team all year and we're still playing crap football. I was trying to say that players should take more heat from their poor efforts and not be too precious if the coach names them (and not others). Too much heat on the head coach and not enough on the players IMO.

I watched 20 mins of the game as was convinced of my previous thoughts that the club is again making completely stupid decisions on and off the field.

After that point I went to the GWS game and watched a team that played to instructions had at dip at EVERY contest.

The GWS are so far ahead of Richmond already it's not funny and they will only get better.

Anyone thinking otherwise needs their head read as they are seriously deluded.

Reality sucks tiger fan.

Lots wrong with the performance today and things just aren't quite right down at tiger land and in the coaches box I agree.

Still I think we would have won if it wasn't for our injuries. Third quarter was an anomaly in which Norths talls got a hold of us, as did L Thomas. Talls may not have got on top if it wasn't for the injury to Griff. Just stuffed our structure in a big way.

The game today again proves we are missing a real forward line. We won the clearances and we had enough opportunity we just cannot go forward as we only had a one man forward line today. The fact is that we have a vfl forward line. Morris, Lloyd and Gordon are vfl forwards period and Newman is done. We have so many real needs that even if dimma was the best coach in history we would not belong in the top 4.

1. An inside big bodied bull of a mid who can win clearances and works defensively
2. A small forward in the mould of Hayden balyntine.
3. A mid sized forward such as a j stringer
4. A half back who can run and created overlap run
5. A tall forward who leads strongly to the ball and can play ruck as opposed to one who continually gets caught behind his man

So while I think we are short on talent I just cannot believe some of the decision making today. Short kicks to contests, long kicks to contests across the ground, kicking to no one in the forward line, extra hand balls to players under pressure when the opportunity to kick cleanly is there. These boys are short on confidence, trying too hard, not enjoying footy. Desperately need a backs against the wall victory over the pies to get the mojo back. Bring Conca in. McDonough or Arnott for Newman and potentially McBean.

There's a lot of if's and buts in that. If every club had those 4 or 5 key players they neded they'd win the flag.

The reality for Richmond is that we are poorly coach, poorly developed and poorly list-managed.

The worst of all is that Gale and the Peggy mouse think we're on the right track - the truth is that we couldn't be more farked. They're both completely delusional and NOT doing their jobs. All 3 should walk at the end of the year - failures the lot of 'em.

If Hardwick is serious about his changes need to be made comments and we're going to look at bringing in players who'll play the Richmond way then the changes I want to see are.

OUT: Newman(inj) Morris (inj) Griffiths (inj) Grigg (omit) Hunt (omit) Gordon (omit)
IN: Dea Vickery Castagna Menadue Lennon McDonough

B: Dea Astbury Chaplin
HB: Houli Rance Batchelor
C: B.Ellis Vlastuin McIntosh
HF: Deledio Vickery Lennon
F: Martin Riewoldt Edwards
R: Maric Cotchin Miles
INT: Grimes McDonough Menadue Castagna
The problem with this is that it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of doom. The team becomes too unstable due to too many additions and success is probably even more unlikely.

But... what have we got to lose right? Things are in a mess again.

To add to the misery I reckon Cloke will get a bag of goals next week.

Agree but you can't single one player out for doing something he shouldn't then drop someone else to bring a VFL player in.

Hardwick needs to come out this week, tomorow if possible and say something like " hey Dustin did something he shouldn't have done, we know why he did it, we accept that and he will learn from that and play next week". Anything less is weak leadership in a team lacking leadership on the field.
Sure the problem is that has been used too much as well.

Imo he has told them behind closed doors(going via players in reviews), and they simply aren't listening. Either way its not working.

And what about the players and those who recruited them, Tigerland?

I was in a similar boat, in that I was getting so frustrated with the rubbish being dished out by Richmond, that I ended up watching the saints v bulldogs game. Now there are two teams that are full of kids that play desperate football. Whether it is the coach or the game plan, both the saints and the doggies put up a very entertaining match, with minimal contribution from the old timers, reiwoldt and montagna. Both seem to have a direct game plan and do not play sideways as much as we do .....

It hurts to see teams like Bulldogs, saints and giants with exciting youngsters. I can't remember the last time I got excited by a new tiger. Seems everyone is just a bit role player.

If lids isn't up to snuff I'd rather see him as a permanent leading forward rather then 3 quarters across the back line
