Not writing him off by any means.. he is an inexperienced player with <5 games. Plenty of positives but not polished yet. Hope he and Erasmus can get plenty more games into them before the end of this season

Interesting that you say he isn't polished

I'd go the opposite and say he is very polished but doesn't get enough of the ball yet

Does a polished played Drop regulation marks like that.. and tackle like he did resulting in a suspension?
just had a bad day marking, is very clean with the footy usually

I have no problem with the tackle, showed good aggression

AFL just overreacting this season, it'll all slow down at some point

That would be... outrageous and delicious.

Amiss I can see, the other two I think have bright futures but Caleb and Andy are handy TSTL.

It's their size and power (once developed). If they come through as we hope, I think they can be more impactful than Brayshaw and Serong.

If you were to list the most damaging midfielders of the last 10-20 years, most of them are big and powerful. Judd, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Martin, Bontempelli, Oliver, Petracca, Cripps, throw in smooth movers like Pendlebury, Bartel and Mundy. Even Brownlow winners like Cooney and Wines for their year at the top. There was GAJ and Voss who were shortish but immensely powerful.

Not saying Erasmus and Johnson will join that group above. They almost certainly won't. But they are the primary players we need to drive us to a flag, as you need the power and strength to compete at the top.

Fyfe is our missing compliment to our current young midfield.. just been ruined by injury unfortunately.

Treacy > Banfield
Erasmus > Johnson
Wilson > Hughes
A smokie for the sub: Emmett
Hughes, Banfield and Corbett are the other emergencies.

Hughes should no longer play wing and can drop back to defence.

Fyfe to play for Peel.

Tend to agree with Treacy, give him a block of games (5+) or play him until the end of the season to see if he is worth persevering with. Suspect he fits in structurally, just needs time to make the position his own.

I liked Johnson's game (his best for the club to date), but he did not set the world on fire. He tried some nice kicks that did not come off. Reads of 6 clangers, but he tried to hit up the corridor so did not mind that. He fumbled the ball off the deck a lot and dropped some terrible marks that cost us goals on the rebound. 5 clearances was nice. His best game for the club, but he did not make others on the pitch look silly!

Treacy is not hitting the scoreboard for Peel, even in a winning team. It does not get easier playing for Freo, so not sure what to do there. We know the outcome.

All that said and done Banfield simply has to go. I think if he is named, I will watch from home. I would rather watch Henry get another crack than Banfield. He is depth only or a sub best for injury coverage.

Reality is, that if Fyfe is ready he simply needs to come in. Need to play Eras.

One thing I will say about the Brisbane game is that they took the game on with some more exciting footy to watch. If we play that style at home we will get a win this weekend.

Why do we think Johnson tackled Zorko the way he did? Looked a little malignant but could just be carelessness.

Because Zorko would have to be the mouthiest little flog running around atm.
I’m ecstatic that it was him that Johnson bagged, I’ve seen him throw more elbows and pack punches than anyone else in modern footy.

Imagine if Treacy wasn’t happy here playing seconds.
Let’s hope the coach has had a good chat like he did with Acres, Logue 😜

For the time being we should probably forget the plan, Banfield, player development philosophies, none of that rates against the number one issue we should be fixing. Our issues with securing/retaining the ball cleanly is killing us. Fumbling marks, handball receives, loose ball collects and the extent that it's happening disrupts our game so much, nothing is going to work effectively until this is at manageable levels.

Hopefully every training session this week there is lots of time devoted to exercises where they can simplify it in their minds to watch the ball into the hands and get balance and good postion to collect the pill.

Maybe also using the players who are getting it crisply as conduits in and around the play. It's infectious. Having your Captain and chief ball winner both being infected by the fumbles, makes it hard to stop the spread.

I predict we will delist Treacy, then move Banfield to the main list and give him a 4 year deal.
Played AFL against #4 last night. Put Banfield at FF and kicked 6.
Think JL's been watching...
