knowing the MC they will bring in ruggles for someone like Duncan, dont know if they have the balls to drop a tall defender

Hence why I'm incredibly worried about our future.
We have two blokes playing good footy (Lonergan playing better given experience). One will announce his retirement at seasons end while the other must build on the 11 games he has managed so far.

Why drop the young bloke in this situation?
It's not as if it has come to the point where choosing one over the other will save us the game. They are both playing their roles very well.
It is the type of crap we had to put up with last year when veterans were running on fumes but were still preferred over kids gathering 20-25 touches in the VFL.
Our MC has a lot of time and respect for Kolo, big things expected; he has an amazing physique yet very quick off the mark for a 193 cm player.
I would be stunned if he was dropped.

Big test for Ruggles but he's clearly earned the chance. Bews must be wondering about things however. We are screaming out for another small defender, more so since Thurlow went out, and he can't get a look in.

Maybe a case of just not enough consistent performances and his tank limitiation might still be over him.

As they say, one mans issue is another mans opportunity.

"Play my role, lock down whoever Im on..."

play on.. ".. Any of the small forwards or resting mids"

seems to me this the role we would have liked Bews to do but has failed to take his chance. Perhaps Lockdown is just not Bews forte. Im not sure he has the foot skills to be an attacking HB mid? .but thats not Ruggles concern.
This is Toms chance... Im still not sure he has that high end potential you see on a lot of kids...like Cockatoo etc... but he has that nous that he knows the game a lot better than them. If we have patience and give him games who knows what he could become.

Im sure this is a double edged sword for Wells. Great for him and the club getting another player from kinda no where.

However. imagine the # of texts Wells will get now from people wanting a go...lol

I believe it's standard practice for kids and their associates to flood recruiters with texts, videos, references, etc, I doubt if a few more will make any difference. ;)

Yeah, Josh Jenkins or his agent was even here on BF spruiking him in the lead up to the draft a couple of years ago.

I think txt asked for a meeting , using his spot as a VFL player to leverage something that someone out side the club may not be able to rig.
I doubt any future txt from our VFL players asking for a meeting would be an annoyance to him , I cant even imagine how much time he and his team spend out talking to potential recruits , looking at games , travelling the footy landscape... if we had a Marcus Adams on our VFL list Id be hoping he would do all he could to yell "draft me" .

A cool, calm head with an ability to clear the ball efficiently is what we're looking for down back, and I think Ruggles has shown promising signs of being just that type of player.

If he can do that, whilst playing 'lockdown' - which I think he can - he will be a solid player for years to come.

Can you remember where this was? I've seen it mentioned before... would love to actually have a look at it

Given he's been upgraded and played a pretty good debut, ive added the Toast to the prefix here.

Thought he played a soild game to day and has done himself NO harm for next week.

Bewsy might be taking a long hard look right now

Good for Rug...

Great start for him. Really happy with that performance. Just one dicey kick that I can remember but otherwise really solid and exactly what you want from a small defender.
