Toast Ruggles delisted

It's good to see a defender with a touch of the Scarlett aggression about him, hopefully they put him on the main list at the end of the year.

Don't think there's any doubt of that happening, made a few blues tonight but I can't knock anything he does.
Is the type of player we needed down there, hard and tough and hates to lose and has some toe so can sit on some of the quicker smalls

It really doesn't matter if we upgrade him or not. We didn't upgrade Blicavs until after 3 years. But I'm sure they're talking with him to make sure he's not going anywhere. Since the bye he's really come into his own.

How about we let the form of next preseason determine who is in the starting 22 for the beginning of the 2017 season. There is a lot of water to go under the bridge yet.

Don't like the boy myself but seeings I'm in favor of a new coach and all, which means we need to fail in September for that to really gain momentum . . . won't hurt my chances by playing Ruggles at all

And get's under opposition players skins and gets frees from their retaliation. I love him.

I think that we could get away with Blicavs for three years as he was a Category B rookie.

I think with Blicavs we were also tight on list spots, so it helped the club for him to stay on the rookie list.

As we went into this season 2 short on the senior list we have the ability to up grade Ruggles with the need to be trying to force a free spot on the list.

The only question would be salary cap issues. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as a rookie I believe Ruggles contract doesn't count towards the total player payments, but when we upgrade him we then have to count match payments under the tpp. It will be interesting to see if that is a contributing factor in their decision,

The Port Adelaide game did it for me - he's as hard as a Cats head
Growing in confidence , good skills and starting to back himself with run
Developing nicely , a keeper for mine

You could make that argument for the last 7 picked every week... He is capable of playing a backline role , and development will proceed the more he plays. The club should continue to add better players if they can , but imo , even if Thurlow comes back fit for R1 , he be wouldn't be his replacement.

The perfect back line would be Thurlow, Guthrie, Henderson, Taylor, Enright & Kolodjashnij.

Mackie is next useless these days. Ruggles offers hardness but it a battler like Taylor Hunt. Cowan is woeful and Lonergan is almost cooked.

Bobby ..there is probably no perfect backline... , it wil change depending on what a sides style is. I think its been shown that the taller backline can work well with this freo style tempo out bound style. Sure right now the way that would move it slowly Thurlow , his footskills would be handy , yet in game now that is so full press , one almost needs an inside mids body and mentality. I also have liked what Bews has done at times..of course sprinkleed with mistakes. Another Guthrie might replace them all , or another mid pushes him back. (Sorry CE) but all you can do , is add to your list and let the water find its own level. Kolo the last two weeks has shown some good and some ordinary form... right now , he is no lock ahead of Cowan.Does Enright stay..hope he does.
