I think the thought process was get our three most experienced mids in there at the start to set the tone. Backfired spectacularly.

That's exactly what it was. Hinkley said that we started Drew on the bench all year - but he neglected to say that Robbie starting in the middle was something different.

I didn't mind the approach - lean on the experienced players from the start and let them set the tone of the contest. At the same time, I don't think that approach should have been our 1 wood from the start. We've used this tactic at times to nullify a team's run on - especially in the last month or so of the season (including finals) - rather than going to it straight off the bat. I'm still unsure what we were trying to achieve because no was defensively locking down on anyone.

Our centre bounce approach for that first 10 minutes of the game was as bad as Cotchin kicking into the wind in 2014. In many ways this was worse because we had countless chances to rectify it but not once in the first 20 minutes did we even try to slow the game down and turn it into a bog in the centre square. We were witches hats.

Guess we can chuck the “we exist to win premierships” in the bin. Good win loss ratio seems to be acceptable

Literally been having this argument with people on Facebook and Twitter (I know, shame on me for getting into it with these intellectual pygmies)... Apparently 1-1 in the Finals and losing another home final isn't a fail, even though the club motto is purportedly 'we exist to win premierships'... The QF win apparently absolved Ken of any accountability for the travesty that was Saturday night... There are so many happy clappers who I wish would GTFO of the club along with these losers Koch and Hinkley

This unelected, unaccountable buffoon needs to GTFO.
I love how this morning Koch admitted that this loss was so embarrassing that there is a real possibility the whole playing list could be scarred by it and fall off a cliff but then also says that we're on the right track and things are on the up.

I have read it too. So what is new, did anyone honestly expect anything different?

David Koch has labelled Port Adelaide’s preliminary final performance as ‘soft’ and ‘embarrassing’, but says Ken Hinkley is still the man to take the Power to a grand final.

Either way, read the room.

36 hours after a disaster of that scale it should be apologies and 'we're dead set spewing' not 'all good, nothing to see here'.
And certainly not telling the fans to "calm down"
In other words... shut up.

So if you've forked out good coin and/or flown across the country only to be served up that dross you need to remember now is not the time

to ask the coach what happened.

• Paying for our AFL licence a second time

• Heavy investment in the football department and community programs

• China fell through just as we were poised to start making profits

• 150th celebrations utterly muted due to COVID

• Other COVID-related shortages blew out the debt by ~$4,000,000 — as an example, we should have had 4 consecutive home finals featuring packed houses and all the associated profiting as part of the heavily-incentivised for September AO stadium deal, and instead suffered reduced capacity and other limitations in all of them. Putrid.
Yep as I've said before, if it was raining sh*t we'd be yawning

Koch's flippant response to `antsy' Port supporters is typical of the arrogant campaigner the bloke is, he's the real snake oil salesman, kern is just a pawn.

We have now unfortunately lurched from being the William's family football club, where one particular siblings self entitlement was off the charts, to being the plaything of the unchallenged clown prince of daytime tv.

Oh what joy!

After an item on the ABC this morning I decided to look up Port's finals record under Ken Hinkley. In that ABC interview Michelangelo Rucci made the point that Port is 5-5 in finals under Hinkley. At first I did not believe it but after looking up the records he is right.

Since 2013 we have appeared in 5 finals series played 10 matches and won 5 of them. Up until last Saturday our worst loss was by 16 points to Geelong at the MCG in 2013. We lost a Prelim to eventual Premiers Hawthorn by 3 points in 2014 and a Prelim to eventual Premiers Richmond by 6 points last year. In addition in 2017 we lost an Elimination Final to West Coast by 2 points.

Surprisingly under Hinkley we have won 59.6% of 203 games which is actually better than Clarkson (58.5%) or Hardwick's (56.2%) Coaching record.

In the past 9 seasons we have not won a Premiership but neither have Geelong a team that lost by even more than we did last Saturday. Geelon's only upper is that they have made a Grand Final and that was in a year that we defeated them in a Qualifying Final.

The problem is not that we do not win games but more that we do not win the big games but tbh we have been desperately unlucky at times. Maybe a change of Coach would bring us better luck but on the strength of the record above I can see why a numbers man like David Koch would want to stick with Ken Hinkley and as much as it pains me to say it I would be amazed if Hinkley did not at least see his current contract out.

Koch now on 5AA.
"We need to treat that game as an aberration".
"The trend is upwards".
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Give up people. We're ****ed.
That's what KT said about that game against North Melbourne when we had that special big footy meeting a couple of years ago. The exact words! There's no point getting upset any more. They just don't get it!

Is there any PAFC member or supporter that doesn’t want Ken sacked?
Please thumbs down this post if you want him to remain.
just to be clear I’m in the ‘he has to go’ camp.

never underestimate just how dumb the average person is. i heard one of them this morning take a pre-emptive shot at anyone who is questioning the coach right now, he called some of the people he watched the games with "experts" sarcastically because they questioned the game plan and called it basic. these people don't even think to question anything until it's mainstream news in the Advertiser and such, massive size 72 font asking them "Is X the right man?" is the only thing that will make them think about it, very sad. like people here have all noticed, those idiots think being a great fan is just blind support

Would explain why schoey did an about face after signing a fresh 2 year extension 6 weeks ago 🥺😭

I didn't hear about this over here in the west

what was "the about face"?

Just finished listening to the Footyology review podcast.
I don’t know how or why but Hinkley and Koch have the media totally bluffed.
Apparently after a loss Port supporters are a bit antsy and want change.
However Ken has us at the top end of the ladder and no way should we sack him.

Until the outside media wake up to the fact that we repeatedly fail under the weight of expectation nothing will change.
A few emails from us non happy clappers isn’t going to do it unfortunately.
You only have to look at FB pages, a large contingent of our supporters and members still seem to think that we’re doing ok and we should back everyone in for next year.
Sadly I think we’ll just shuffle a few assistants, draft or trade some shiny new players, lose a significant amount of memberships and continue our match to mediocrity…..

FTFY.

Unfortunately this is the only way we will get action. Until then I hope you are all happy to waste your money. If you had any cajones you would do this regardless of the chance you lose your "prized seat" where you watch absolute mediocrity from a great vantage point..

Koch is soft and embarrassing...

I have read it too. So what is new, did anyone honestly expect anything different?
