Roast Sack Koch - Chairman of The Redeem Team

I met Richardson many years ago. Struck me as a guy that would listen attentively to you, say he'd take away your ideas, and then do absolutely nothing with them.

You know those people who always write copious notes at a meeting, then zero comes of it? That's him
That was my one experience with him.

Can’t retire from being a *head. We’re stuck with him
Yeah, He'd just have more time with PAFC to get involved in things he shouldn't, say all the wrong things (literally every time he opens his mouth) and generally just f*** things up more than he already has. We want him to get another job if anything.

Some people got incredibly lucky though.

You look at the people that bought up in the inner city back in the 60s, 70s and even into the 80's particularly in Sydney and Melbourne, when it was cheap and undesirable, have by hit abbsolute jack pots. A terrace house in inner Sydney on 200 sq metres of land that might have been bought by a working class family for $30,000 in 1980 is now worth $3 mill. That's just luck.
That was closer to the 1970 average than 1980 average of about $75k.

We had 3 lots of OPEC doubling of oil prices in the 70's - 1973,74 and 79 which led to average inflation of about 8% over the last 6.5 years of the '70's.

It broke Brazil. We haven’t recovered since.

Chairman Kochie speaks extensively with Dwayne about:
  • The agreement they've reached to wear the prison bar jumper in the Round 3 showdown
  • Why you'll never hear the word "rebuild" mentioned by him
  • Ken Hinkley's future

Koch on Hinkley's future: "We've discussed it with Ken. We don't want any distractions whatsoever during the year. We've taken it completely off the table until August. It allows the team and staff to concentrate on getting the wins and doing what they do best."

Koch: "You'll never hear the word 'rebuild' from me, because I think it's an excuse for failure. We know our members and supporters have an expectation that we are competitive and successful every year, and success is making finals. We embrace that expectation."

Jesus. When will this nightmare ever end. Koch says "every season where we don't make finals is a failure." We've had 5 out of 10 Hinkley seasons, probably 6 as failures yet he's still coach. God (or preferred deity) help us.

I don’t count losing an EF as “making finals” to begin with.

Semifinals should be the bare minimum.

Premiers: A

Unfortunately in our world these two things are mutually exclusive.

Koch is not Port Adelaide; he is Northern beaches . This is a horrific quote.

Koch: "You'll never hear the word 'rebuild' from me, because I think it's an excuse for failure. We know our members and supporters have an expectation that we are competitive and successful every year, and success is making finals. We embrace that expectation."

While Hinkley is the used car salesman who has struck rich at the club, Koch is the overdriving force of mediocrity within the club. His attitude is so against every single fibre of what it means to be Port Adelaide that he needs to be removed immediately.

You can't win a premiership if you are only aiming for finals.
He is so risk adverse that he doesn't want to rebuild or win it all.
Stability in mediocrity.

The only way, and I mean the only way we will win a premiership is when Ken goes that a single minded coach driven only by winning who has a very strong personality comes in and shakes things up and puts the right attitude back into the team.

We win in spite of Hinkley.
We will have to win a premiership in spite of Koch.

I feel like you're being a bit harsh on Koch here... his comments were better in context

He talks about making finals and going on to win the flag being the expectation every year. Also talks about how frustrating it is to be mediocre and in the zone of edge of the 8.

Comments on the bars and the relationship with Collingwood were spot on too.

You nailed it on Hinkley though. The decision to wait to August is madness.
