Financial stuff, sponsorships and China. All off field stuff.
We were moving to the best Oval (sorry MCG) in Australia and OneClub had fixed the schism in the ranks. Honestly Port when he took over was ripe for anyone to market smartly, as a club with a proud history, coming out of it's darkest hours. China he was led to, so he can't really claim any credit there. From that initial bounce generated by AO and OneClub that saw Port in the top 8 clubs for memberships, we've since drifted back down the membership ladder. Like on-field we've stagnated off-field since 2013/2014.

Giving him a pass, because he's 'almost' cleared our debt after over a decade, when he's had none of the handicaps of the SANFL owning our license a large part of that, or over a decade away from the shithole of Footy Park. Koch likes the old 'Remember 2011/2012!' as much for making him look good, as to paper over Hinkley's shit.

tl;dr - Koch is overrated for his off-field financial work. He's average at best.

turns out that torture camp was the worst thing that could've happened for us
How we used to laugh, that for the Crows all that mattered was finishing higher than us. Now we've had over half a decade where the club implicitly and sometimes explicitly (through various staff/players) pushes finishing above Adelaide as a key reason we've 'been successful'. Alanis Morrissette could use it as lyrics for a song that's actually about irony.

That's the way I kinda understand it as well and I ask people on here but they never respond which leads me to believe that is the truth, that he just fell in at the right time.

I would prefer the truth because if Koch has been dynamic in the office then it paints a different light but I'm not really seeing it.

It's more propaganda.

What do you guys think about trying to force a board spill?
A group of people known as 'Focus on Football' attempted to spill the board at Richmond in 2016 and I remember there being talks of a potential board spill at my own club in 2006.
Koch won't like it but it might put a rocket up him and force him to change a few things.

don't think it works like that when the AFL appoints the board

Those of you in Adelaide need to make sure he knows what we think of him when he makes his appearances at Port games
Agreed, koch needs to be the target of supporter unrest along with kern, who obviously has a hide thicker than a rhino.

Kok lives in a bubble and thinks most Port supporters love him, his ego will struggle to cope with any derision!

Agree with all the above except Ken’s hide.

The guy’s skin is thinner than rice paper rolls.

We never saw it early days, because he was never challenged, but from the 2017 EF onwards the guy has absolutely bristled at any semblance of criticism directed his way.

Which is why he requires so much protection from the club and is hidden from the public eye for long periods.

The guy’s ultra-sensitivity to criticism came to a head with the pressure of 2024, which is why we saw his completely erratic behaviour - tears, jumping around like a goose after regulation H&A wins, weird pressers, the Ginnivan incident.

I was watching Footy Show 2004 highlights and there was a bit about how a letter written by Brendan Schwab (who quit the Richmond board over disagreements) had leaked and they had Clinton Casey on defending everything. I don't know if many parallels can be drawn to our situation as that seemed to be a board split and leak (which would be nice). Whatever Richmond did really worked, they obviously had to gut the entire club and shift its philosophies completely as we need to do. But I wondered, what can we do in a official sense? Can we put the bona fide ways he is bringing our club into disrepute into a letter, a format we can escalate? If we can properly articulate and prove the disconnect he has caused, and the ways he has damaged the club, and put into writing the watering down of expectations - I mean, the AFL don't want it to be proven that a club isn't doing everything it can to win a Premiership, yet we know our club is doing that, so we need to put into writing surely? Everything from poor list management - predictable problems not being addressed and manifesting greater and greater, poor messaging and communication, disrespectful attacks on fans, the lack of accountability RE: failed "chasing greatness" objectives, If done correctly we could get our own disgruntled board members on our side, which would quickly alert the required powers.

Can't wait for this ****en w***er to come out saying the "ask me in August" rubbish again. In the same position again, way to go moron.

Yep, we actually need the Crows to be contending for a premiership. Everyone at Port is too fücking comfortable and needs to be shaken out of their complacency.
That is very clear at recent AGMs. We are too Crows centric. The club has the attitude that as long as we are performing better than the Crows then everything is fine. Such a lack of ambition. Unfortunately this attitude has been evident for a long time.

And another guaranteed thing to hear at the AGM during question time when a member is being critical of Ports performance - 'Well go & barrack for the Crows then'. Its the standard line from some of our members who lack critical thinking skills.

Good point re Koch with his self-serving comments re 'remember 2011/2012'. Only those within the club with top financial skills could evaluate how well he has actually done.

Agree 100%. I'll add he worked out the best way to stay around was to become a father figure to the players & spend most of his time doing this. The strategy has worked beautifully for him but unfortunately it's turned our players into soft, ambitionless players. Despite earning big bucks they just want a 9 to 5 type job with low expectations.

My mate copping a barrage of abuse from our fans and comments along the lines of "go supprt the crows" after voicing his displeasure after the Geelong loss in finals says it all really. Mindless turds.

It’s bizarre, isn’t it?

The “🔥🔥🔥this is fine🔥🔥🔥” types seem to double-down and become even more determined to defend things after embarrassing Showdown and finals losses nowadays.

Rather than crushing failures like the recent Qualifying Final lifting the veil for them, they see it more as a confirmation that Porp Hour is a widdle p¡ssminnow who is lucky to be in the league — it certainly isn’t the SANFL anymore! — and The Great One just finally ran out of his magic pixie dust that sees us PuNcHiNg AbOvE oUr WeIgHt.
