SANFL Round 9

Getting excited about Petrenko here. I rate your opinion on our youngsters Drum and I dearly hope you are right about him!

I really hope we see Otten debut sooner rather than later.

I would like to see Otten come in for Basset but I know it wont happen. In saying that i definately think Otten has done enough to be given his first AFL game. Jarhan Jacky has done nothing to earn an AFL game and looks nowhere near ready for AFL and yet Otten just keeps chalking good performances up. Otten is very versatile as well, can almost play anywhere.

Yeah Otten and Kite are ones I'd like to see debut this year. I'm actually looking forward to next years nab cup purely to see some of our younger players get a gig :)

Andy Otten will come into the side for a Robert Shirley, Michael Doughty or David MacKay type player, not a Nathan Bassett.

Saying that Aaron Kite may come into the side for Nathan Bassett (sometime) but I doubt just yet.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Andy Otten get a game this Friday night against Essendon.

I still think Kite's best position is on a wing/on the ball and not as a KPP or third tall. Has explosive run and a footballers instinct, much prefer him in a Kouta/Andrew Embley role.

He was on the golden child (Nick Gill) for the first ¾ of the match and then moved onto Heath Younie for the first 10 mins of the 4th and then Andrew McIntire for the reminder of the match.

So yeah Nick Gil didn’t do anything until the last quarter and why was that? Because Trent Hentschel was on him. He may not have got much of the ball but his defensive actions were fantastic as he shut North Adelaide most dangerous forward out of the game.

But it was a very good game by North Adelaide. Most enjoyable

Maybe Hentschel should have stayed on Younie if infact he was on him as he ran amok in the last term. I didn't realise Hentschel was on Gill earlier, I watched the last quarter a couple of times last night and didn't see him at all, even McGregor struggled to get a kick in that massacre.

i think we are all forgetting that kite was taken as a bottom age player and he is learning new roles every week i doubt that he would play this year but yes next years nab cub will be exciting to watch.

excellent point old son. he has well exceeded expectations of a BOTTOM AGED, BOTTOM PICK from last yrs draft. no sane person could be unhappy with the way he has performed to now

Well enough is enough for me.

If Hill isn't gone soon bye bye my money going to the Norwood Football Club anymore. Absolutely disgusting disgraceful complete and utter crap. If I was any AFL listed player associated with Norwood I wouldnt blame them for all wanting to walk out right here right now.

Friday night has finally highlighted to the rest of the league what Norwood fans already have known, we are going nowhere as a team, same handball crap and no composure under pressure and no gameplan either.

I mean we have had halves and quarters of football where we havent kicked a goal all year so wasnt surprised with Friday night and thats the disappointing thing.

I am officially embarrassed to be a Norwood supporter this weekend.

really? i didnt realise he was a defensive midfielder/hbf - are u sure about this?

He’s not but as we know Nathan Van Berlo is the likely successor to Robert Shirley in this role. Then David MacKay can step into Van Berlo shoes with a little bit more freedom as an inside player and then Andy Otten can play on the wing just as Knights, Van Berlo, MacKay and Vince did once they came into the side

Gee, little Wade Thompson has a bit of zip about him. Very very good debut game for North.

Imagine if he lost that puppy fat he is carrying. He is absolute quality. I couldn't believe how bigger influence a first gamer could have. I wonder how old he is? If he is not too old and he could lose the gut he could be another Wonaeamirri.

19 years old

I hear his younger brother Kriston, currently playing in the North ressies, is a better prospect.
A nippy wingman, who doesn't mind kicking a few.

Anyone got more info on the Thompson brothers? Had a word to the mate and he reckons Wade had a pretty bad attitude when he first came to the club, but looks to have cleaned up his act a bit. Kriston was out for most of last year with groin problems, but he's been playing well in the ressies this season.

Would either be worth looking at in the draft?

Had a quick search and found this article from a couple of years back on Kriston.

general report on his move to Adelaide a couple of years back.

Wants to play AFL, is a crows fan and says McLeod is his idol :thumbsu:

I played with both the lads in my time out at North. Both are good guys off the field. Kriston a bit quieter than Wade but i had more to do with wade. True there was some questions regading their attitude and commitment when they first arrived at the club. They have however got their act together and are becmoing very handy players.

Comparing the two;
Wade is lightning quick and a very confident player. Amazing closing speed and could probably make a name as sprinter/runner let alone a footballer. Lots of flair and good grunt to go with bit. Fitness was always his major issue coming through underages but NC would be the man to change that. Some good grunt to go with it. His body shape reminds me of pickett. Very barrell chested and a bit of a tummy but doesnt seem to hamper his performance. Actually quite a lean athlete othewise so dont let the belly deceive you. I see him as a midfielder more than a forward. His best asset is his speed in space and in stoppages. I dont see him to be an exclusive elusive crumber but could fill that role

Kriston more of a 'footballer' than wade. Just racks up possesions and has some class about him. Not as pacey as wade but not slow by any stretch. Slightly built from memory. Can rember him racking up 50+ possies in an u/17's game a few years back and then jumping straight into the two's for 30 more a week later. The commitment thing was always more a topic for convo with Kriston but he is still a very talented footballer. I know he played at nationals last year but cant remember his carnival performance.

Draft prospects? My honest opinion is that i thought there were always better players out at North but both are very draftable prospects. Good atheletic qualities give them an edge. Especially wade. You really need to see him over 100m to believe it. Maybe look at a rookie list spot as both would be speculative selections.

Kriston went to PAC last year and the comment was made that he is extremely lazy.

But maybe he's changed that, and if so, he would be a good prospect as all the talent is there.

I wouldn’t say he had a bad attitude but more along the lines of being shy and was easily influenced by others when he was younger.

If either of the two had a bad attitude it would be Kristen but that’s also simply an age thing, nothing to worry about in terms of being a bad influence.

Have some information on the two but wont post it yet – both are very good kids nothing to worry about.

You can't be too picky on BigFooty, but do you seriously EVER spell a player's name correctly?

It's "Andrew McIntyre", "Nick Gill", "van Berlo" and "Kriston Thompson".

I am eternally sorry for making you sit there for the last 3 or 4 hour trying to figure out who I meant.

Oh that’s right it would have only taken you 1 or 2 seconds to work it out as it wasn’t that big of a deal.

FFS talk about being a pedantic prick about it. :(

So you’re being a pedantic prick because I capitalized the V in Van Berlo? And I forgot to second L in Gill?

So I spelt McIntyre wrong and Kriston incorrectly – FFS the world is not going to end big boy.

Get a grip

Well that's encouraging then :thumbsu:

Not sure why you feel the need to hold onto your cards on this one, but I'll be looking forward to hearing more as the year goes on :thumbsu:
