Here's a thought. How about we let our draftee's have at least 3 years before we make snap judgements about their abilities?
Why anyone would suggest that anything less than a glowing report doesn't bode well for Davis is beyond me! FFS people, he is just back from a shoulder recon after missing 9 months. He will be a good player, let's just let him develop over the season.
Surely if he can make his way into league SANFL footy this year and consolidate a spot there we would be very happy. He doesn't need to set the world on fire just yet!

Perhaps I should qualify what I meant when I said it "doesn't bode well for Davis". I meant in THAT GAME, not Davis' entire career, for Christ's sake.

cmndstab, I usually have much respect for what you right. It tends to be well thought out usually on the money, but in this case I don't see how your comments could be interpreted in that way. Why would a report on the game not bode well for that game? You realise 'bode' tends to be used to indicate something that might happen in the future yeh?

Otherwise I appologise if I came on a bit strong. I just get sick of people jumping the gun to bag young blokes before they even have a chance to develop. Most players take at least 3 years to be ready for AFL. There are exceptions, but when you draft at pick 10 the ready guns are gone and the only bigs left tend to be project players. Picking a skinny KPP, who is coming off a shoulder recon and hasn't even played league SANFL, should make it clear for all of us that he will need some time.
Oh and I know Phil so I do tend to get a bit touchy!

Fair enough, I probably wrote it poorly. What I meant was that if they couldn't find anything to write about him, it probably means there was nothing worth writing about. I was only referring to that game.

Also, dude, you know Davis? That's awesome :thumbsu: How's he liking it down there? Give us the goss :D (Or PM me if you don't want it in the public arena)

I think as a whole we place too much currency in our judgments (particularly over pre-season) in the reports of others.

When some younger posters were critiquing the selections for the IAS, Geelong and West Coast games they pointed to the exceptional training form of certain players who were missing out. Now to our observers who are actually at training they can tell us to an extent how a player has trained, but really even they have no idea what constitutes good training form in the minds of the coaching staff, let alone from all the stuff they don't see let alone the Computer selectors FFS!

Good to get that off my chest!

Very well said Jo. Always interesting to hear people post their opinions saying that a coach and his assistants have got things so wrong (in terms of selection), and it doesn't actually occur to them that indeed, _they_ could be wrong, misinformed or simply don't have all the facts.

Generation Y to a tee.

Random thoughts -

Good numbers by Mckernan. I'll be interested to watch him play for South's league side this year.

Armstrong, Schmidt and Dangerfield also looked to have had handy games too.

Not much else can be concluded from the rest.

What is gen Y's age bracket?

Mate, as a member of generation Y i resent that, I'm looking more at generation Z.

But seriously, it's a problem all over the forum, people generally fail to acknowledge that the coaching staff may have more knowledge of the Adelaide Football Club and it's players than they have gained from reading an internet site.

Good to see you positioning yourself for more fence sitting this year. The AFC is never, ever wrong and all decisions are right and never will a mistake be made. :thumbsu:
