"You can't stop progress!" Enemy pulls out the Bill Heslop quote, but we're talking about the SFL, not Porpoise Spit. I agree it's a positive to get the other players a game, but splitting up a side's Reserves and Seniors is crap. The Seniors coach won't be able to get a look at them, they're not likely to hang around at Away games to watch someone else's Seniors, and if you get a situation where the host of the Seniors doesn't have a team in the Reserves then I can't see why anyone would watch. No crowds means to canteen sales, means less money for all the clubs. Apart from the money side of it, I love watching our Seniors after a game. Good idea if Sandown's twos fold, otherwise terrible idea. What about games like Cerberus? Is it justifiable to get a bus just to take the one side down?

my understanding is that sandown wouldn't have a reserves otherwise, so it would actually increase bar sales etc etc then if they weren't there. we'll have to see come round 1 i suppose

If that's the case then fair enough, but some people at training had apparently heard from the Sandown president just this week that they will have two sides.

Sandown are currently looking for a practise match for the seniors and reserves, so it looks like they will have a reserve team.

Is the info re MT having 3 teams confirmed? there is nothing on the SFL site about it

Quite agreed Enemy. Mr. Simple's good authority is his free hand. Our president received a phone call from the SFL last night before training giving us the green light for 3 sides - don't believe me, ring the league. If you were at a club that had a lot of players, would you rather be playing every week, or missing out on games? Don't know how strong the side will be, but a game is a game when it's all said and done!

Mr lonewolf. I believe simple simon was saying that other teams weren't happy, not that the league wasn't happy or he didn't believe you. Simply that MW are the only happy team about the decision, and that's a fair enough call.

If the case is that sandown would have folder their twos, then fair enough. But I don't think I'm alone in thinking that wasn't to be the case.

Valid points about the sandown canteen/bar not making money as your MW scrub thirds side aren't going to hang around, they will be going back to watch your seniors. How are the sandown fringe players supposed to impress? Will you let them play in your thirds team on permits?

Ah Benchman, you love to kick the boots into Mt, i see you have Black Rock as your side if thats the case it doesn't concern you as you are now Div 2 so pi$$ off back to that thread,if you are not from Black Rock reveal the club or person you are.I believe you are not from Black Rock.I pose a question to the div 3 clubs would you prefer a bye ?

Come on down to mcdonald reserve tomorrow then champ, i'll be watching the praccy match in my trusty geelong beanie like most weeks. I think we have monash, not too sure.

Mate that is not even the issue that was raised. Frankencow already said "IF sandown folded, fair call", but the real issue people are discussing is that most people don't believe they were ready to fold. I'm sure no one will have an issue with your thirds if they were going to fold anyway.

I still dont see why everyone is kicking the boots into Mt. We where looking at putting a team into the Ammo's club 18, but the SFL insisted that we create another team in Div 3, so we did. Did we do the wrong thing by supporting the SFL.
Also all we have done is provide the numbers for a third team. The fixture or where we play has all been left up to the SFL. We never forced Sandown to fold their reserves. The SFL may well have done so, but i don't see how we can be held accountantable for it.
Maybe everyones upset because now they will be beaten by another Mt Waverley side.:D:p

Was Big Pete down at training, or was his April 1st reemergence just fanciful thinking on his behalf? :D

Fair enough then MoC. Well responded. Better than people coming in just mouthing off, at least you show some intelligence.

did sandown field a twos side in there praccy game yesterday? if they did were does this leave mounts second ressies team?

They played 26 blokes for the 5 quarters. Quarter number 6 did not happen as they were dropping like flies. After 2 quarters Sandown were up by about 20 points and in the third the senior rolled out and Lyndale finished ahead by 5 goals.
Talking to a couple of the boys at the cobras they are still positive that they can fill two sides but I don't think it will have any quality.

Good luck to Sandown but with 13 days to go before the season ,spare me 26 doesn't go into 50 odd players barring injuries which all clubs get.Stop dreaming it's about time the Cobras were honest with every one.

That's what I said. I don't think they will have 2 sides and if they have 4-5 injuries they will be very ordinary.

Junior by the sounds of this Sandown were competitive with you guys.

I guess all the rubbish about the huge gap between Div 2 & Div 3 is no longer there as I also see that Oakleigh Districts just beat Doveton !!:eek:

There seniors were up on our reserves after 2 quarters by 20 points. 18 of the guys that started our game have had little training and were having their first run.
When our seniors came on we kicked 9 goals to zip. They have some decent players but they were not competitive.

2007 I believe the Eagles beat Oakleigh. I saw the Districts the week before for a half and they looked like a completely different outfit with very little height.

talking to oakleigh guys after the game, and although they've lost a few, they have also picked up a couple and beleive they're in just as good shape as last season. they were only missing 1 bloke from there best side on saturday.

You are kidding Oakleigh didn't even beat GWH the week previous and that side hadn't won a game in 2 seasons.
