You've also got observers that don't understand football.

Our game vs Doveton (you guys), we had a tagger following Battle around, general annoying/niggling type tagging but nothing untoward whatsoever, yet the observer approached the team to say that if he keeps doing it he could be giving away free kicks or cited by the MRP.

If anything, it was a couple of Doveton teammates of Battle that came in and gave knocks well off the ball to the tagger that should have been looked at yet the tagger is the one cautioned........ Absolute joke in my opinion.

And you're correct, if there was a headbutting incident in your game or any other reportable incidents then charges should be laid.

Just to be clear, that wasn’t the game I was referring to. We didn’t make any complaints to anyone on the day so that would be the umpire observer acting on his own.

I thought you may have been referring another game. And I know that no complaints were made from Doveton it was the observer in his own right was just pointing out that some of them have no idea.

Thanks LFK, but getting around to 3 - 5 games each is too many to digest accurately, maybe the comp could invest in more observers by offering up some $$$ as a part time position. Call them integrity officers or something and they have the power to intervene when things get OOC. The SFNL needs to get on the front foot in so many issues otherwise the comp will undo all the reasonable improvements that have actually happened over the last couple of seasons or so.

So this would need to be paid for by the clubs. They won’t like that.

Why is it all put on the umpires? Shouldn’t clubs take responsibility for there actions? What is the coach doing when this is happening? Make the player and coach more accountable.

Accept the umpires decision and speak to the league on Monday about any concerns. Isn’t that the correct process..

Are Mordialloc a top 5 team ? No way, too old and lack pace. Rumour that all is not well with the coach.

CEO has come out swinging for the umpires stating they feel hurt with verbal stuff both on and off field.

Looking at previous weeks tribunal, 14 reports, yes, 14! and only 4 picked up by umpires and 10 from MRP and League video charges. 14 blokes up surely undermines a bigger issue than verbals.

Maybe if the umpires instead of now relying on post game videos to pick up the reports should 'grow a couple' and report during the game or at least send players off and you will find a quick fix to the verbal crap.

Umpires control the tone and manner of every game as they have the tools to control not the players.

Hopefully the CEO has sent a clearer message to the umpire department to 'toughen up'

It's no different to anything in the past regarding the 14 reports, just that now the video catches all the incidents................some worthy of weeks but others which used to be part of football in my opinion.

Umpires don't see all the incidents, but I do agree that some really need to work on their confidence to lay the report on the spot if it is there and they deem it a reportable offence.

I have no issue with the CEO coming out and defending the umpires, the verbal abuse that I hear from the sidelines is pretty bad. Yes the standard of umpiring is poor and results in frustrated supporters/players but surely we know this and can also "toughen up" and bite our lip.

Was only able to watch the first quarter of the St Pauls-v-Port Colts match. Port Colts played a brilliant first quarter defending into a 6 goal wind. Their skills and ball use were excellent, and probably should have scored a few more goals into the wind.
Not overly impressed with St Pauls, but could have been a bad day at the office. Colts will be seething at letting the 4 points slip.
