Any truth behind dandy folding? Heard they needed 20 registered players to prove to the league they could get a side up and failed to do so......

Being a former redleg it's a sad state of affairs to see the club on its knees like this.
Around 5 years ago i remember having three full (and competitive) sides and having great numbers on the track each night.
I'm not sure where everything went wrong as i wasn't privy to any of the behind the scenes action, but things went downhill from the end of 2014.
I personally didn't think that the club wasn't going to survive long term.
As has been mentioned on this forum before, the region is no longer an AFL breading ground for youngsters.
There's a number of competing clubs in the vicinity with no junior feeding club, is always a recipe for disaster.

Perhaps going to four divisions a few years ago would have saved them (if their gone)?

Having joined Sandown last year, I know that another year or two of 150 - 200 point defeats would probably see us up against it too!

Is there a chance, as previously suggested, that they can get atleast one team up and either form an alliance with Cerberus and play as the Seniors/Reserves or go to the thirds with Cerberus which would leave a 6 team comp? Not ideal playing each other 3+ times but better than reverting back to 3 divisions with a massive gap between the top half and bottom half.

Problem i see how are clubs going to recruit players to Div 4 $$$$ most clubs dont have any to throw around other wise they would be in Div 3

Just saw Mr Andy Lee is gonna be running out for the dolphins this year , played a lot of footy against him and have seen him running hard early mornin on me way to work , good luck lining up on the well oiled bus boys

Good post.

The Doves will bounce back pretty quickly once they land in a league where they can compete. Strong club. They’ve been hit by Hampton park this offseason which hasn’t helped.
St Johns seem pretty stable and my club, the Eagles are growing this year so it’s not all doom and gloom.

I agree there is a huge issue in that area from sandown through to dandy and Doveton. It’s been ignored by The afl for years and Footy is no longer the most popular sport.

I know some conversations have been had between some of the clubs re the future but it’s a very difficult thing to do.

I’d like to see the league help shape the future in that area but I don’t think they really understand the Footy landscape in those suburbs at the moment

Both horrible club people

that's pretty harsh. they were both there during recent tough times. Nathan was a solid contributor and performed well under the circumstances and Ash unfortunately didn't get to play as much as he would have liked due to body issues. to call them "horrible" club ppl is a fair whack at them considering there have been far worse in this tough period for the redbacks

What Nathan did at Narre was pathetic , and by all reports he was similar at H/P , it would’ve been horrible what H/P went through over the years but I’m tipping he wouldn’t have played for less than $500-600 a game and would’ve put back next to nothing

You’ve hit them just as hard I would’ve thought , probably harder
Yeah we have 3 or 4 from down the road onboard this year. Not unusual for players to change between the two clubs. We are happy to have them though! All will be great additions.
How many ex Doves are training at HP?
I’ve heard as many as 6+

3 or 4 ? It’s who you’ve got which hurts more than who H/P have , if Doveton had’ve appointed your coaches then you wouldn’t have what you have , chuck in the girls for netball also . What happens next season when Doveton come into Southern , personally I’d love to watch Doveton vs Doveton Eagles

Surely another side in around dandenong or south east Melbourne cannot be on the league’s radar?

A couple of the junior clubs in the Berwick/ Narre area have discussed forming their own senior club. Berwick Springs I think was one. There was a website set up for a new Clyde side a while ago as well. Not sure if it’s still up
