After the season he just had, he has now climbed up to #30 for goals kicked in the AFL.

And of the 29 ahead of him.

7 are Legends (1. Lockett, 2. Coventry, 3. Dunstall, 9. Matthews, 15. Bartlett, 20. Hudson, 27. Pratt)
15 are regular HOF members (5. Wade, 6. Ablett Snr, 7. Titus, 8. Lloyd, 10. McKenna, 11. Quinlan, 12. Richardson, 17. Hall, 18. Kernahan, 19. Mohr, 21. Carey, 23. Vallence, 25. Lee, 26. Pavlich, 28. Moriarty)
4 haven't been retired for long enough yet (4. Franklin, 13. Hawkins, 14. J.Riewoldt, 22. Kennedy)
1 is active (29. Cameron)
2 haven't been inducted despite being retired for long enough (16. S.Rocca, 24. N.Riewoldt)

So, should he be in?

He will certainly be inducted at some point. Thats a given. I think you can elevate him comfortably to the third on the all time Crows list. So it will just be the waiting game.

Yes absolutely, his record is exceptional for the era he has played in.

He may not get in his first year of eligibility due to the suspension he had, but he’ll get in eventually.

But the thing is, if it wasn't for his 2023 All-Australian nod, he's had the same accolades as Sav Rocca.

I dont think it's a sure thing.

He's at the cusp right now.

I saw a lot of Rocca and he was your typical old school leading forward. he was good but he wasnt a dynamic style play making forward like Walker who has single handedly ripped games apart. Walker is statistically better than Hawkins and if he was in Victoria he probably would have been regarded a lot higher.

It'd be great to see but I doubt he goes on to punt in the NFL.

Always love the big full forwards and Tex has been a favorite since i found out he was tied to the crows under the NSW scholarship. Following his junior reports I think is what started me visiting bigfooty each week. Kept kicking bags of 7. I think the knee robbed him of being truly elite. But he's been bloody good.

That said - objectively - i dont think he makes it. Agree he's on the cusp & be happy for him if he does.

Lack of team success, less games despite age, lack of personal accolades. He won't get in. Happy for him to be a Crows HoFer, but he's top of the Hall of Very Good for me.

Yeah - but he should have been a 3 time All Australian. He was absolutely snubbed in 2012 and 2017.

2017 he was only 6th in the Coleman race with 54 goals, but he was #1 in Goal Assists with a massive 33. Over the past 15 years (since 2009) only two players have had more Goal Assists in a season (Gryan Miers with 40 and Brett Daniels with 37). For reference those two players COMBINED for 30 goals in those two seasons.

He was snubbed for All Australian and he will likely be snubbed for the Hall of Fame unfortunately.

I think he should but when you evaluate his record against the competition it's not that great.

No premiership
No Coleman medal as a key forward
Lack of finals in the second part of his career.
Only one All Australian

I think on paper he sits more as one of the greats of the club, given his role you probably need to win a Coleman to be a great of the competition.

Hope I'm wrong. He deserves it.

Of the regular members that I know of, he isn't quite at that level.

He’s criminally underrated. Super high footy IQ, and one of the best kicks of all time. Both sides.

The late revival in his career after looking cooked is quite amazing - he’s kicked 200 goals in the last 4 years.

Never underestimate the impact of a contract year. Or it could have been a coincidence.

In 2017 he was still 3rd for average goals + goal assists with the 2 ahead of him being selected. The next 2 are Tex and Daniher, with Tex 0.4/game ahead, but Joe chopped out in the ruck and they only selected one ruckman, so he got the nod. I don't think he was snubbed as such, he was the 3rd best key forward in a 2 person structure. You can't select 3 key forwards and a second ruck, that's not a realistic team. Noting they're generally full of mids anyway.

Hmmmm - don't buy your ruckman hypothesis there mate. Especially if you look at the All Australian team one year prior where they selected one ruckman (Gawn) and 3 key forwards (Buddy/Kennedy/Lynch).

2019 they went Hawkins/Darling/Cameron as the 3 key forwards.

If he didnt get selected because Daniher got 3.4 hitouts a game - then its an even worse snubbing.
