Yeo groin is just devastating. About the worst injury news imaginable.

He was awesome on ball in the preseason, trained the house down etc. Was shaping as easily our most important player this season

Then after his 3 week 'calf a bit sore' injury he spent a total of 4 quarters doing nothing in the backline against Melbourne and Geelong played a quarter in the midfield and has broken down again. Already having missed 18 months due to a groin injury.

And he's not even post 30, he's effectively played no games aged 27-29, at a point when by rights he should be in a prime. Recurrence of a groin injury at this point is absolutely grim. What the **** has been done to our list to leave so many top tier players with chronic, recurring injuries?!

I honestly don't know what the point is in fielding a team for the rest of this year. Its not helpful for kids psyche or long term development for them to get obliterated each week, but that's pretty much guaranteed from this point forward. We have about half our entire salary cap in rehab, that is simply an impossible position to be in and expect to remain competitive.

I feel like at this point its worth mentally preparing ourselves for news that Oscar Allen's feet 'have developed a bit of a hotspot', because that's about the only domino left to fall.

The club injury statement said we could have up to 17 players unavailable. How many do we even have on the list - 44? Would this mean we will have our 22, one emergency and 3 players in the WAFL?

How's the conditioning. :sunglasses:

Surely something happened before that vision - it’s not the first “bounce” because there’s other players in the square.

This shows the opening bounce from a different angle and something happens then although it’s hard to see exactly what

Did he step on Nelson’s foot?

****ed if I know. The eversion (inward rolling - employ me Nizzy) motion is of mild alarm if it happened with any force though.
My early prognosis would be to fold the club.

It’s bad enough that Yeo as a 25 year old was diagnosed with OP in the modern game but then to have it destroy the bulk of his prime and still be unresolved 3 years later leaves me furious with Nisbett and the boys club mentality to keep backing in our medical department. There have been numerous examples of potential incompetence and the department should have been cleaned out last year.

Nisbett can **** right off as well.

Do you know what Yeo’s injury is?

All that’s been said is he’s sore and couldn’t come back on

Could be an aggravation of his pre-existing calf injury or some other soft tissue injury

Could be a cork

Could be something else

I’m just not jumping to conclusions

As for our other injuries I’ve outlined how most (over half) are collision based which our medical staff can’t control

Did our S&C program need a shake up? Yes and we brought in an experienced and highly respected operator to oversee that

Our players got through preseason noticeably fitter and until 3 weeks ago our injury list was in good shape. That’s now changed

Some of that could be down to bad management and some to being unlucky. Whichever way you look at it though it’s frustrating and I understand why posters are upset particularly when the club isn’t open about the extent of injuries

All I’m doing is trying to get people to focus on the nature of the injuries and not jump to conclusions because not every injury is avoidable
I love your glass half full mantra but it was obvious that the moment Yeo was thrown back into the midfield he was setting himself up for failure. He should have been played half back full time with no eyes on any time in the midfield.

Unfortunately, we don't know if the conditioning and medical staff told simmo it should be this. Either the medical staff are derelict in recognising he no longer has the body capable of being a midfielder or simmo ignored said advice.

Yeo is fooked.
Groin is done.
Say goodbye to him as well this year.
This team is about to forcefully gutted at the senior end. Problem is the whole group of mid agers are potato's.

I wondered this -- in that initial clip you can see him already disfavouring that right ankle with a little hobble, before he actually goes down.

As an outsider that has no understanding of your club, what is the general consensus on the cause of these massive injury lists West Coast have been dealing with the last few years?
Has the ground at Optus Stadium had anything to do with it? Are these injuries mostly soft tissue or are a reasonable amount contact-related? You'd think a club like West Coast would be well resourced to hire a great medical team, is there a feeling amongst the fans that the players are being over-worked or mismanaged by the strength and conditioning team?
I actually feel sorry for you guys knowing that you must be going in to each game without any hope of a win or seeing some of your best players do their thing due to being on the sidelines. It would be incredibly frustrating not having any continuity in your team.

West Coast are set to investigate the possibility of postponing its WAFL game at the weekend.

West Coast’s injury crisis is on the brink of plummeting to the same depths as last year, with the club set to investigate the possibility of postponing this weekend’s WAFL clash due to a lack of fit squad members.
Sources have told The West Australian ruckman Bailey Williams is in doubt for the AFL side’s road clash against Port Adelaide after suffering a hamstring injury.
The already banged-up Eagles sent Elliot Yeo (groin) and first-round draftee Elijah Hewett (ankle) for scans on Monday on their respective injuries, while draftee Coby Burgiel re-injured his hamstring at WAFL training on Monday.

A stack of us in the game day thread started the injury clock as soon as he went into the middle. Our apologists will claim that the "rising moon was in Virgo" and it was an unavoidable event or some bullshit but we all knew the bloke wasn't ready. Rushed back, pushed into the middle and tried his best, to his own detriment.

**** this club, really.

You'd think so wouldn't you, but here we sit completely bereft of a single 1st year uni graduate, or even someone who just passed TEE Human Biology.
Dunno what we're playing at really.

It was a throw away line in the ask Simpson fluff piece this week where he was asked what he said to Oscar Allen when he came off after kicking a goal and his response included if he didn’t come off the s&c team would be upset…

Firstly your the coach, it’s your choice who comes off an on…

It made me wonder if our injuries are similar to what has been happening in cricket where they have taken over and limited how many overs or balls bowlers can bowl and the persistent injuries that have increased to bowlers like Richardson who come back and break down the second they are put under pressure.
