Hewett - mm raises real questions about the due diligence pre draft. Its after all isn't a new issue..
Worst case we split a pick for a plodder and a cripple.

Best case is we are in the long game and bringing together/developing to be at our best of later seasons.

I am on the long train and minor issues haven't changed our trajectory at all.

Oscar Allen and Flynn Rider and Hewett won't be back this season, put a fork in em, they're done, and if they try to bring em back in this year they'll do permanent damage and won't see em again.
Where’d you get your medical degree?

You just don’t learn do you? What’s the permanent damage regarding Hewett’s already chronic condition you’re referring to? Which studies or even anecdotes following return to AFL after distal hamstring avulsion reattachment are you basing Flynn’s claim on? What’s Oscar’s diagnosis? Before you say “bone stress”, that is not a diagnosis. If you’re going to reference published articles from your “studies” again, make sure you get the correct part of the body this time.

Hewitt > Hewett.

We should have drafted the other one.

Jokes - I’m confident he’ll come back fitter and stronger. Gotta be patient with the young guns.

Yeah think Hewett makes room for MSD

Damn I knew they were removing a bone but downgrading form big to mid is a real tough pill to swallow.

Clubs don’t do medicals on draftees, the AFL does.

"Oscar’s had a really good pre-season. He had a bit of knee soreness last week, so we took the opportunity to rest him and we expect him to train next week and be ready for round one,” High Performance Manager Mathew Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.

... with dynamic second-year player Elijah Hewett making strong progress from sesamoiditis. Elijah is back out there running. He’s feeling really good. He’s pain-free for the first time in about two years, which is great news,” Inness said.

A shiny gold star for the first journalist who sits down next to a West Coast executive and asks them the really really obvious question arising from the above.

Why does the club keep clearing people to play or train only for it to be made abundantly clear a few days or weeks later they were not remotely right to play or train?
its like the club is trying to placate the rabid fans or something...

GWS drafted a guy at pick 3 just a couple years ago with the same issue, and they knew about it. I wouldnt stress

Due diligence goes well beyond the medical process.

The exact same thing happened to Callaghan.

From memory, there was no talk of foot injury with Callaghan pre daft and it was discovered when he joined the club, and that had been dealing with soreness in his draft year.

Do you think 17 year old boys are confessing all the sins and tweaks to people around which may harm their chances of getting drafted?

The way the system is designed disincentivises complete transparency.

Given talk of clubs like Essendon and St Kilda wanting to trade up for Hewett late in the first round, my guess is they didn’t know either. So our due diligence is no worse than theirs.

It’s a case of Hewett being a naughty boy, but not a big deal in the scheme of things. It’s hardly a cardinal sin.

We get it sorted, educate him about the need to be open and transparent about his body and any niggles and move on.

Regarding Hewett, I dont understand how removing one of the bones from his feet is going to not cause issues. Wont it just stress the other bone left in there? I mean I get for a regular person it would be ok but an athlete will be putting a lot of stress through their foot.
